    A little transatlantic translation

My first idea for the title of this thread was 'The Great Hay Day Giveaway'. Quite rightly, someone suggested that this might sound as if it was being run by SuperCell, and came up with the idea of 'pay it forward'. Here in the land of fish and chips and rock music 'pay it forward' is not a phrase that has any meaning (I tried it out on family and friends). However I Googled the origin of the phrase and decided that it seemed very fitting.

So to everyone who's not from the United States, or is not quite sure what paying it forward entails, this is the explanation:

Pay it forward is a term for describing the beneficiary of a good deed repaying it to others instead of to the original benefactor. The concept is old, but the phrase may have been coined by Lily Hardy Hammond in her 1916 book In the Garden of Delight.

The concept was rediscovered as described by Benjamin Franklin, in a letter to Benjamin Webb dated April 25, 1784:

"I do not pretend to give such a deed; I only lend it to you. When you meet with another honest Man in similar Distress, you must pay me by lending this Sum to him; enjoining him to discharge the Debt by a like operation, when he shall be able, and shall meet with another opportunity. I hope it may thus go thro' many hands, before it meets with a Knave that will stop its Progress. This is a trick of mine for doing a deal of good with a little money."

Woozle, I had never known the origin, so thank you for that. I am in the USA, and "paying it forward" is a common concept here. I have seen many instances of paying it forward, such as once when I was in the drive through lane of Starbucks (a popular coffee shop here) the whole line was "paying it forward" or really backward, as someone started off by paying for the person's order behind them, then that person paid for the next behind him, etc. I wonder how long that lasted? But it *totally* made my day!

There is also a fabulous movie starring Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt called "Pay It Forward". It is a heartbreaker, but a life-changer as well.

I think any act of kindness is a gift. And paying it forward just keeps giving.

    Thank you for starting this!

I am a daily player who loves to help, tries to keep my shop filled with goodies for neighbors, and believes in my idea of fair play: help, be helped, and don't take advantage- meaning please don't be greedy. As a rule, I don't accept nor assist with sugar or dairy boats. Other than that, we're on. ~Wendy

I would love to pay this forward so right now I have 11 mallets, 4 deeds, 2 nails and 1 wood panel looking for a new home. These can be taken together or split.

No conditions for this as i know we probably all know someone who needs to expand
I'm surprised nobody took you up on this, so I would love the deeds...still opening up my fishing area.

Kik me when you have the time to do this transaction...I'm GMT-7, I believe (it's 2:25 p.m. here, if that helps).
