DragLoon + EQ + Lightning Possible for TH8 due to new update
What is up forum??
Due to the new update, it is now possible for TH8s to have dark spells in war. This created a new opportunity for mass drag attacks at TH8.
Disclaimer
This strategy is very successful at TH8, but primarily for new TH8s. Once you upgrade lightning to lvl 5, you are able to use zapquake with your own lvl 1 earthquake (available to you at TH8 with a lvl 2 dark spell factory).
LVL 5 lightning spell costs 2 mil elixir, and dark spell factory costs 1.5 and 2.5 mil respectively. Therefore, for 6 mil elixir and in 10 days, you can have lvl5 lightning and your own lvl 1 EQ, making the following strategy not as useful
So why is this strategy useful?
Lvl 4 clan castle only takes 2 days and 1.8 million gold to upgrade. This is a prerequisite for any zapquake strategy available anyway, so this is not included in the day count.
Lvl 4 clan castle is all it takes for the following strategy (unless you are trying to take out LVL 6 AD), therefore allowing you to use it in two days. If you're anything like me, the first thing that you upgraded in your new TH8 was your lab and clan castle. Lab still takes four days, therefore, you may have a few wars before you can even think about upgrading spells. If you're anything like me, the first thing that you upgraded at TH8 was also dragons, which makes it so that you're not focusing on spells just yet right away.
This strategy requires:
- 2 days and 1.8 mil gold for lvl 4 cc
- 10 days and 4 mil elixir for lvl 2 dark spell factory (only if you want to take out lvl 6 ADs).
Regular zapquake requires:
- 2 days and 1.8 mil gold for lvl 4 cc
- 4 days and 1 mil elixir for laboratory
- 4 days and 2 mil elixir for lvl 5 lightning.
10 days and 4 mil elixir for lvl 2 dark spell factory.
ANYWHO:
By using:
1 lvl 4 EQ (from the clan castle).
and 2 lvl 4 lightning spells
1 of your own lvl 1 EQ (for lvl 6 AD)
You can take out up to lvl 6 AD. Often, it also allows you to have
1 RAGE SPELL!! In any zapquake strategy, you want this extra rage spell as a bonus, because now you do not need to use al three lightning to take care of one of the three extra air defense if you're attacking other TH8s.
This is very useful because now you only need to use two Lightning spells instead of three to take out any level of AD. This was possible before the update, but it required lvl 5 lightning spell, which may not be a priority for you. If not, read on!
CAUTION
- Very careful using this with less than lightning lvl 4. It will not take out lvl 6 AD otherwise.
- Use this only with lvl 4 EQ in the clan castle. You can do the math on your lightning spell + the EQ damage and take the risk if you want, but remember that lightning spell is not perfectly accurate. The higher the lvl of EQ + light that you use, the better.
WHAT I CAN GUARANTEE WILL BE DESTROYED WITH THE FOLLOWING.
Level 5 AD WILL BE DESTROYED WITH...
- LVL 4 EQ + 2 lvl 3 lightning spells.
- LVL 4 EQ + 2 LVL4 Lightning spells.
Level 6 AD:
- Lvl 4 EQ + 2 lvl 4 lightning spells + 1 OF YOUR OWN LVL 1 EQ.

Obviously this does not work with every base. Having Barbarian King also greatly improves your chances of getting 100% by taking out the outside structure before you coming in with the dragz (to funnel them properly).
2ND DISCLAIMER
This is a method of attacking that has worked countless times for me. If you're anything like me, you prioritized dragons as soon as you got to TH8, because you knew it'd be a while before you could attack with anything other than mass dragons.
This strategy works best with new TH8s. After you get lvl 5 lightning, this is no longer necessary, and you can use your extra cc spell as a haste, with the extra rage, and use 2 lvl 5 lightning + your own EQ to take out any lvl of AD in TH8.
I decided to upgrade the rest of my basic offense for looting before my spells, such as my barbs, archers, and giants. This was great for me because with relatively little effort, I can now get the loot that I need for the rest of the upgrades and make the game run smoother for me. As someone that has a full time job and is primarily a casual player, this makes the most sense and keeps the game fun and interesting for me :) I already have all five builders (by pushing up to Master's and getting achievements), and I can use gems to boost barracks. I have shown in one of my videos that I can often get around 10k DE and a bunch of resources by looting using this method. Having my looting strategies upgraded worked best for me :)
I hope this strategy is useful to you. If you have any comments or questions, please comment below. I'd love to talk about ways of using this strategy for new TH8s and if is useful to you. If not, leave a comment anyway, but do not expect me to respond as kindly to you if you're a pompous jerk or rude to random people on the internet roided up on that cyber testosterone.
Have a nice day! :)

Further, you will definitely want to upgrade your lightning to L5 and bring haste in CC, not another EQ.
I also disagree with how you are using your B King. He should be saved most the time for clean/distraction, not sacrificed. His added DPS is often critical against ~max TH8 bases.
I'm confused by this comment:
What exactly are you guaranteeing?
Hi Luna!
I am currently in the process of upgrading rage and then lightning, however, this strategy does work for relatively recent TH8s (like me). It made it easy for me to be able to 3 star relatively good TH8 bases in war, as I have shown many times in my videos (and from the many stars I have accumulated in war). This is a method that works for me, and for others who may attack similarly to me. I think that having an extra rage is MUCH more useful than having a haste. However, I do agree that once I am able to upgrade my EQ spell to lvl 2 and lightning to lvl 5, I will no longer need this strategy, and will then be requesting for a cc haste instead of an EQ spell, but for now, as I only have a lvl 1 EQ spell and a lvl 4 lightning, this strategy helps me have an extra rage. It works primarily for recent TH8s (which I can note in the section above.
I understand that you disagree with this strategy and with my use of the Barbarian King. However, when there are storages on the outside or structures than can throw off the funneling of your dragons, this can be an extremely effective strategy. Once one of the ADs is taken care of, and there are only two left, it can be easy to take out outside structures with Barb King, Funnel drag, then use rage. It will not work for every base, but it will work for most, as I have shown through my success with such attacks.
Lastly, your use of the term "ad nauseam" to describe a strategy that I choose to talk about is unnecessary, given that I am relatively new to this forum and I am talking about a strategy that I like to use and have had success with. If you do not agree with it, that is one thing, but please do not insult my methods of attacking (specially when they work, FOR ME, and it may also work for others in my position).
Thank you for your opinion!

Dude, Lunatic was being completely more than reasonable to you. I don't understand your distinction between low and high th8 or whatever. As a new th8, you instantly max your dragons then your lightning spells, and boom, you have a zapquake with a rage and haste which is either the second or third strongest th8 3 star attack. There is zero reason to hold off upgrading your lightning spells and cry about not being a "high enough th8" when it's a cheap, five day upgrade you'll do immediately unless you're so dang arrogant you somehow think this is better than having a haste because.. why? And most importantly, everyone has known here about zapquake forever, we really don't need someone new to the forums giving a guide with bad advice that's been discussed ad naseum and most rational members here have a solid understanding of the meta.
Sounds great Tyler,
Have an incredible day!
