Farming is a trade off of trophies to gain resources quickly. It is a strategy, not exploit. Farmers do not change clans to hide themselves behind wimp shields so that they can never be attacked by the public.
Farmers do not get a big congratulation thread praising their skills or achievements, they know what they do does not represent great skills, but they are willing to sacrifice recognition for improving their bases with less or no gems (real money). In my eyes, they are just trying to get a discount on this game and the retail price of getting the base maxed is ridiculous. So what farmers do are perfectly acceptable.
It is a huge mistake to compare a strategy to get discounts and not claiming any achievements, to the wimp shield which tries to show off the player has the best skills in attack and defense in this game. After all, Yao is currently #1 on the top players chart, but do people agree that he is the most skilled among us? Not even close. The situation for him is laughable - he is like a wimp exposed in the spot light (real life example in current events: Lance Armstrong).
