Mini/secondary farms

I know from reading you, many have mini/secondary farms. I have two older iPads, in retirement. Pondering if it'd be worthwhile to create a mini farm?

b/s sugar/dairy, how far would I need to level new farm?

i don't play on my phone as its reserved for biz only.

obviuosly, a mini farm will still need max production slots on dairy/sugar, or it'd be useless to set up minI farm.

i won't need feed mills, pies, sweaters, popcorn or any of the easy to find items.

I started my feeder farm last October, it's level 29. I do have food mills for the animals, and have the mine and fishing hole open. It's SO nice to have an extra dairy, I can't tell you! Plus the sugar mill. I have all the other machines available for this level as well--why not? Extra sweaters are handy. With an extra farm in your back pocket, you don't need Tom as much at all. The two farms swap BEMs and LEMs back and forth. It's like having your own private little neighborhood.

The extra dairy would be a perk! Nine more slots!
i know some use second farm for EM storage, I don't need storage. I never get my barn full,as it is.

TX RockingG, gonna get retired iPad out of its box & charge it up. I'd be happy to get only to sugar level!
Fill up dairy/sugar twice a day. Feed is so quickly produced, I never need any.

You work both your farms, obviuosly, if you have sweaters, pies, etc. I'm sure the extra EMs come in handy!

Even if you don't need extra of those products, I'd recommend building all available machines. :):thumbsup:

Quite a few times, I've heard of farms being banned for suspicious activity, because they didn't have some of the machines that were available at their level.

I have a level 11 farm that I never use. I just harvest all the wheat and sell the saws/axes/duct tape/etc. to my sister,(who is somehow GameCenter friends with that farm instead of my regular farm,)and then she sells them to me.

Well, I got lucky, one neighbor has kids that play (since Xmas), other neighbor is watching her grandson, he has no iPad! He's bored! Lol, guess what? I'm getting HD loaded & will jaunt across the field to deliver to bored child! He as two days, school holiday tomorrow. When I go to town, I'll get him a pizza!

I Appreciate your input! I'm over the moon with excitement at prospect of sugar/dairy increase. I never struggled until I mastered pasta kitchen. Ugh, I despise that machine.

heres the problem one has after appx 150ish, truck orders are impossible, for most part, to fulfill. I have 2/23 cookie orders & a 40 something juice order on my truck board. Now, what's the chance I can buy 46 cookies? Lol. So, I mainly rack xp by helping boat crates.

I think they used to, but now they don't, unless you have 2 farms on 1 device

Thanks Cowslips! Nice to know it's "legal." :) I used to play another farm game, and if a player was caught with more than one farm they were banned from the game. At one time I participated heavily in their forum, and players really were banned. But, of course, the chances of being caught were minimal.:cool:

SC could not prevent someone from having multiple farms. Many households have multiple people playing on their own device.
And, they prob love one person to have multiple b/c we have to purchase twice as many diamonds. Gotta buy the production slots.
As far as BOT farms, if they're concerned about a particular farm, they can easily determine if the farm owner is purchasing diamonds.

YES its great to know that multiple manual farms are allowed. I wasn't sure and was worried about talking about it in game but I have 3 other devices (2 of them are 4+ years old and can still play hay day) and I have farms on all three, so 4 all together lol. I mainly just use the other farms for storage but sometimes ill do some "turbo wheating" once in a while when I have an hour to spare. 4 farms is enough to go through a consistent cycle of wheating and checking the RSS for BEM, SEM etc... without waiting

1. main farm -> check RSS
2. secondary farm -> wheat, put wheat on sale, replant wheat, check RSS
3. tertiary farm -> wheat, put wheat on sale, replant wheat, check RSS
4. quaternary farm - wheat, put wheat on sale, replant wheat, check RSS
then repeat cause by this time my main farms RSS has refreshed and the other farms wheat has grown

This is astounding.
Unfortunately, I don't have time. But the raw ingredients would be nice. Once someone has all slots opened & machines mastered, it takes a lot of staples to keep machines running.

