We have centered our entire team around rules which supercell created. We've spent countless hundreds if not thousands of dollars to play within those rules and still win. This is what you call bait and switch.

I always hate it twhen SC says "soon". Does that mean a few days? A few weeks? A few months? Their definition of "soon" usually doesn't match up with the rest of the world.

All the tinkering with defense and offense values does is encourage players to find weaknesses in the algorithm used to build matches. Tighten the screws and exploiting the weaknesses yields minimal effect.

Most people rush because they don't know better or they want something like a AQ or GW. Once they realize that rushing makes farming harder...they start to max.
Basing weight on TH would break war. The majority of clashers are rushed. Would it feel any more fair to the rushed masses if their town hall is the same color but they still don't have a chance in heck? Now clans engineer by only allowing maxed bases in war in this scenario.

As Dorsan and Onyx have pointed out repeatedly over in the Clan Wars subforum, one of the biggest factors that produces mismatches is a small matchmaking pool. The smaller your pool of potential clans to match, the more likely it is that mismatches happen.

But differentiating the matchmaker into two pools, you are only exacerbating this problem. Ultimately, it would probably be better for SC to rip the bandaid off and nerf engineering such that it provides no advantage whatsoever, and then keep everyone in the same pool. If the engineers weren't getting an advantage by building odd, defensively-light bases, they would likely stop doing so (at least most of them, some would continue for the novelty) and you'd produce better matches overall because your pool would be bigger.

I'm glad to see Supercell starting to take this issue seriously, but I do fear it blowing up in their faces with even worse matchups before they finally reach the inevitable conclusion....

Just making sure you guys are aware that this results in two small matchmaking pools rather than one large one, thus making matching within each pool more difficult.

You guys have the numbers, maybe there are enough clans within each differentiated pool to get the job done, so I'll withhold judgement until I see it action, but tread lightly.
Long search times in our future I see, yes!

Now they are shrinking the pool again by creating a new item of differentiation, instead of simply correcting the existing items of differentiation. That is not likely to help.

As an example, our last war was a terrible mismatch against a highly engineered clan. We fielded a bell-curve breakdown of 3 TH9s, 9 TH8s and 3 TH7s. They had a TH11, 2 TH10s and 4 TH9s (the rest were TH8 and below). It took one hour to get that match. My rough understanding of the current system is that it searches for an opponent. If one is not found within 30 minutes, it widens the search by one standard deviation per criteria. It repeats that process every 30 minutes, gradually widening the parameters, until a match is found. If we assign numerical values to the level of engineering each clan had, ours might be a '1' and theirs might be an '8'. This implies that it would take 7 standard deviations for that clan to come into our search pool. This is therefore highly unlikely to happen. Well before that, it would find a 'similar play style' clan with 6 or fewer standard deviations in areas such as war weight and recent performance. We could still get a very bad mismatch, just not with an engineered clan. Instead we would get another maxer clan with a significant weight disparity. Is that better?
Wait! You mean to tell me after all this, we still will get mismatches?!? lol

    2. SC has decided to do nothing about lopsided bases - zero change. Result: Some anti engineers throw in towel, play less, buy less gems.
    3. Make a vague, non committal statement trying to make a better game, but give freedom without a defined start date. Everyone sticks around to see what is going to hsppen. People play as before, buy gems as before.

If anyone really thought 1 or 2 is probably, you have not been paying attention to SC's main goal. Hint, gem purchases.

Good luck Darian, non engy, and dless. Play nice.

This guy gets it. A very cynical view it is but that doesnt mean its not true. Politics as usual as it pertains to the war MM.

This will be really helpful to SC so they can continue to tweak the matchmaker - I would encourage all engineers to follow this example of self sacrifice for the greater good of the game.

[QUOTE=iBork;10685503]So you have been making tweaks and balances on the background with no announcement of what was changed? Why do you think that is not important to communicate? When you makes changes to the game, you announce it so we know what to expect. Why is MM not treated the same?

Because if Engineered knows what's been changed they will adapt asap. Better make it not public.

I am very cynical, but it's based on previous actions or lack of action from SC. This is not directed at Darian or anyone who feels this is making Clash better. I would wager Darian is relaying SC executive views not necessarily his own.

Our clan would happily wait longer for a fair match up than waste 47 hours on an unwinnable war. Maybe if search times increase then prep day could also be proportionally reduced.
