Follow up on this case:
First, I would like to say this post doesn't give us enough information to be able to draw a conclusion. There is no information about the chat message (is it really offensive or innocent one) nor the timing between the report till the ban (otherwise how can you tell it's auto ban). It doesn't tell us what other things player has done that would lead to a report to Support via helpshift in the days prior to this test. Those who have contacted Support know that you don't get an anwser within hours every time, much longer during update time I believe.
I ask Staff to verify the case and we are positive that the player above is not banned due to the Report button in clan chat. It is for something else. No details per no name and shame rule.
Second, you are certainly wondering who to listen to right now. Nothing better than seeing for yourself. If you are going to test the feature, do it right, in a given context. Try with an account that has no problematic chat history, get reported at the same time by multiple people for an innocent message ("hello", "welcome", "thank you"...) then measure the time till any disciplinary action you can observe.
After this test, if anything happens then we can talk about abusive use of the report feature.
Until then, since X reports from clan chat do not generate any disciplinary action (mute, ban from chat, ban from game..). I fail to see how it can be abused to get someone in trouble regardless what the message is.
NB: please note that you posted an offensive mesage in clan chat while testing, it still can be screenshotted and report to Support via helpshift, leading to a disciplinary action. It is always the case.

This is a hated feature. Middle aged men clashing across the word hate it. We have spoke in clan chat as we see fit for years, and now we feel like we better watch out. How is this good for the game?!? Take it out! We don't like it. This is a problem. Bad business! Big brother! I'm giving supercell the rasberies and a full moon right now simultaneously. Picture that 👀
The old "inappropriate behavior" is an issue. It's somewhat vague and open to interpretation. Is cursing prohibited? Then my entire clan is in big trouble. No sense in worrying about this until its a problem, but this is why the customer base is losing trust with SC. Another "hidden" update.
lol. you're being reported by your own clanmates. in other words, you have no one to blame but yourselves.

Sure, get a whole bunch of hoppers to report someone for doing absolutely nothing. Good luck with that. As a moderator has already confirmed, there is no "auto ban" function in place. So no need to get your undies twisted. Don't say/do dumb things and you won't get into any trouble... just like this forum tbh.
It does change things for the players and it is quite different. Here is the process to report something to support:
1. Screenshot offense
2. Press settings
3. Click help and support
4. Hit contact us (after reviewing catalegories and realizing the stupid button needed is not in categories)
5. Click photo icon
6. Choose photo
7. Type message
8. Press send
New process:
1. Click on chat
2. Report
Very different in my opinion. Whether the discipline is automatic or needs review by an actual person matters not. If we can't speak freely in clan chat then this game lost a great amount of its charm.

People are under the wrong impression if they think that they "own" their clan. Guess what? you don't. heck, technically speaking you don't even own your account!
Since they want to market their game for under 18s (i think the minimum age for a coc account is 12?), SC is required by law/good governance to provide and take reasonable measures to provide a "safe place" for children (people under 18) to play.
So really, not much going on here. Just SC doing its job.