I have been having a bit of trouble lately with my iPad allowing me access to some items. When I first got it about 3 years ago, I was not one who played games and 16GB was plenty for how I planned to use it. Well, not long after, try some games for me and then add kids games for my grandkids and we were a little gaming group. I then find 1 game I really like and have been playing that as long as I've been playing HD, and maybe a few months longer. Unfortunately, the other game uses a lot of memory and over the past year or so, every time there is a game update with that game, I can't update it unless I remove some of the kids games to make room, and I've also deleted some of my other apps (e.g., banking which I only use on my phone anyway).

Fast forward to today and I am unable to open anything and I continually get the message the disk is too full. *Sigh*

I ordered an iPad Air 2 this morning with 64GB and seeing this thread, I wonder if maybe starting a brand new farm on the old iPad (since clearing it of the other game will provide all the space I would need to continue using it) may be sort of fun. Like you, Gertie, I would need to figure out when I might have time to tend it, though...

I'm level 49....lol im a relatively new farmer (started in April 2015) so no where close to your level, but I can definitely say it would be worth it to have a secondary farm for the extra items, especially the sugars and dairies. I am also growing a lot of apples and raspberries on one of my extra farms too which has been super helpful

My hubby has hayday on his pad, but has not played in a long time. So, I use his farm for cheeses, sugars, jams and juices, fish, and just unlocked the lobsters, and if I have extra metal bars, I sell to his farm to make jewelry.

KG my new iPad used to tell me all the time I was out of space and only Hayday was on it. What I did was hook it up to my Mac and open iTunes. Near the bottom of the proper screen is a bar that tells you how much of your device is apps, music, movies etc. I had a huge amount of something called OTHER. I though that was the operating system but I was wrong. After doing some research, I found out the only way to get rid of the other was to back everything up and then restore the iPad to factory settings. It's scary but it was the only thing that got rid of over 8gb of garbage. Then you can sync your device to restore your stuff. I don't have any problems any more. So I would check that out. And then maybe do a search for "how to remove other files from ipad. I had never synced this iPad and that may have been why it developed so much garbage I don't know. But my new iPad only has 16 GB on it and it was over half filled with the mysterious other files. Good luck

I have been thinking of starting a new farm on my old iPad but I'm not sure if I need to set up a new Facebook and/or Game Center account. I'm not really thinking about using it to supply my current farm, just starting again and maybe doing things differently now that I've learnt so much.

You would need a new gc or fab in order to keep both farms backed up.

the big thing for me, max production slots, one cannot fill all slots w/normal production. Think what 9 lasagna & 9 candy slots need. Just these two things!

I laugh when I see lower level players pleading for new products, lol. Next come the complaints items can't be found!
IMO the pasta kitchen is a debacle. Too much dairy required. Waaaaay too much.
Really had no trouble finding things & keeping things filled until lasagna arrived on the farm.
hopefully, any new products won't require dairy. Otherwise we all need 3-4 farms.

a lot of this could be alleviated with a butter churn. A small machine only for butter.

Back to the pasta kitchen, it will be tough for a lot of people to master. Simply b/c of product required to operate.

Interesting thread. I borrowed an iPad Air2 before Christmas to test it. I still have it. Naturally what I wanted to test most was whether it was too big to play HD comfortably. So, I started a new farm on the borrowed device. The new farm is now level 36, has everything except the town and, rather than feeding my main farm, I am finding the reverse happens - my main farm is supplementing the growth of my new farm. I am really enjoying growing the new farm, but it is soooo much harder than when I started my main farm 3 years ago. Even as an experienced farmer, I find it a struggle. If I wasn't constantly sending all my ems to the baby farm and filling it's boat orders for dairy and sugar products, it would be limping along, strangled by a too small barn and silo for the number of crops and products at that level, and I haven't even bought all the animals. My cubby mates have also been very generous.

So - since day one, my baby farm has actually been draining resources from my main farm, rather than feeding it. I hope one day soon it will be big enough to stand alone, but for now, I'm loving watching it grow.

Glade, do you wish to grow your new farm, abandoning your initial farm, at some point?

i will only go so far as dairy, purchase diamonds to get max sugar/dairy & I suppose synch Tom with my iPad/Tom!

i won't expand the barn or land.

later today, I'll go get my iPad from neighbor! Can't wait to see how far he is!

