I'll second Pimmiepim's remarks. The quickest way to gauge how whether a player likes this update seems to be whether they are in a clan that is serious about non-arranged wars. Even the engineers feel like this didn't do much for them. For end game players who have been asking for a "new mode" solution to the clouds, it's a real slap in the face to tell them they need to start over with this new village.
Bringing a whole new village into the game caught everyone who hadn't been lucky enough to play the dev build completely by surprise. Certain people in the streaming/Youtube community didn't exactly help matters by making social media posts about saving up resources for the update when they were totally useless in the Builder Base. For war players & end game players frustrated with clouds, this update has been a PR disaster right up there with
"New Coke".
I see a lot of potential for the Builder Base to bring a lot of fun content to the game. But, as the leader of a semi-serious, war oriented clan, the fact that team play is irrelevant in the added content is a
major disappointment. There are a lot of us who wonder if this signals SuperCell's unwillingness or inability to address flaws with the matchmaker. There are a lot of us who wonder if this means SuperCell will be less focused on badly needed balancing in the main game, especially at TH10.
I also think SuperCell needs to look to a broader base of players for testing updates. I have to imagine there were few if any people who do random war spins that had any input. I have to wonder if any of the people testing the update were actually leaders of everyday clans. I'll keep my hopes up that we'll see more dialogue between the devs & the people who are most passionate about the game.
