The Boom Beach Philosophy and the Clash Update
TL;DR people: scroll down and read the bold text.
Amidst all the complaint threads, I just want to point something out. Hopefully this won't be buried in a matter of minutes.
Background info: Boom Beach is one of two other Supercell games. It was released more recently (1-2 years?) than Clash and does not have the same level of success. It does rank pretty high on the App Store rankings though.
I believe that Boom Beach has a really strong developer team that is pushing the game in the correct direction. The game is currently multi-faceted and diverse, and there are a variety of different ways to play the game (Task Forces / Operations, multiplayer / resource bases, farming and turtling, pushing VPs, Dr. T, etc.). The typical player isn't forced to play the game in any way; in fact, the dev team promotes playing the game in your own style.
Example: There was a Reddit AMA created by the Boom Beach developer team a couple months ago. At least one person asked (or was it complained? Not sure) about turtling, which is a tactic used by casual farming players. The devs responded by saying that is a valid way to play the game and even encouraged it, instead of debasing it.
Moreover, a lot of the recent updates affected all or most players instead of just a portion. More Operation bases, fancier graphics and art, etc.
So why can't the same philosophy be applied to Clash??
Creating new ways or simply encouraging different ways to play the game is a much more sustainable and lucrative stragety than narrowing down playstyle and changing the game to be "how we want it to be played".
A few of the big reasons why the current Clash update has caused such a massive outrage include how the update makes farming a much more tedious process, how much casual players are affected and discouraged from playing the game, and how war loot was reduced. Also, the update seemed to mostly benefit on trophy pushers and hardcore players, leaving the casuals, farmers, and war players a little left out. (BTW I'm part of all three of the latter categories.)
And yes, while there were a few minor but nice touches (increased timer, shorter prep day, etc.), most of us - including myself - feel, to varying extents, that the bad outweigh the good.
So please, the Clash developer team, can you reconsider your philosophy and the future of your game?
And lastly, what do you all think?
P.S. If you really want Supercell to hear your direct thoughts, try PM'ing a Supercell staff member directly. If they don't read the threads, they should at least take notice of their PMs.
