80% of raids were snipes, now they're trophy drops. How is this an improvement again?
A lot of PBT update supporters have been saying how eliminating the free shield somehow makes more sense in terms of how the game should "appropriately" be played. Most of these discussions revolve around the concern that essentially not having to really worry about resource protection de-legitimizes the game. But what I've been observing is that the "legitimate" attacks inspired by this new update that would purportedly be motivated by winning, trophies, stars, loot, and/or percent destruction (in other words, attacking for anything other than JUST loot) simply just haven't appeared yet for me.
My defense log has changed drastically altered ever since throwing down all my de on my AQ29 upgrade as a near max TH9 - which makes sense because only maybe 20% of all players raiding at any given time are looking for something other than loot, right?
Looking at the log, 8/11 of my previous defenses are people attacking me with a single troop so they can drop trophies, including the 1st five raids immediately after my de store was basically emptied. Guess what the very next raid was? Someone most likely hitting my full mines/collectors/drills within an hour of me waking up (played this game a long time, I instinctively check it 1st thing in the morning) because the entire night people were clicking next upon seeing my base. I can't 100% confirm that was what the raid was, because the newer version of the update's maintenance break wiped it out. But then again, why would anyone attack a nearly max th9 with very little available loot? And yes, the first person to do so was a terrible attack by a guy that dropped 28 giants, and 100 archers straight into my ringus base. Hmm, makes me feel SO much better about my resource defending ability, thanks update!
The largest false assumption that the pro-PBT update community makes with this argument is that the majority of players raiding at any given time are motivated by 'glory', or whatever you want to call it, not loot. At least prior to this update players got something for properly farming - a free shield. Now, to better protect my loot I've been given an additional chore of making sure I disseminate enough of my trophies to everyone protecting their loot before I prep my base to farm. I've been given a unique perspective to this update as a nearly max th9, and I would feel no less "legit" a clasher if I went back to only occasionally getting my de store robbed by a th9+ even with my th in the corner, instead of losing 10k de across 4 straight raids while trying to save up for my 6th-to-last hero upgrade at th9. But then again, I'm probably just an inexperienced clasher with yet another complaint thread...
