Im thinking about using an all dragon army for de hunting (trying to get aq.)
my goals:
1. Use 4 or less dragons per attack. This will allow me to attack 4-6 times an hour with 8 in camps.
2. Try to maintain an elixier income.
3. Minimize build times.
my questions:
1. What is a good amount of de to target? Of course, the more the better, but should i aim for minimum 1k?
2. I am aiming for 20-40 non-dragon troops. What would be best to use there? Im thinking about all minions for goal 3.

Always take some archers while dragon raiding, to remove anything out of defenses range and help to clean up behind them. Also use them to help usher dragons into the direction you want them - so they don't go aimlessly attacking ♥♥♥♥ like camps outside of the walls.
Minions may help reduce raid times, but more importantly and allow dragons to live longer by attracting aerial defenses.
Late on TH7 I was using 6 dragons [120], 50 archers [170] & 15 minions [200].
15 minions is only 105 DE at level 2. But helps the dragons out a lot.
Then debate whether to use lightning [cheaper, faster to cook] to kill CC troops so you don't waste troops on them. Or Rage to allow dragons to push deeper.
Haha Swimmer is right. I would use archers as your ground troops
I'm going to skip on spells i think, if i want to attack 4 times an hour only lightning can fit, maybe take out a low ad. But, dragons do a great job vs clan troops imho, the pain in the butt is heroes because they go back to the altar and drag my dragon all the way across the base.
Fair enough too, but always handy to have at least one bolt in case of a centered clan castle. You don't want those clan troops killing your dragons.Quote:

A few weeks ago I really experimented with a "hybrid dragon army" if you want to call it that. I tried a mix of ground and air but it didn't really work every time.
I decided that over the course of a weekend I was happy to just login once every hour and do a quick dragon raid. This army worked very well and I was averaging over 2.2k DE per battle:
- 8 dragons (ie: 2 in each barracks)
- 10 minions
Therefore the dragons are ready in an hour, or less if you don't use them all.
Note:
- I had full 6 million elixir so wasn't bothered about burning through it.
- I just focused on the DE, if I got anything else then it was a bonus.
- I only had 3 x lightning spells (no rage) and used them on 1 AD each time.
- Depending on how quickly I logged in there wasn't always 3 spells so some battles used none.
- I was at 1,800 trophies and kept searching until I found a base I was happy with.
- It was almost foolproof source of DE but I understand not many are happy with 1 battle per hour.
I would drop most dragons together and then use some minions to pick off outer buildings (while the dragons were taking the fire). Once these outer buildings were gone the dragons would move forward into the base, rather than go around the outside. Always save a few back just in case the first wave create a path to the DE and then deviate away from it. You need something to go in and mop up.
Honestly, this was by far the easiest way to get DE but it has to work with your schedule.
Yeah the 4 dragon army didnt last long, maybe up to 1400. Now im using 5. Minions are kind of a mixed bag, for whatever reason they always fly past the dragons into a wizard tower.
You read my notes? Haha, that is pretty much EXACTLY how I got my DE at TH7. I did try to be stingy at first, as suggested in this thread. But ended up needing more. 7-8 drags with a few minions/archers to support was my only difference.Quote:

To maintain your elixir don't use drags as you don't need them. Farming at ~1700 with giants, WBs, archers, barbarians and gobs gets you the DE nice and fast without the huge elixir cost you are thinking of spending.
OP, If you are trying to farm for DE, might I suggest this method from UnitySharp (see link below - I don't have enough post count to use URL so just put the period between the "forum," "supercell" and "net"). I have been using these and it has been great.

Similar to what Stitch stated below, having a mix air and ground troops didn't work well for me; I went with a flying army. I ran with 4 dragons, 20 minions and remaining where balloons and it did quite well. I used rage instead of lighting spell as I noticed lightning spell does take out higher level AD. I used dragons/minions as shield for balloons to take out the AD or have dragons as shield and minions take out the AD. I would save about 5 or 6 minions for the second wave as necessary.
With this, I was able to trophy push from 1350 to 1800 (and still going). DE loot was good as well.
