What is "milking"?

I've been away from the forums since the December 2015 update.

I've just come back and read some posts that talk about "milking". Sorry for not knowing, but is that different from farming? My current impression is, milking seems to be very much like farming -- you milk to get loot -- yet some players seem to get "victimized" by milking. And most of the time, milking is mentioned whenever 29%ing is discussed (I know what 29%ing is but I'm not sure if it's in any way related to milking). Is milking a tactic worth learning? Or is milking something I have to protect my base against? (Especially that my elixir and DE storages are almost full to the brim right now, I'm maintaining the level of my storages in preparation to my entry to TH9, as I'm currently maxing the remaining 30% of my walls, having the rest of my defenses maxed, while maintaining my trophies here at Crystal 3.)

Milking means hitting any base that has available loot of 50-80k of each resources or so.

The 29% thing is weird.
Some people think it's a good idea to raid someone but stop at 29% so that base has no shield.
This means someone else can come in behind and raid it again. This continues till they get a shield or become empty.
I raid, and I get raided. All is fair.. However I always leave a shield after I've left. At least they can have a chance to build resources again.
If you build your base correctly and sit in a higher league you can avoid the 29% problem.

Milking is a stupid term some random invented and is taking great pleasure in it taking off as a CoC term. It was conceived less than two weeks ago.

Stop calling it milking. It's just farming. Just because cows are on a farm doesn't mean milking occurs!

Well farming implies that there are just a lot of resources on a base for you to take. There are a lot of cows on a farm for you to milk as well, thus we get farming.

Milking is well just that. Milk one cow then move on to the next one.

So essentially, milking is just raiding collectors primarily with goblins. And thus, it's a farming tactic. But apparently, there is emphasis in minimizing your troops since elixir is now a lot more expensive today than pre-update. Thus, the 29% tactic.

I would prefer not to be called 'some random' by someone who's posted as much on these forums as I have. And yes, It is with great pleasure and pride I've seen the term 'milking' take off on these forums...

I still stand by the fact milking is a new strategy. As stanleygsf pretty much summarized correctly, the update caused an elixr shortage and moreover a shield shortage. The dynamics of collector sniping with gobs/Barch/GiBarch/AQ have therefore changed dramatically, makling it a more effective and effficient farming strategy in absolute terms (more collectors continuously available and it is an elixr friendly strategy, which is what people are looking for post-update) and a more effective and efficient farming tactic in relative terms (relative to other efficient farming strategies that are left post update, i.e. none). It therefore deserved new attention post-update as a viable farming strategy, where it did not deserve that attention pre-update. Simple as that.

The haters can resist all they want, but collector sniping in silver in the way I described in my original thread and moreso as described by nerf in his guide is now called milking by many and milking is indeed what it is.

I've also suggested 'nibbling' as an alternative but that sadly didn't really take off...