I'm doing it because although I live in Ireland my Apple ID is set up with a UK address and therefore using the UK store. I want to set up my new ID to use the Irish store so that I can get some apps that are only there. I'm going to set up a new user account on the computer too so that I can have two separate iTunes accounts. The only downside to this is that I will no longer have Apple Music on the second device unless I upgrade to a family account.

I guess not everyone has the same reasons for maintaining a second farm. Mine is a feeder farm, pure & simple. It supports my main farm, not the other way around. The exception is expansion parts. Land expansion of the feeder farm doesn't matter because it's not related to the goods produced. But, I used the main farm's expansion supplies to quickly open all the fishing spots on the feeder farm in order to get more fish.

As such, the boat dock and train platform have not been repaired. Trucks & visitors are ignored. The finished goods all go to the main farm where they're either used or sold for a profit.

Doing it this way (no town, boat, truck) means that leveling up is a slow process. But, the goods are my priority, not a high level feeder farm. It'll soon hit level 44, which means lobsters. :caticon:

I have bought diamonds on the feeder farm, but only use them for additional machine slots.

I just started a mini farm on my iPad that I got for Christmas so thanks for asking this! It is currently at level 32, waiting for 33 so I can start producing goat cheese! I have all the machines available to me at the moment and what I usually do is make dairy and sugars for my main farm and I also used Tom for the two free days to collect things like mining tools and produced goods. I let Tom linger a bit before I used him so I could level up and have more things available to ask him for, my goal was to wait until I could fetch diamond rings, but I couldn't resist any longer. :facepalm: I also collect SEMs and BEMs through wheating.

Edited to add- I have also done the derby on this baby farm and am now in the expert league, I have won 1st place each time, but it is rather time consuming and difficult to complete tasks with little resources, I have to sell back & forth to support it, but I have enjoyed the rewards, have gotten planks and other EMs. I also get movie tickets on this farm so that's fun, since my main farm never got that option. I am also expanding land and fishing areas just because LEMs are easy for me to find, and saving as many native trees and bushes since I nixed most of those on my main farm without knowing it would be a permanent thing. I am so jealous of those beautiful seasonal trees.

i don't want to work two farms, lol. Not enough hours in my day. If I can get high enough to make cream/sugar, that's cool. After purchasing slots, I like to keep my machines running. Very difficult to find enough sugar/dairy. It's nice on days we have no time or not inclined to play to have production continue.

No, Gertie. I originally thought the new farm was just a tester, and thought I would have to abandon it when I gave the Air 2 back, but now I have my own Air 2 (Thank you, Santa) so can now run two farms, as I can now run my memory hungry other game and my original farm on that and my new farm on my old Mini with a new Apple ID. Both are linked to GC, share my NH and some very good friends. It is now level 37 and can have a horse!

I love the farming experience, and the fun of having something to work towards, which my main farm no longer has at level 109. With the experience of my old farm to fall back on, I am avoiding past mistakes, and, by sending all axes and saws to the main farm as soon as I get them, have not cut down a single tree yet, though I will admit to blowing up a couple of impossible rocks. My goal is to see if I can bring my farm up to adulthood without losing a single native tree.

Like Karliez, this farm gets movie tickets, which my old farm never did. Like Karliez, it just participated in it's first derby, thanks to the glitch that opted farms in without their owner's knowledge. I didn't realize it was in the derby for a couple of days, but managed to do all 9 tasks AND 50 trucks for the event on both farms AND we won, so we are back in the Champion's League. It's just great to be absorbed by the challenge of moving through the levels again, as I was getting a bit bored on the main farm.

I was wondering: do you think it's the level that's the main issue or barn size? I can see my farm getting to 150 without having a barn that large and it seems to me that the game would sooner factor barn size in calculating order numbers, than mere level. What do you think?

...monster truck/boat orders or no, I would love to have a massive barn.

Thanks for providing this info, Tigg, but first, I don't have a MAC, so I'm sure everything would be different when hooking it up to my computer.

Second, I don't have anything, anywhere, that indicates OTHER, as far as I can see. It's simply a matter of all the memory being used up by the apps currently on the device.

I was thinking this morning about starting a new farm on my old tablet and realized that if I did that, since I would need to create a new GC ID, I then wouldn't be able to reload the kids games and be able to unlock the items I had previously purchased for them. So, I guess I won't start a 2nd farm.

