I don't know why people are against the multiple clan chat tabs idea. This is a great function that can really improve the game. Some privacy goes a long way. If the clan leaders and elders are talking about which members are inactive/low donations or who to kick next it would be much better if discussed in a elder clan chat in comparison to the normal clan chat where everyone can see it. This idea does not only apply to kicking and demoting members but also in clan activities as well. If the clan leaders want to set up a event or push they can arrange a meeting where they get the opinions of all the clan elders to fine tune the idea before presenting it to the entire clan. Honestly the excuse that people will isolate the newer members is intangible, if you have a organized and loyal clan that will rarely happen. Supercell provides the tools and you choose what to do with them. If you choose to abuse the system then the clan suffers as a result. Also the idea of getting a external chatting application to compensate for the lack of this feature is absurd. Why go through all this trouble when something like this is obviously useful if its implemented IN the game itself. Supercell reads most if not all the threads posted in the forum. I am sure they have seen this one with the publicity its getting. They do listen to the community so if there is a feature that could be beneficial to the game they will consider it and possibly add it to the next update. Its good to state opinions so we can really weigh the pros and cons. That being said, I really don't see that many flaws with this idea in general.
