new update is for the guy in the wookie suit
Imagine going to see Star Wars, as I'm sure many have. Whenever a new movie comes out there are a bunch of people who get in line days before the movie opens to be first in line. Many of them wear costumes. They are the die hards and if something comes out with the name Star Wars on it they will surely be there. They buy action figures and go to conventions. They LOVE Star Wars and they are very passionate about it.
Most people go to Star Wars to see a good movie. They like it. It's fun. But if they hear the new movie sucks, they'll just skip it and do something else. They might even complain that the new movie sucks and they are bummed at how Jar Jar Binks ruined it for them. The series does well enough but suffers drop-off.
Now, they reboot it and it's good again. They bring back the stuff that made it good in the first place. The guy who dressed like a wookie loves it, but so do the people who just want to see a good movie. Everyone goes to see and it breaks records all over the world.
It's the ability to attract the casual fan and the die-hard both that make something special.
Clash of clans was a special game. It was there for all. Anyone could barch, trophy push, war, snipe, dominate, hide or any other thing he wanted to do to keep his interest (and buy some gems, too). If he was patient, he took his time. If he wanted to advance quicker, he could spend as many gems or spend as much time as he wanted to do it. This did not ruin the game for anyone. If you wanted to switch playing styles, you could. It was fun, it was versatile. You could bring a massive army and CRUSH premie chumps. You could put together cheap armies and get a lot of bang-for-buck. You could invite friends and family to play. Not all of them were hard core, but they didn't have to be as hard core as you. They were in your clan and you had fun going into battle together.
Unfortunately, this has changed. This is only for the hard core now. Gone are the days of EVERYONE having fun. Only the select few will. They may love it more because it is "their game" now. None of the noobs are there to ruin it by playing it the "unintended" way. Friends and family lose interest and go elsewhere. People go onto forums to complain hoping Super Cell will acknowledge their displeasure and do something about it.
Now it's not so easy that anyone can play. Even though it really is. It's just not worthwhile for those who don't wear the wookie suit.
