I started a clan in June and over the past 7 months it has reached level 6. All of a sudden today they changed to Sentinel Army. The previous name was CoC did 9/11. I understand how that might offend some people, but every other clan with 9/11 in it was not changed. Do you think supercell would change the back or at least change it to something else if I contacted them?

Yeah, think they have the right to change anything they want, especially if someone reports it. It's in user agreement. Be glad they didn't just disband it.
If you think it is fine to joke about 9/11, then consider yourself lucky the clan still exists and you weren't banned.
