Meh I don't find them that much of an intrusion of privacy or anything. I guess I'm a bit of a snoopbecause I'm a very curious person. I have looked into a few peoples fishing books, it's not very interesting I admit but so what? it is there if you want to see someone's progress.
As for the avatars on shops, I like it...tells me if the item was really there and how many/what were there. It's interesting for me to also see which of my friends are selling stuff and what they are selling.
On the topic of raiding, everyone will do what they have to do. Personally I don't buy more than 2-3 items from friends shops at a time unless it is to help them clear wheat/eggs or help a low level make fast coins and hope they will also not raid my shop either so more people have a chance to get something. If someone is particularly annoying and constantly buys everything I simply unfriend them. That said, I believe newspaper shops are fair game. I feel if you advertise, you want to get rid of them asap so I do buy what I see.

I have mixed feeling about the buyers' avatars in the shops. For me the ideal would be if they showed up but were grayed out instead of in color. Then the items for sale would stand out.
I believe they have a no naming/shaming policy in the forum. Stating that a farm named FIDO, which she found memorable, beat her to the planks, isn't naming or shaming, she's stating a fact in her game play experience. If she'd remarked some creep named FIDO stole the planks, it would be a different story altogether.
