Use to be that I would play, busting through shields, till I reached a goal. That goal was generally around 50% of the total volume I had at the time for resources. Example: 300k total volume elixer.. then I would play till I reached 150k (50%)

Sound good. Voted third option. Is is exactly what you have said. We don't want to see in 3 -6 weeks all maxed villages. Loot must be adjusted carefully. Though it's better win slightly more battles for throphys to get better reward with less amount of loot.
this way players won't feel that it is useless to batter villages only for cups.
so win/win situation on this. Progress in cups coupled with progress in gained loot.
if supercell manage to get there will be good. Right now it's seems too much loot for too less battles

I'm personally not a fan of playing more to achieve less mentality. Even when I played the max amount I couldn't invest that amount of time into games.
I'm the perfect target of COC games tho, I spend money on what I enjoy. I would like to feel that I could play whenever I wanted, even if I wanted to play a little bit at a time.
CR tried this restrictive technique at first and it didn't work until it was revised.
CoC tried this with the PBT with th11, and it didn't work until it was revised.
I don't understand why a third time was done like this, it baffles me, was no lessons learned form the last two?
I dislike this new game being labelled an update, but I forsee the fact that a lot of these changes most likely were unable to be added to COC's older code base, and sadly this was the most logical choice of delivery. In the long run we will all max it out and be assimilated regardless of our misgivings.
And on that note why a loot limit at all instead of a slower amount gained per? Everyone WILL max their bases faster then SC can update and put new content in regardless of a cap or not. its the nature of gaming.
