Short, repeated searching seems to help

We don't let a war search go on for more than 5 minutes. The match ups seem to get worse the longer the search continues.

End the search, count to 5 and do it again. It can get tedious but at least the match ups are fairly close. We still get tough wars and easy wars.

Somehow, we get all the tough wars when I opt in. At least it seems that way.
I was there when Clash of Clans died.

    Walls are the culprit

Walls have more weight currently than any other defense. If you are a maxer type then you will pull the TH above you due to your walls, this is true for all TH levels. The cumulative affect is even more pronounced when an entire clan engineers themselves with low level walls relative to their other defenses. When such a clan matches with a maxer clan it is complete slaughter on the killing floor.

    Example:

A fully max TH9 weighs roughly the same as a defensively maxed TH10 with grape walls. Clearly the TH9's lava walls will do nothing to stop the TH10 from three staring them with ease. In return the TH9 would be very lucky to get 2 stars and will likely struggle with 1.

This issue is even more pronounced at TH10 to TH11 level. In terms of war weight there simply isn't much to distinguish between TH11 and TH10, especially if a player doesn't add the eagle artillery. Add walls into the mix and even with the eagle its very easy for a TH10 maxer to match with a TH11 (none rushed but with weaker walls). The warden doesnt have all that much weight, but he is a complete game changer in war offensively.

P.S. I was a mini-max TH9 when TH11 update hit (no xbows and missing a few morter and wiz towers but otherwise maxed def, leggo walls. When update hit I went to TH10 then skipped right over to TH11.

Zero regrets, I now have a lvl5 warden and still weigh in as a max TH9. We have been undefeated in war ever since. Even with my TH9 offense I can 2 star max TH10s now with ease, when my lab work catches up I will be three staring them with the same ease.

It's bad enough to get top player in opp being one TH higher (I can at least 1 or 2 star a th10), but to get a th11, when I'm only th9, sucks!!

    we do 10/10 wars...
    Current war opp: 1 th11 / 3 th8 / 3 th7 / 3 th6
    Us: 1 th9 / 1 th8 / 2 th7 / 6 th6

Yes, I'm a near maxed th9 (working on walls and heroes), and none of us are rushed, and we restart war search so it doesn't run too long. And yes he is a rushed th11. But still, he has grand warden and ITs and has built all buildings, for example has 3 xbows, but only lvl2. Might not seem like much, but those extra buildings, extra troop space and extra spells hurt! (not to mention the extra AD's for th6/7 which makes it tougher to attack opp lower, never mind attack higher TH).

Don't know how this is remotely fair. Definitely seems to be a war matchmaking problem to me.

edit: wow, just realized this is my first post! Been lurking since 2014 (as per left) but this is the first time I've been annoyed enough to actually vent

I am on your side, I think its totally unfair that walls have as much weight as they do, but until its fixed it is what it is. Adapting might mean that many former maxers need to re-consider rushing. Walls are a real liability these days given how much weight they have and the addition of the EQ spell and CC extra DE spell (you can literally use 4X EQ now for the same cost as a jump spell assuming you didn't need those DE spell slots for poison or haste).

I hear what you're saying. But it surely shouldn't cause a th9, even a fully maxed one (which I'm not), to be matched against a th11. If it was a maxed th10 (which we've had a few times) I'd shrug and say bad luck, better luck next time. But cmon. How do we go about beating them when the odds are stacked against us so significantly?

War mismatch against tougher opponents happen. And in some cases it goes in our favour. But this is the first time ever we've been matched with people TWO th's higher. Walls / dark spells should not cause that. And if they do, then I'm with OP that there is a problem with war mismatching.

Definitely broken in my book. TH11 is under weighted and walls seem to be over weighed.

We just lost an unwinnable war.

    They - 1 TH11, 6 TH9, 16 Xbows, 7 AQ
    Us - 1 TH10, 3 TH9, 5 Xbows, 4 AQ

My base below was not even in the war. Down from there it as still off with them having equal TH8's, but more TH7's than we did.

We lost by ONE star only because we were much better attackers. However, it wasn't a war we had a chance of winning from the start.

The ONLY thing that we had better than them were walls. They even overpowered us troop wise do to their TH11 matched with out TH10 and them having 3 more TH9's than we did.
    BRAND NEW TH10
    BK 27 / AQ 25
    No inferno's for now

They could solve all this by either making the deadly th level upgrades have a very high weight, or just bar matches once a person has all the new defenses and spell factory from a th upgrade.

The issue is infernos, ea, warden, xbow, and spell count. You can tell because EVERY engineered base, regardless of level, will have the new defenses and spells

You could think of it like, "how many point defenses would I trade for an inferno tower if I had to choose."

The benefits of a th10 are not "extra archer tower and an xbow" sure, they help, but the real killer is the IT. It's good enough on its own to force a 2 star even with th8 level everything else. An xbow can't really make you reevaluate your entire attack around it. An inferno can, and so can EA. Both defenses require their own strategy to deal with, and lower people don't have the troop count or spell count to deal with regular defenses AND IT's. It's one or the other.

We got super lucky and the moron TH10 in our current war had them both set to single (we have no th10s) so we walked out with a 97% 2 star. You can tell they expect to go against th9s by their trap locations and IT positions. That TH10 probably never goes against another 10. Oh, he sure had 240 troop count and 5 spells though. Odd how he found the time to only do the things that matter in a war, huh?

As long as walls stay heavy, wars are screwed. If they can't change wall weight, logically, the fix would be the spell factory and new defense weight. I'm sure heroes are low weight because gem spending, but christ... Every TH10 we go up against as a clan with No th10 has infernos, 5 giant bombs, and spell factory/camps with all defenses at th8 level. The better to attack and defend against lower TH levels. Shocking. We're still undefeated, but just once id like to look at a war when it pops and go "ok guys, looks like a good match, no pressure" as opposed to "ok, TH8s, hit 6 through 15...Top 3 th9s, hit 1 through 5, sorry you have to hit a th10 again nate. Maybe they will screw up their attacks."

To OP war mismatches suck and it can be discouraging especially if u try to do things fair and not try ♥♥♥♥♥ matchmaking system with .5 and defenseless bases.
We starting putting smaller ths t5-7 o get bigger wars more balance it's helped were winning most wars now but we still got hosed today cuz opponent has th9s th10s defenseless matched with our th5-6 and .5 th9s matched with th8s and add 3-1 th11s 😒.
Hopefully supercell can make adjustments but I don't know what they can with so many ppl putting .5s and defenseless bases, I mean we had to add smalls just to compete with these clans.
It's become so bad that manipulating matchmaking system is passing 3 star skills as the most important factor in war.

    yes, completely broken.

    Last war, we had 2 Th10, early/mid

They have 4 Th10s from mid/max to mid to early, and a rushed.

equal number of th9s and to

offset the 2 extra th10 for the opponents. we had a th4 and 7 at the bottom instead.

Glad I found this thread. Our last war in 10v10 we were 4xTH11 vs their 7xTH11....couldn't believe it. Of course we got slaughtered. Must have been the weighting of the walls.
