Lightbulb Getting 3 stars on TH11 Bases (Post Miner Apocalypse)

Recently, there has been a lot of chatter over the forums and other outlets about how difficult it is to obtain a 3 star at Town Hall 11. Ever since miners were nerfed into the ground, there have been far fewer three stars than what we had become accustomed to. However, we need not despair or give up or flail our arms in frustration because 3 stars at Town Hall 11 are still possible and it doesnít take a freak accident to get one.

In the below video there are two war attacks shown using two different bowler combinations. Make no mistake Ė if there is one unit with which you will get 3 stars, it is the bowler. You might argue that this sounds boring and that you donít want to mass spam bowlers on every single attack. But it doesnít have to be like that. You can use bowlers with several different types of troop to get your three stars in different ways. Before we talk strategy Ė watch the below video showing two recent three star attacks on high level Town Hall 11s.

Letís take a close look at the two attacks and how to go about using them. Before we do though itís worth mentioning that this isnít the only way to use bowlers. You can use them with healers, miners, witches, Valkyries, wizards and other such units in different ways. The most common way and arguably the safest and strongest is the Bowler Healer combo.

    Bowler Healer Combo:

This typically is comprised of around 30 bowlers and 6-8 healers. The tactics here are to use your bowlers on two adjacent corners of the map with 3 or 4 healers behind each group. Take down the outer defences and buildings with this and clear and very straight forward path into the middle of the map. Youíll be using a rage, a jump and a freeze to ensure that this is done with relative ease. Once the corners are cleared, drop the rest of the bowlers either behind a golem or behind a few giants Ė also drop your heroes with them. There is also the possibility to have a couple of other healers at this stage to help keep the bowlers up.

The beauty of this attack is that the bowlers will move into the centre and under rage grab 2 stars extremely quickly. From there, usually several or most of them will die but youíre left with a whole load of healers which will then help keep your heroes awake helping you get that all important 3 star.

Itís not a massively difficult attack this and the first clip in the above video illustrates perfectly how to best go about achieving it successfully.

    Bowler Witch Combo:

This is a slightly more unusual combination but one that is a little bit more fun to use or at least I think so as I have a soft spot for witches. In the recent updates, there has been very little room for witches at the top end of the game which is a shame as they are a skilful unit to try and use effectively.

This attack is similar to the above except you donít waste too many bowlers on the corners as you are likely to lose them. The trick here is to get the skeletons from the witches tanking most of the blows and keeping the bowlers alive. Itís advisable in this situation to have some giants or a golem to protect the bowlers initially and then the skeletons should do their job.

    Conclusion:

Thereís no doubt about it Ė it is difficult to get 3 stars at the moment and there is a lot of talk that this might change within the December update, providing there is one. But it is by no means impossible and nobody should have the mind-set that it is impossible to get 3 stars. Keep at it, try different things if something specific isnít working for you and make sure you pick suitable bases depending upon your style of attack.

Those triples were taking advantage of rather horrendous base design. Can't say that video convinced me TH11 isn't still in shambles as far as what I consider offense/defense balance in war.

This belongs in Attacking Strategies. Nonetheless still a good strategy and great guideline!

The first base is actually quite unique and a "trap" base, by no means bad. The second base is very standard admittedly but I wanted to show witches and bowlers being used as an example.

Probably right - but this is the forum everyone seems to post they can't get 3 stars in so thought it would be more useful here. Cheers

Hey Chucky, I've been using the bowler/healer strat to work my way up to legend league. Pretty much as you described, but I take 4 rage and one jump and forego the freeze spell. Reason for me being that, depending on base style, if your troops do split and go around and 'run the ring' of an island base, I find the rage can get them around quicker to give them a chance to hit the middle without running out of time.

No other attack has nearly as good of a success ratio to carry as a utility pushing army right now. The bowler witch could certainly work in some scenarios, but it is more base dependent and more de intensive. I've been breaking even spending about 4400 de per raid.

It's also worth a note that I'm running 30/35/15 heroes and still having success. Usually 2 stars but some 1's and yes some 3's sprinkled in!
    Disclaimer to the above post:
When offered the 'Game Specialist' title, I misread and thought it said 'Special Game-ist'. Since mama always told me I was special, I figured it was a perfect fit and just signed right up. But I do like blue so I'll still try my best... if you were hoping for a better answer, you might have to wait for someone smarter to come along.

That sounds pretty good - do you often manage 3 stars? Impressive with those hero levels. Would be great to see some of your replays if you get a chance or I could come visit and see them?

    Cheers.

My current attack log has 2/10 with 100% I'm in the forum goat herd doing a 50 vs 50 war so space is a bit limited, but maybe I could record it for you, what kind of recording app could I use for my ipad? It would be nice to show too, for the many people out there that don't have max heroes!

Ah nice one - I use a programme called Airserver (I have windows) but I think it's a lot easier if you have a mac?
