I think once I finally get all the pets and bite off a good chuck of my fishing book I'll no longer have a crazy demand for mining tools and rights. But right now I'm crazy for them, much more than Silo upgrades. Almost as much as barn ones!

I am not really working on my fishing book but a full per collection helps for sure! I have all pets except one horse because it required buying an extra stable just for the last one. I might get it now with the extra space.

Silo upgrades I have stopped a long time ago but recently slowly picked up again with so many new crops and fruits. As for barn upgrades the hunt for BEM won't be stopping for a long long time lol.

I opted out from derby this week and did whatever I could to avoid using saws. I'm up 4 saws now to 64. And I have 20 more axes (which I sold). We certainly don't need 3 times more saws, all I'm concerned about is that the axe drop rate adjusted with the honey bushes but I've not seen any changes in saw drops with new trees. And let's not forget that some new products need old trees too - e.g. Banana split is 3 cherries. Orange and peach ice cream ask for 2 fruit instead of 1 for cherry popsicle. (And townies do love those!)

Certainly I can somehow manage, just like I did for years but seems like the disbalance might be creeping up.

I have to confess that more saws are dropping now that I sent Tom for about 4 batches and my saw numbers are up near the top of my barn inventory. How could I have forgotten that if I let the number get low, fewer drop!

Of course it also depends on barn space and size.

A long time ago I set that minimum at 50 saws. Nowadays I'm always hovering between 100-200 saws. Sometimes I dip low around the 100 when I have lots of different trees which need sawing but that ok because I will have several rotations of harvesting before I need saws again.

A few things which can help to manage saws is to buy tree fruits when you find them so it saves a few harvests. Keep production of things that require tree fruits a bit low key and of course buy products which require tree fruits. Of course some are harder to find then others however apple pies are a little easier to find then Apple jam so buy the pie and make the jam for example. Same with other products. I don't look at products and see what they are I see what goes into making them. For example when buying a veggie bagel I buy olive oil or when I buy feta salad I buy 2 goat cheese etc.
Excellent Advice could not have said it better. I am a crazy chopper weekly chopping around 700 trees to 300 bushes. Many find buying my fruit sales beneficial for them and give me saws and axes to save on them chopping. Its a win\win for me. Plus it helps my hood for when those beloved help task show on derby task boards.

I concur I am getting more saws than axes lately from farming, hence now I am able to chop more trees more often, Happily and Thankfully.

Yes yes yes! Oh my goodness what has happened to the saw factory?

I didn't say anything in the beginning because I had a lot of dead trees left over from growing olives for the recent Visitor Event. I farm a lot and usually get both saws and axes aplenty. So I expected to be able to clear those dead trees quickly enough.

Have hired Tom strictly for saws for a day and even after clearing all my dead trees and keeping extra saws, they're still not coming.
    Axes 201
    Saws 16

I even offered to trade my axes for saws 2:1 in the trading thread but it seemed no one wanted them.
Im planting and harvesting coffee bushes and berry bushes like a fiend and selling coffee beans in my shop trying to use all these axes.

But i expect its just temporary and wouldnt ask SC to tweak axe or saw rates. I think these things just happen and next month it might be something different.

Of course shortly after a new update which introduces fruit trees and a bunch of products which uses them we pretty much plant a bunch of new trees and harvest them each time as soon as they're ready. Often we even plant more then we will eventually need because production of those new products goes into overdrive. Every machine which has new products will get loaded up fully and it takes quite a while to catch up with stuff like the new jams. The ice cream maker is churning new ice creams, the juice maker is pressing new juices, the smoothie maker is mixing new smoothies and so on... Production of existing items we have in stock comes to a halt for a while. In short the race to stocking up on new products is on!

Which also means the pressure on saws is on overdrive. We harvest way more then usual for a while. After some time the production drops slowly. I now harvest the new trees less frequently then in the beginning and find a new balance in mixing the new and existing products into a new production routine. It is surviving that initial pressure which is the tricky part.

At the end of the day however you usually serve an X amount of townies in an average week and they ask for Y amount of product which asks for Z amount of saws. When they have more to choose from their requests will also spread over more different products. So instead of a cherry Popsicle they might now ask for a peach ice cream. (By the way Cherry popsicle needs 1 cherry juice which needs 2 cherries). Therefore the Z (amount of saws) doesn't change as much as it seems.
I'm sure there is some sort of complicated maths problem in there.

Haha when you're playing a long time without really looking at the numbers or worrying about them that info somehow gets lost somewhere way back in ones mind. I've never had solid proof that it actually works like this however for me it feels like it does so I'll stick to that game plan. It's worked for a long time.

I do have to say that I play the town regularly. Not like crazy serving every townie doing every pick up as soon as possible but I play the town daily. They help with getting gifts like saws and axes as well.

Thank you! It sounds like you sure worked out a good balance on collaboration with your hood and whatever works is more then fine or course. We have a hoodie too who has a forest and we always help her with saws and axes. She is always producing premium stuff and goodies and sells those back to the hood on her frequent sales and it works for all of us.

    Sparkly,
(the post was already getting long so I didn't quote) it sounds like the number of 16 saws you have is still quite low for your level and therefore they aren't dropping as often yet. I'm a little over 200 saws right now and they're dropping like flies on my farm. Axes and saws are pretty much always my 2 top items in my barn. I'm currently in the high end of my spectrum of saws but I need to chop about 50 trees soon as they're on their last harvest.

Hopefully you get a free Tom booster soon and can quickly get some more saws. In the mean time I'm sure you know all the tips and tricks in the book to try and avoid saw usage like buy and store fruit where you can, use requests to get fruit and buy stuff which requires fruit to make and only make those you can't find etc.

    Thank you TerMinus Prime
