After browsing as much as possible through this forum, I found similar concepts (dueling, sparring, etc...) but nothing that quite fit what I had in mind. If I missed it, my apologies.
Introduction
As much as we all enjoy the new troops, spells, defenses, etc... what I would like to see is a new game mode for those that enjoy competition. Clan Wars are fun, but limit us to doing two meaningful attacks every 48 hours. For those who want to jump into quick battles, the Battle Arena is where you can go to satisfy that urge.
Format
The battle arena will be essentially a faster mini-war. There are three options: 1v1, 2v2, and 5v5. The number of participants is intentionally small to encourage faster match making, since the whole concept is to have a faster version of competition other than raiding bases at your leisure. Some portions of the format will vary depending on which option you choose. In all attacks, the standard 1-3 star system will be used.
1v1
- Each participant will have two designated bases (yes, two) that they will bring to war. These will be selected prior to looking for a match so that they cannot be changed during preparation time.
- 30 minute preparation time, in which user has the ability to select clan castle troops. Again, to encourage faster game play, these units are simply selected without training time or cost, and are then placed in their castle based on that user's troop levels.
- The battle timer is set to one hour. Again, the purpose of this is for a quick battle with another user, and as a result these are intended to be short.
- When building an army, the user selects his troops and spells, again with no training time or cost.
- Each user has two attacks, meaning that they will have one chance to attack each of the opponents bases. Standard scoring and tie breakers currently used in war will apply here.
2v2
- Teams are created by joining up with a teammate in your clan.
- Each participant will have two bases that they will bring to the battle. Again, these are selected prior to searching for a match.
- 30 minute preparation time, same as for the 1v1 battles.
- Battle timer is set to two hours.
- When building an army, the user selects his troops and spells, no training time or cost.
- Each participant has two attacks. There will be 4 bases on each side since each person will be bringing two defensive layouts to the battle.
5v5
- Teams are creating by joining up with other teammates in your clan.
- Each participant will have one base that they bring to the battle. These are selected prior to searching for a match.
- 30 minute preparation time (or 1 hour). Clan castle troops again are selected by the defender so that they aren't able to obtain higher level troops from a clan mate, but rather they must select from the troop levels that they have upgraded.
- Battle timer is set to 4 hours
- Similar to the other battle types, the user selects his troops and spells for his army, no training time or cost
- Each participant has two attacks.
Since none of these battles will cost any resources, the rewards for winning would be minimal. The whole idea for this is to not promote another method for obtaining resources, but rather a new game mode where clashers can compete with each other.
Some may ask, if this doesn't have any monetary value involved for Supercell (with no gemming, resources spent, etc..) why would they spend so much effort creating such a massive game mode? The answer is simple: games are only enjoyable for people for a certain amount of time. As is such with all video games, whether it be mobile, PC or console, it's inevitable that at some point a gamer will move on to the next, new flashy game that comes out if they begin to tire of their current game(s). This mode will offer an immense amount of content for each user since they are able to compete in a new way as many (or as few) times as they would like. It's a new way for clashers to show off their capabilities with the troops they've spent such a long time upgrading.
This type of game mode also has a lot of things that could be expanded upon. Leaderboards and rankings could be implemented between clashers at each town hall level. This is easier to imagine with the 1v1 battles, where people at similar stages of the game could be shown on a leaderboard. They are only competing with others that are near their defensive/offensive strength, and thus there wouldn't be TH9's competing on a leaderboard with higher town halls.
Let me know if you have any thoughts or suggestions. This is mainly a rough draft for the ideas that I have, and if it's an idea that proves to be popular amongst the community, we could certainly edit some of the format if other suggestions prove to make more sense.
