Immediatly this will be abused by the no lifers who can practice war opponents designs much like the cheat modes did... it promotes gameplay without any tangible results, thus stagnating players progress yet wasting their time.

Its nothing but a capitulation to cheat modes. It says, we can't beat them so we'll join them.

While I much liked the reduced cook time update, it also has the whiff of desperate measure about it and now this is further evidence in my book, that sc is reacting erratically to the drop in revenue.
Features like legal sandboxes however, will just alienate new players more.

I suspect most new downloads nowadays are from ppl making minis rather than genuine new players.

Ho-hum sorry but I cannot see the benefit of this idea.

Everyone needs to chill out a little, there are a lot of details about the upcoming update not yet released, and a lot of variables in the FC system coming that people haven't yet thought of.

Im on my phone now, but later tonight when I get on my computer, I'll make a thread highlighting some other points of view which will hopefully help people to see the other side of the coin.

Even then you may be right about the fallout but does that mean that the plus for this is massively outweighed by the negative without question? I don't know the answer yet I just know it is something worth at least trying before I decry it.

The problem Holps will not be the 'trying it out' period, or the reality of how much/often the sandboxing will be used in war. It's the perception. Any casual player who just doesn't have the time to sandbox is going to be demotivated from participation in wars, just because they fear they are not fighting on a level playing field, due purely to the time factor, that their opponents may (or may not) have put into the preparation of their attacks. This isn't studying a base for an hour, it's copying it and sandboxing it for potentially hours.
