Gemmers are NOT important here

Apologies for the inflammatory headline but id rather like your attention!

Now that I have it let me explore why I wrote the title. It's because it is true.

Gemmers are a tiny percentage of the game. They bring in very little revenue comparably when compared to the masses with their £5 here and £10 here. Or at least they should if COC wants a sustainable economy.

So please please stop telling others to put up or shut up when they complain about this update of insanity.

It's great for those at the top only attacking occasionally or those already maxed but as people leave and retire there will be no new max th10/11s. It's just too difficult to get there now without spending big.

So take a moment, consider the problem in 'global' terms. Consider the terrifying impact that this update will have on the COC ecosystem.

I say this as a COC addict (yes addict - not 'casual player'), who has played for nearly three years and three months. Set up numerous clans in our 'family'. Eight of whom are still going strong and pre war changes would push up to the top 200 comfortably.

So no, this is not an attack on anyone, it's a plea for those who aren't directly affected (yet) to try and see the magnitude of the problem.

To understand that this is as it stands the begining of the end.

It's a shame, a great shame.

I'll explore the psychology of COC in a new post soon. But, for now it's late at night and early in 2016.

P.S. Love you gemmers - just an attack on an irritatingly vocal minority.

I'd have to disagree, I'd say about 10% or less of the player base brings in over 60% of the money this game makes

To be honest I'd actually be fascinated to find out the figures. I could well be wrong. It's just a very bad idea to base a FTP game on whales.

It isn't sustainable without the rest of the players coming through.

Lets be honest you have no clue who brings in more money.

You assume that everyone who likes the update is a gemmer. I haven't seen any outspoken gemmers in a while.

Reference to COC chat, not this place.

50-80% of revenue comes from the top 10% of gemmers. Its like that for ANY f2p game. You think someone who purchases 5$ worth of gems is worth one guy spending 100$ at the same time? You would need 20 people for every 1 of those who spend a lot. You have 10% of gemmers who spend maybe 1000 a month EACH on the game, and than you have the rest who spend 5$ a year or something.

Most of what I have read regarding these kinds of the games is that the small few make up most of the companies profit.

Atleast 80% of the revenue comes from 20% of the players, according to Zipf's law. Zipf's law can apply anywhere really, from language to company revenue. Research a little bit on this topic, it's very, very interesting. There's no hard proof of this in CoC, but it's very, very probable that the above statement is true.

Either way whales need casuals. Both for them to look down on and make their money feel worthwhile, and also so they feel they're spending money on a popular game.

Just wanted to provoke debate here for my first post.

But still stand by the ecosystem argument. Need to go into the human side in more detail another time.

There's a wide research about it and it's proven that whales bring much more revenue than small spenders.

Silly complainers with no data to back up their statements driven by their personal dissatisfaction with the new game. Supercell has the data and if they aren't listening to the complaints it's because the data says the money is still flowing and the quitters are outnumber by new members.

Lol. I attack under shield and the start again on three different th9 accounts. It's all good man. An addict? Lol again. You are correct. I am not an addict. But I love this game and the way the update has allowed me to cook armies and chill without being attacked.

Seems the the barchy barchy th snipers and bot farmers are the ones who are angry. And I suspect supercell will get along fine without them

Whether the premise is true or not, many top players have expressed their concerns already and the clouds in legends league.. There are clans called in the clouds and the #1 player recently called out the SC developers. Whether they changed their tune or not since yesterday, many other legend players on the forum express the same concerns. These are all the guys with level 20 GW's..

Another consideration to think about is that the casual players are a product themselves. Many might not think of themself as a product, but popularity and game appeal is a big reason why whales might spend big bucks to be able to show off their progress and be the big dog in a big ocean of people.. Whether that is status, social/helping casuals, interactions, or whatever..

I cant speak for legends but we had Titan players and high level champs before the update talking about quitting because the clouds went on forever. Maybe the update didn't fix that problem but it was a problem before the update. A big problem. And I guessing the update was supposed to fix that problem by bringing lots of new people up to th10 and th11 and making the high leagues appealing because of the loot bonus. Instead, all the players nose dived to silver which may have continued or worsened the problem in Titan and legend.

Sadly for for the people hiding in silver, I suspect the next fix will make looting in lower leagues very very unprofitable....thereby forcing more players to either play in the big leagues or quit. Won't affect me.. All my accounts are in higher leagues.

Their new bonus structure sucks. That's why my TH11 is picking bones in silver.

As it relates to clouds, we can always expect clouds to be worse at end of season when there is more stratification of trophy counts. When it resets we can expect it to get better. As some said, been an issue for a while and it's not as if SC isn't actively trying to cater to trophy pushers. They already made a pretty significant gameplay choice to help that by doing the reset.

True. Likely good intentions gone awry from incompetence. Reason why I say incompetence is because many players have already predicted and announced their departure to lower leagues simply from the utterance of the first sneak peeks. An understanding of the playerbase and incentive of game design already predicted how league shifts would occur toward the bottom.

I believe that recent concerns from high level players are that it is even worse now than before, where they are not able to get a match within 12 hour sessions. This is multiple people posting that in legend ranks and expressing the concerns from their clanmates who are also in legends as well. I don't have experience but I can direct you to a thread of such concerns.

Happy New years! ok also clash has revealed that 80 percent of their total income comes from the top players the little purchases are not much

I hate the update too but lets be fair
