I'm a semi-active player who does a few raids a day. Farming is a good way to gain much ressources with only spending a little bit time of a day playing the game (Let's say two hours). The farming bases made it easy to get a shield without losing much ressources, so for players like me, progress was still possible even if i don't play until i reach the personal break multiple times a day.
TH snipes were a nice bonus to the loot. Just a nice bonus, not the main income.
Now, instead of being shown to two or slightly more people, hundreds of players look into my base, an almost early but solid Th10. I get attacked after few hours, what isnt really bad, but that means that people like me appear much more often in the matchmaking: Solid Town halls which require solid armies to be taken out. I often have almost two kind of ressources full, but if you make an army with multiple thousands of dark elixir an hundred thousands of elixier, it's better to try a Th10 who has all three kind of ressources full than me. Normally, I dont get every storage of other TH10s, maybe its because im a "noob", but that's how it is in my case.
So making heavy armies doesnt sound profitable to me, so i mainly make a composition based on GiBarch which is much cheaper. But because of the villages like me, villages with full collectors appear rarer, and because i dont want to next until the morning i startet to primarily attacking bases with the loot in the storages. That doesn't work as good as my farming before the update, so i value the update as negative.
Oh, yes, you can attack multiple times during the shield, but as a not that much active player i rather use the full shield time while i'm sleeping, working or doing other real life stuff. It's rare that i use that comfort of making an army between two attacks during a shield and therefore it's no real advantage for me.
As Th10, i don't get completely destroyed every time i go off, so im still able to make good progress, but if i were a Th9 or lower, i'm not sure if this play style would work because the danger of being completely destroyed for a massive amount of loot is much higher.

No, but buying 2- 3m walls in a week is not great expecially with collector boosts.
I got level 7 giants a week ago and have been spending my elixer down on walls too.
But, prior to this update I never th sniped never and barched.
However, loot was much more plentiful and easier to hold onto.
Now its a 2 step forward 1 step back sluggish march.
Just goona point out the major problems for you
1>TH Sniping was bad n funny (to see the villagers run inside the th wile being attacked) but it had its advantages.
a)it gave value to bases which had no resources now these bases are just piled up on the queue with nobody to attack them and its causing major time wastage while nexting (spending almost 50000 gold here)
2> SC assumed that players would be able to get in 3 attacks during the shield time unfortunately its not possible for the people in working class (problem made worse by the increase in nexting time)
armies capable of getting wins will make several units and in game strategies useless and further narrows the scope of the game.Also there's the minor trolling issue for DE
No, I want this little phone tap game to be a pleasent destraction. If it were a matter of playing better it would be one thing. What they are asking for is more time and or money.
I have pleantly of real games to play if I want some hardcore experience.
Why to people forget this is a casual phone tap game no different than any of the others. Phones are just not capable of handling a deep complex game.
I have Starcraft CnC and TW for real stratagy games. They take 100x the thought and skill as this and are not pay to win.
The 'know it all' trainee/fresh spawn strikes again lol! Go home. This update is nothing short of garbage. Loot is truely terrible now. I have been posting for over 1.5 years. Never complained about loot. I'm complaining now. Because the update is killing an awesome game, loot is terrible and SC/devs are out of touch with mass players.

Perhaps I can help th op understand. The people most negatively affected by the update are casual players like myself. We don't often get much more than an hour or so to play in a day, and can't necessarily stop what we are doing every time our army (and spells) finishes cooking to go on a raid. The fairly reliable cheap shield for th snipes are what really made it possible for us to progress. My usual raiding party pre-update was Giants, archers, hogs, and gobs, I haven't barched since early th8. If you don't believe that, find me in game (clan 6MONKEYS, and my village name is the same as my forum name) and you'll see that I'm a th9 with only walls, blowers, and heroes (some troops to) left to upgrade, but I haven't bothered to upgrade my barbs yet, mostly because I don't use them. Any th sniping I did was simply on targets of opportunity, resources were, and still are, the goal behind raiding. There are several issues post update that are making things harder for everyone, not just casual players. Th sniping, in addition to its other benefits, added a great deal of loot to the CoC economy via loot bonuses. The loss of the resources generated in this way is part of why loot seems to have become so scarce, the other being that raiding itself has become more expensive. Because the league bonus is now tied to the percentage of distraction we now have to use war armies (and spells) to get the most of it. So not only is the return on investment lowered considerably, it all but assures that when you do get hit, you will get hit hard. I have two accounts, and I think my experience with the update is illustrative.
first account is on my android phone. at work I can pull it out every couple hours for 5-10 minutes and raid someone. I can also raid in the evening when an army is ready. I can reasonably pull off a 3-offense-to-1-defense ratio with this account, which means I can make some serious progress with loot. also, this account is a mature th10, so most of the raids fail to get the DE store, or more than 1 or 2 gold/lix stores. the update suits this village just fine, thanks.
other account is baby th10 with max th9 defenses and lvl1 infernos. this village is on family ipad, which means at best I am looking at one raid in the morning before work, and then a few hrs in the evening after kids are in bed while watching tv and other stuff. this village has to actually use the shields to work and sleep. it's hard work to maintain 2-to-1 offense to defense ratio, and when the raids come they demolish me. still been making progress with this village but it's been extremely slow. huge slog just to start a single lab or tower upgrade. the 1-gem boost helps a little for now, but that will go away.
OP is the kind of player who is similar to my first account. he is good with the update. I think many, probably most players are more like the second account, as most folks probably have a harder time playing during the work/school day. the difference has absolutely nothing to do with their skill at the game or willingness to "adapt" to grind out progress. supercell really screwed this entire category of players with this update.
