Signed. The clock tower is one of the coolest aspects of the builder base. It's also the best way to get your three attacks in for the day without wasting too much time away from your main village.

I can't believe this is the first time this joke has come up. That I've seen, anyway. Though if I remember the movie right, they were still asking for donations 60 years after the lightning struck. If it's gonna take 60 years to fix our clock tower, I won't waste my time

1. It appears to be a big benefit, but if you need to save 2 to 3 days of loot for a 2 day upgrade, what's the use of freeing up the lab for 0.5 to 1.5 days. The clock tower nerf feels more like the line SC is planning to draw is closer to pay-2-play rather than pay-to-win. If non-gemmers have to wait between 2 to 5 mins to play it's too much. We cant compare the main base like this as we can aim for loot and get loot even if we lose there (usually, unless in legends then you just take what you're given).

I get where you're coming from, but if you look closely to the cost/upgrade time of things we have so far (up to BH5) you can actually plan an almost non-stop upgrade even with the current rate of the clock tower. The wasted time due to insufficient resource can be reduced to minimal if you planned ahead well and are in a high enough league to make 360-400K a day.

Things that are relatively cheap but take longer to upgrade like Airbombs LV3, 4, Guard Post LV4, Crushre Lv4, for example are the key to your planning. These take 1–2 days to complete but only cost around 300K+. That combined with some elixir upgrade you need to do should give you enough time to collect resource needed to upgrade the next thing and keep your only builder busy most of the time.

Also keep in mind that even when your builder is idle (when you don't have enough resource for the next project yet), having the upgrades done faster mean you can spend more time battle for trophies with full capacity with less chance of losing due to an important defense (or your Battle Machine) being upgraded.

All that said, I understand your point, and with the coming up BH6, the upgrade time will likely go up to 3-4 days. That could be a real problem, but as it stands right now, I still think the current CT helps a lot.