I was thinking this morning about starting a new farm on my old tablet and realized that if I did that, since I would need to create a new GC ID, I then wouldn't be able to reload the kids games and be able to unlock the items I had previously purchased for them. So, I guess I won't start a 2nd farm.

You goof. You don't need a Mac. You can sync with a PC too. But if you don't see the OTHER files, then that won't help. However you can have a farm with a different Game Center ID and still use your primary Apple ID for the other games. My primary Apple ID is the one linked to my funds so I can buy songs for instance on my new IPad. But the new ID doesn't have any funds linked to it so I couldn't buy diamonds on my new farm if I wanted to. I tried to link it to a gift card but it doesn't like it unless I do it from my computer and I just never got around to it. It's really weird.

Lol, I feel like everyone already has a good mini/feeder farm!
And, I've had an extra iPad stored away!
upgraded to iPad Air recently leaving me with two stored iPads! They could have been in production!

Gosh. I can barely keep up with my one farm. I would have to start playing HD in class. Not that I'd be the only one. LOL.

You are a stronger person than I! I bought an iPad Air 2 on Saturday and started a new farm with the intention of not cutting down native trees. I am now at level 19 and have cut down about a third of the trees already! I have decided, however, that I will keep most of the native trees on expanded land - a structured farm on the original land and parks and such on new land.

I must admit it is fun having something to work towards and, although there is often little I can do on my new farm, I get excited at the prospect of new machines and products :)

For now, my new farm will primarily be a feeder farm as I want to get to level 100 on my main farm. After that, who knows?

So, I was outside feeding my horse, my neighbors grandson that's getting my feeder farm started is running up the lane towards my house. Lol. jammed. Full barn/silo/RSS. Been waiting for this to occur. I got him straightened out & back in biz. We were both flipping thru DD. How cool each has dif farms to peruse. Have you found this to be the case if you are on both?

I have been playing my farms side by side since yesterday. I was barely able to pry the iPad from my sister's hands on the first day as I was with her when I bought the new iPad :p

My sister introduced me to Hay Day and we have spent much time playing our games side by side when we visit each other. It is definitely fun to see different farms and playing styles in action. My sister said she likes seeing her farm from a visitor's perspective too :)

Your neighbour's grandson is lucky to have you to help. I know having my sister's help when I first started out was invaluable and, even though we play differently, I saw many things to avoid from the start.

I think seeing two dif DDs is the best part of dual farms!

Oh yes it starts out with just dairy and sugar.
And then it's--boy I could use more bacon.
And then it's another place to grow extra coffee.
Gotta make more jam too.
A place to grow strawberries and tomatoes and those long growing crops that take up crop space on your primary farm.
And pretty soon you're helping your feeder farm with truck orders so it can level up and get the sauce maker to make you soy sauce.

Most of us have multiple farms. You could be at 300 or 350 if you got another one sooner. the way Apple keeps coming out with new iPads everybody has more than one.

My other farm sometimes has a better dd than the larger farm. The levels make a huge difference. I would love to know:
1: how many players at any given time are seeing the same exact dd that I am
2: at what level does the paper "change"


I played on my iphone4 till level 90+ and had no idea there was a bigger dd.

Yes, I know you can sync the device(s) with a PC. I was just stating that since I don't have a MAC, your comments about what I would see at each stage of syncing wouldn't work for me as I'm guessing the computer screen would look different.

It really doesn't matter anyway...I already have a new iPad on the way, and today, the iPad cover arrived. :) The new tablet is due to arrive between this Thursday (1/21) and next Thursday (1/28)...please cross fingers with me that it arrives sooner rather than later. :D

I haven't been shopping much but have noticed more dairy, sugar, bems and sems in the lower level dd. Easier, generally, to find low level products that my higher level farm loves to hoard like pancakes, muffins, carrot cakes, loom goods etc. :)

Actually the interface is very similar. My husbands computer is right next to mine and I see his more than I do mine. He syncs all the time. But no matter. Congrats on getting a new one. You will like it better. My old one drives me batty. Have fun.

Due to weather conditions, school is cancelled. Therefore, I don't expect to get my old device back for several days. A snow event tonight & again Fri., certainly means no school until next week.
i can't wait to see how far my neighbor gets on new farm. Iirc, it goes fast. Been a long, long time!
Kids on other neighboring farm got iPad Air & play, they are already in 40s level.

