Essentially, you are spending money to have fun. Doesn't really matter where as long as it's legal.

I know exactly what I've spent. Early on I spent $50 so I could get 5 builders right away because in games like this you need them early to make fast progress.

After that I spent $100 to gem time though the early part of the Hero grind of TH9 so that I'm not sitting out of war for 3 or 4 months with a hero down.

Beyond that I don' think I'll buy more. $150 for 18 months of entertainment. That $8 per month for a game, pretty good value for the money considering in that time a console game can reboot itself for 3x $70 and occupy me for 2 months tops!

100% agree with OP. Didn't mind spending cash when it was my choice...force me to buy gems and you can go delicately touch yourself

I'll admit, I'm a gem buyer. Rather, I was. I'd buy a pack and use them to free up a builder if I get enough loot for a new upgrade and get him going. (Bday money, gifts, xmas, and cash of my own) I had always justified it as using my coffee money for the week to buy the gems so no big deal, but the total was eye opening. When I asked several other clan mates to do the same they had the same eye opening experience as I did lol.

The backfire
Now that the ugly truth is out we all came to the same conclusion that buying gems was done with. No more sinking money into the game. This isn't a negative rant or threat, just a rude awakening. Had we seen a game on the app store with the price that we paid we never would have bought it. SC had a good thing going when we were happily spending and along for the ride and not thinking twice. Now a lot of players have had the time and drive to really look into things and I think they are coming to the same understanding. Just how much we've given to the game.

Anyone else had a similar experience? Don't get my wrong, I'm not quitting or giving up that the game will get fixed (fingers crossed) I'm actually relieved the update did what it did. Snapped my clan mates and I out of our blissful gem buying fog.

TL : DR - Update made myself and fellow clan mates recount what we've invested in the game. Thinking it wasn't much we checked our purchase history for fun to see how close we were and got a rude awakening and just how much we had spent over time.:facepalm: Have you checked your history recently?

Yes, I believe you go to your iTunes purchase history and it should be in there under app purchases. Not totally sure though, I'm on Android.

I have always maintained that my absolute highest gem usage was when loot was flowing and my storages were full and I didn't have any free builders for days. Dropping a few gems on boosting or troops is peanuts compared to what I spent in th9 and th10 (th10 was the worst by a mile, so much to upgrade and it all takes forever) completing building defences. I find now that between hero's, troops and spells, the build times are all over the map and when I boost I end up having barracks sit empty or hero's (typically my queen) waiting on spells. It makes boosting a poor value when using large armies and now that I'm down to 2-3 attacks per day (I ride all my shields) my gems are just not dropping anymore. I don't make enough loot to ever sit on it and with only a few upgrades before th11 I have enough builders not to spend gems.

I think for some players this update absolutely killed the need to buy gems. I know for me it definitely has. And riding 12 hour shields gives me plenty of time to donate golems or hounds and still have a ton of time to build them unboosted before my next attack. The one thing I really dislike about the update is how it's killed the social aspect for me. Oh well.

Yes, best way is to go into iTunes on your pc and it will list all your purchases.

Yes this is me too, and totally agree. I don't use my gems anymore, not even on my collectors for the 1 gem boost. I'm almost a total max TH9, 29 lvl 9 walls left, and 9 more levels on BK. I used to Gem my heroes, now I wait 7 days, used to boost my heroes/barracks now I wait. I raid much more casually now and not sure about TH10, had credit on my iTunes to speed up some TH10 stuff, doubtful I'll do that now. Definitely took the steam out of me.

Part of the reason I don't boost my barracks is regen time on my heroes, at 88 minutes, I can do 2 to 3 raids per hour if I nerf them each time (which I don't always), not worth it.

Glad you've stop buying, OP! Personally, I never gemmed except in the beginning, October 2012, to get a 4th builder. $10 spent. Before the update in late November, I contemplated Buying $100 worth to gem my heroes upgrade time. My heroes were 38/37 at that time. Then I decided to wait for fear that the update will ruin things. Sure enough it did. My heroes are now 40/39. I'm glad I didn't purchase any gems and never will again.
