Usually, when a forum have reputation system, I always find it is more useful when you are able to up/downvote messages (=easy to find your answer) instead of players. Everyone can make a mistake and if you have a high reputation, how likely is it that people will still believe in what you said and vice versa? I think on the long term it can be misleading.

That plus all the "revenge" you cant get from angry peep. :')

I think the forums have improved a bit since the start of the 60 day evaluation. Reputations should be built over a long period of time, not a week or a month. I have voted just once so far. Give it time. Over the long term, I suspect it will be a net positive, but I do understand those who have concerns.

I just think that this kind of reputation is very individual centred while voting on messaging is more community (as in it helps others) Why not do both? The reputation system is already based on messages, it could be great to add a counter see how many people approve/disaprove messages.

That's because all the negativity has moved to the comment box when you upvote/down vote reputation. I've been checking profiles of ppl who say they've been down voted & lets just say "crybaby" was probably the nicest comment that I seen on one persons profile.

I've noticed some posters are very skilled at dancing right up to the edge of an actionable insult but getting modded. Looks like they're figuring out the rep system.
It's always the closet engineers that are the most bitter. Trying to maintain a righteous pose while doing exactly what they claim to hate, lashing out at anyone that points out the obvious.

So far, it seems that the reputation system has heavily decreased threads that were repeatedly brought up. I hope that people don't go too far with the downvoting. If they can make a system where you have to upvote 1 or 2 times for every downvote, I think most of the system's abuse would be gone.

Hopefully people don't get carried away and start acting like Oprah Winfrey. Here's a rep point for you! And you! And you! Everyone gets a rep point!

People are more likely to keep doing things they get rewarded for and toxicity in this forum has been bad lately. Keep the rep points flowing.

If that is true then the system gets a massive thumbs up here.

One of the biggest issues I saw on the forum was the cycle of exhuming dead horses to beat, sure on the surface it made it look like the forum was lively, but it was about as useful as two people saying hi to each other for 2 hours straight for the purposes of not getting that awkward silence.

Basically this is a pointless system. The mods can turn a negative rep to neutral for whatever reason they want. Anytime you look at someone's profile and see a gray rep point just know that it was negative at some point.
