I think it is an exception to the rule as Alex was just being transparent about why the guy was banned. Does getting negative rep really matter? You basically get it from people who disagree with you. That is not what it is supposed to be for but that's how it works. You won't banned for having negative rep as long as your posts are legit and within the rules.
By explaining why he was banned IS discussing the ban. I am in no way having a go at Alex here as I said I think he is a great mod. And if Alex had something to do with it so what that is his job.
But it can't be one rule for one and another for another.

I think all that Alex has done is made sure that anybody that thinks he may have abused his powers is mistaken. The guy was banned after all soon after he and Alex where in the throws of a disagreement.

I am not disagreeing per se - Just explaining my understanding of why I think Alex posted what he did.

I agree with the first one, that people in power do often abuse said power. IMHO no matter the situation I don't believe that mods should be able to discuss bans regardless of the reasoning. And although I think bans should be allowed to be talked about the fact is they aren't.

Mods discuss their own actions all the time, explaining why they have closed threads, moved them, etc, etc. I see this as providing openness so that we users do not feel that we are under an autocratic dictatorship who take actions on a whim.
As mods operate as a collective (think Borg and interchangeable drones) a comment by one is a comment by all, thus mods could be said to comment on each others actions when they refer to their own.
Ok, I'll admit that that's a bit of a tortuous stretch there, I lost it somewhat....

I really doubt this makes it past the 60 day trial. I don't think it has been utilized as anticipated. Although they might make some tweaks to make it more usable how it was intended to be.
