The flexibility for members to move from one sister clan to another, safe in the knowledge that the standards of mature behaviour inside the clans remain the same, that we maintain our Viking culture in all clans and that the general rules and decision making processes are also the same. With different donation requirements in the clans members can shift clans safely depending on their personal circumstances and changes in playing style. Members can safely "sleep" in Riverbears, therefore being inactive for periods of time when they would not be able to meet the donations standards of Cavebears. Cavebears with its higher donation standards ensures members are kept constantly topped up with troops, enabling them to level up and achieve their game goals rapidly, some more active members from Riverbears can take advantage of this by moving to Cavebears in order to progress more rapidly in game.
Members know that whatever clan they are in certain standards will be applied. For example we will not tolerate swearing or immature behaviour. We will not tolerate leeches. Players will be safe from being kicked just because their trophy count is too low (quite common in some clans). Players know we encourage a lively social chat. Members know we have fostered an environment of fast donations with higher level troops being freely given to lower levelled players in an atmosphere of friendship and helpfulness. In addition helpful and knowledgeable advice is freely given to the benfit of all.
Socially as well, the clans enable to meet new people and forge new friendships, although sister clans each has a slightly different atmosphere which is most probably caused by the make up of its members. Although not all members enjoy shifting around, some do enjoy the new interactions brought about by "visiting" one of our sister clans.
However, the expansion of the clans has also brought about some problems.
In their attempts to help me establish the Icebears clan many elders from Riverbears and Cavebears have moved into Icebears for a period of time. Their help has been greatly appreciated and as a result Icebears has recruited some very high quality members, most of whom have now moved on into Cavebears and Riverbears, (as was the intention of Icebears as a feeder clan).
This has however resulted in the Cavebears and Riverbears being left "short staffed" on Elders, particularly the older ones who are the most familiar with our rules and culture. This has happened at the same time as newer recruits have been joining Riverbears and Cavebears, i.e exactly when those clans need the most experienced elders on hand to help screen and guide the new recruits into our rules and culture. As the famous KC99 so prophetically remarked, "Are we expanding too fast and what time is dinner?" Or maybe some words like that. I am sure dinner was mentioned at least once.
Secondly, the mechanics of using Icebears as a feeder clan has not worked as successfully as I had planned. In reflection establishing Icebears as a feeder clan was my mistake. Hindsight is a powerful ally, except it always turns up on the battlefield too late. How could Icebears develop a solid culture when the first thing that happened to good quality recruits was to shunt them off to another clan after a screening period? As the famous Karthi remarked "Culture is important, and what is for dessert?" Or words to that effect. I am pretty sure we had Chocolate creamed rice for dessert anyway. Icebears never developed a culture. And for myself and, I think, for the Elders, it was certainly less fun and more like hard work.
So I have decided to halt the advance of the Bear Empire for the meantime. We need to stablish and consolidate. Icebears is now on Ice. (lol). I will not be actively recruiting into that clan for a while. It will no longer act as a feeder clan. Icebears will not be disbanded, but it will remain essentially inactive for a while until we have things sorted out better at Riverbears and Cavebears.
What things need to be sorted?
Well first, one issue needs to faced. Attempts by a few members to run the clan by proxy. Lets be clear. If a member does not like the way the clans are run by the Guardians and Leaders then they can leave. They should not attempt to change our clans into their own version of what they think a clan should be by attempting to undermine the Guardians and Leaders. We have processes in our clans where change can be effected. Discussion in forum thread and community thread, proposals and votes. The rules of the clans were established to provide a democratic yet pragmatic means of allowing us to change and evolve. To have one or a few members attempt to hijack our clans for their own personal goals and views will not be tolerated. If anyone does not like our system, they are cordially invited to leave. If it becomes necessary, they will be invited to leave after their heads have been removed. We will, in that case, take their silence as consent.
Secondly, we need to address how the the new updates affects our donation rules. Already there is one discussion about changing the donation requirements in Cavebears to include wizards. This has not been resolved yet.
Thirdly, we need to address the whole concept of clan recruitment. Despite our best efforts good quality recruits still come almost painfully slowly. Leech, Matchstickx and others are exploring new ways of promoting our clans. I feel the magic they are working upon may prove more fruitful than endlessly promoting our forum threads
Fourthly, as has been suggested by Tanys, the importance of communication via an in-game messaging system, something that the legendary KC99 once suggested some while ago (and such was my noobishness I could not get it to work for me. He may also have suggested something about Panzers, invading, and Poland, but perhaps that was me).
Fifthly, the perfecting of our existing rules. There remains some work to be done in rewriting and clarifying our rules so that they can be easily understood and applied. For that purpose I wish to propose that this Cavebears thread be considered dead sometime in the near future. It may be locked at moderators request at my instigation. A new Cavebears thread can then be started and maintained by Jorg, uplifting parts of this old thread as copy pasta as she sees fit, and incorporating, editing and clarifying the new rules that have been added over time. This will give Jorg and Cavebear leadership much more control over the content, format and layout of the Cavebears recruitment thread.
These then are the issues I feel that the Bear Empire needs to get to grips with. Expansion of Icebears can wait until after these matters have been settled.
BY THE GODS!
HAIL!
HAIL THE GLORY THAT IS THE BEAR EMPIRE!
HAIL!
