Phantom/Scam challenges?

I've been getting loads of challenges regarding a new game (which I will leave un-named but lets say it involves matchsticks) and I'm starting to suspect that the senders of these challenges didn't actually send them.
Reason being is that I just received a challenge from someone whose farm name specifically states that they will delete challengers, I also have received challenges from people who never usually send them including a RL friend who stated she had never sent such a challenge, and that she had received a similar one from me that I had also never sent.

So apologies to anyone who receives such a challenge from myself, I can assure you that I don't challenge my HD friends unless I know 100% that they play that game and have challenged me on it in the past.
I was considering deleting some of the challengers in my friends list as the number of challenges I'vs had for this game was getting annoying but I've decided to hold an amnesty on deletion to be on the safe side - don't want to lose good neighbours over some dumb scam.

I've guessed this was happening too. I think the games are sending challenges on our behalf without approval. I even wrote a post about it a while ago (included below). I remember seeing a banner saying someone beat my challenge once, but I had never sent one out so how could they? That's when I knew for sure something was up. The game that said someone beat my challenge was not a matchstick game...

I did get a matchstick game challenge from you recently....but now I know better!

I keep getting challenges too - same game - I only play Hay Day online and all others game offline. So if anyone get challenges from my gc name - it was not I who send them. It would be very annoying getting deleted if you do not send them yourselves.

Hi Schmoo, I didn't get a challenge from you but I got 6 challenges from different friends, all from the game 'cross matchsticks' ( I will just name it here because I think they are scamming people)

I will say if someone gets a challenge from me with that game, I don't play it, never downloaded it, and don't plan to.

I've got 6 within the past 3 hours. Out of that 6, four was from the same person at the same time.

Been trying to find a way to report this spammy app to Apple but not getting anywhere :( I mean Apple must have approved it so they can remove it too surely?

I just got 2 matchstick challenges from new "friends" just added last week. If I had not of read this and been aware I would have deleted them. So thank you.

Huge, huge problem. I don't think Apple is aware of this. This is something Apple will never tolerate. I've tried everything even changing my profile pic to include a note telling those players to delete the game, but to no avail.

Turning off GC notification was the best solution. I still get challenges but at least now I'm not notified by that annoying alert/banner every single time.

Yeah I received challenges from a few games in the past day or so and figured they had to be wrong because the friends they came from have it listed in their signatures or in GC that they do not accept challenges.

I changed my sig to include I don't send challenges so Please don't delete me. :)

Uggggg, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this beef. Game Center -IMHO is the worst app ever. I also believe that some of the newer games send challenges with the player not realizing what is happening.

The last time I talked to an Apple rep and mentioned what I thought of GC, they asked me to give feedback about it here:

I never send challenges but have received loads lately, so now I know why. It's been really annoying me because I've not had any for ages. Get a life you sad scammers!

Thanks for posting this...I was contemplating deleting friends because my GC status states that I don't do challenges and thought my new friends had simply ignored it!

I too thank you for posting this. I have had three challenges in the last two days from this game. I was also contemplating deleting friends

Ever since I got my IPad, I have only ever received ONE challenge, and that was from a friend who plays HD... I am just totally not interested (is that a good or a bad thing...??? Lol) I ignore friend requests now, unless it's someone I have befriended on here (no offence) because I simply cannot keep up, and the missus is exactly the same... Guess we are lucky in that respect...?? Most of the stuff/info on the GC is ♥♥♥♥ anyway...!!! Thanks for the warning and advice though...

Thanks for the encouraging responses, I'm relieved to know that I'm not gonna lose a bunch of damn fine neighbours just because of some underhand marketing ploy. I noticed that on the app's page some bad reviews I had seen earlier had mysteriously disappeared, prolly because they were also claiming that the app was spamming challenges. I'm gonna make sure I avoid any app made by that company in the future, hopefully their dishonesty will backfire on them in the long run ;)

I've gotten a bunch of 'challenges' over the last month or so too. Just got one today but don't remember the game name as I decline them all.

I too do not send challenges- I have enough games to keep me occupied on FB lol.

Hi all-

It seems that if you download the game "Cross Stick" and launch it, it automatically sends a Game Center challenge to all your friends with out alerting you.

I want to apologize to anyone who got a GC challenge from me as I dont send them, as well as to alert others as to why they may be receiving challenges for this game. (i've gotten 8 in the last hour)

Well, I should have looked here first. Now I know better. I thought something was fishy, but I went ahead and unfriended a couple of people because of this. They were good neighbors and I can't remember there GC id's. :o PLEASE dear friends who I unfriended under these circumstances, please resend to my game center, if you read this. I am sorry.

Other games are doing this as well, such as Amazing Bubbles War Lite, Drench Plus, Campus Life. They are different developers so I can't figure out the connection. I received 9 challenges this morning... one for 1 game, 3 for another, and 5 for another all at the same time and from the same person.

I too have been receiving challenges for the matchsticks game. I don't play it and have never even looked at it. I don't send challenges and never will. I decline every single challenge that I receive.

Within 2 hours today I've received 56 challenges for 3 games from 3 people... one for Matchsticks from one person, 2 for drench from 2 other people, and 53 for Amazing Bubble Wars all from one of the people who sent one of the drenches. They came in groups of 3, 5, 8, 10, 13, and 14.

I searched for some way to shut this off within my iPhone settings to no avail.

You can turn notifications off for Game Center. I have this turned off, leaving only the numbers on the corner (Badge App Icon) to be a notification....

To do so:

settings,
notifications,
choose Game Center,

choose off for all of the following: Notification Center, Badge icon (I have this one on, but you can turn that off too, you wont have number on the icon corner) sounds off, (none) for talert style, view in lock screen off

Then you will only see these challenges if and when you go into the Game Center app on your own volition.....

Thank you Swisspie. I know about this but if I choose to turn off notifications to get rid of the challenges, I'll also be turning off notifications for friend requests. At least, I think I do. Can I choose to keep one while turning off the other?

I've received challenges from the same games mentioned here. I just decline. I don't do challenges either. Not sure how accurate GC is as have deleted players that it says haunt played in a long time. Sorry if I deleted anyone that actually still plays.

No:( the alerts are for the whole of the app...

you can choose to have sound turned off and just have badge icon on (little number on the corner) or have only the view in lock screen, or only the banner style of alert so it doesn't take up the whole screen.

Maybe play around with it and see which suits you best. But it's either both challenges and friend request or nothing.

Hi, I've been noticing that I've been getting challenges from people I know don't send them, and heard from a friend that I sent her a challenge which I know I didn't send. There are people who delete neighbours who send challenges, and if this is widespread I would like to add a bit to my FAQ asking people to check, if they can, that these challenges are genuine before deleting people. Oh, and please don't delete me, I do not send challenges!