Gertie you are so right. It is hectic and crazy and I don't do it much. The two iPad farms are set up the same so I don't have to hunt for the dairy or other machines, but I will find myself shopping on one farm and making or buying stuff I don't really need because I forgot I just did a produce or production task of the other. It gets crazy. I almost forgot I had Tom on the old farm today because I was doing Derby stuff on the new one. Still not sure why I still do it. Probably won't for long.

Do I need to hire Tom on my mini farm? I don't mind spending on diamonds, lol. We all have vices, right?
I'm wondering, do you have him on both?

My baby farm is only level 21 as I just started on Saturday. I haven't used the free Tom days yet but will when there is something worthwhile to purchase at a higher level. I play with Tom full time on my main farm and will definitely be using Tom on my baby farm down the track as I am all about easy farming lol

I used the free days of tom for cheese because some said that if you didn't use him soon, he disappeared . But since I don't have diamonds available I can't hire him on my new baby farm. I use them as soon as I get them to increase production slots. But I don't play it as much as my main farm because it's a teeny tiny phone. I used him on my old farm yesterday to get diamond rings and pillows, blankets. I also don't play that one as much either. It's old and slow. Kinda like me ;)

When you get Tom for free you don't have to use him right away, I let him idle there until I got to a higher level.

It took less time that continuing to answer the same questions all the time and then worrying if I forgot something and wishing the person who helped answer the last group of new folks would also chime in for the next group. I like to try to be consistent.

This thread has been silent for a while now and I am very interested to know how/if your 2nd farm is progressing and if you have reached conclusions on its usefulness. The feedback from a high-level player just starting a feeder farm could be very helpful.

For me, I find the helper farm very helpfull, but I think you need to play them as their own farms for maybe six months for them to be truly useful.

This gives them the ability to provide all of the hard to make items you freiquently need for the main farm, these machines and storage sizes don't come till around level 70. I also find that it is hard to resist playing them as their own game as I can't resist doing the towns for expansion goodies.

I had originally decided not to bother with changing the GC ID on my old iPad so I could start a new farm on that device, since I wanted to be able to reload my grandkids games that I had previously loaded on that device.

I'm pretty sure I am correct in that if I use the same GC ID as I have with my current farm and load the game back onto the old device, when it asks if I wish to keep the new farm or load the old farm, if I were to choose the new farm, I might lose my current farm on my new device when I return to my new device to play?

That is my understanding KG. I looked at a new GC ID on my new phone but decided against it as I wanted to keep my word games the same. I did ask Apple and was told I could lose the farm if I tried to open a new one with the same ID.

If it's an iSO device, you could have backed up to the iCloud and transferred all of your games onto the new device by cloning your old device from the cloud. You could then reset to factory specs and start a new ID. However, some games won't transfer that way and require messy stuff to get them onto your new device, so beware.

This would have been perfect...put everything on the new device and begin completely over with the old device. However, I decided I didn't want the grandkids using my new device and figured it would be easier to allow them to continue to have access on the old device, essentially making it "theirs". Since all the games I had gotten for them had in-app purchases to unlock further items and give them full use of the games (man, those app developers know how to get to a Mom's/Grandma's heart...and purse strings), I didn't want to lose the ability to reload them and restore the previous purchases.

Probably for the best...I would then have needed to find the time to work a second farm! ;)

For sure, those second farms are hard work and time consuming. You get sucked in, just like you did in the beginning on your main farm, and there's that added thing about not wanting to make the same mistakes and everything being soooo much harder now, what with all the new machines and crops all jammed into the same levels, not to mention the pets! Just crazy!

And the the transfer thing can be a bother, which is why I'm currently carrying around 2 Air 2's and a Mini. I will give back the second Air 2 soon, but everything just looks so good on it and so I'm procrastinating putting my new farm on t he Mini. First World problems abound!

I have just started a second farm, just to see what it's like now that I know so much more. I'm now using my first farm to support the new one! One thing that is much harder is finding plants to water to get gift vouchers. I wasn't going to get the river boat but as you say, I got sucked in and got it. I'm thinking of deleting the new farm, it's just so much extra work, not the fun that I thought it would be.
