This game does not really has a big community, even trading items and asking questions take hours for forum members to reply. Of course, I'm using Clash of Clans as comparison which may not be logical but that's how it goes IMO. The players in Hay Day seems to be reaching a stagnant point.
Nothing dies in hay day ;)
i am not much of an active forum visitor so i cant really say much about the community in the forum. I do think it has been getting quieter here compared to two years ago. Maybe the game is stagnating, maybe not.
All i know is that the players are quite active. I never need to wait long for a chat with my hoodies or help from outside the hood if needed.
Forum not as enjoyable anymore for many people. This does not necessarily reflect gameplay. It was always an insignificant portion of players. Many forum members may be like me, and refrain from responding to posts due to culture which is intolerant of a different point of view. Just gives me time to play more. People quit the game, people join the game.
I've seen this brought up a handful of times in the 2.5 years of playing Hay Day, so I'd say, not, it's not dying. :)
Was it ever alive?
Proof of life, please. :D
Hay day is very much alive, my phone not so much...

I started playing nearly 2 years ago and am still enjoying the game. I think you are comparing 2 different types of games that have different goals. Here nothing dies! If I choose to take a break, nothing happens to my farm or NH (of course, I would opt out of derby). I can change my style of play and choose what I want to do and how much.
I think ink even the regular forum members are often busy with their own game that they may not be here as often, or so it seems. Also remember there is a major holiday that often distracts people from the normal routine.
I really dont don't see Hay Day going away. At least I hope not.
Woohoo. Glad to have given Hay Day a sign of a pulse  :) (figuratively speaking)
I started playing about two years ago, when I was pregnant with my first I had a lot of down time, Hay Day gave me comfort. I initially loved that nothing died in the game like in others, if I didn't harvest my crops for a couple days, they would still be there ready for me. I liked the fact that I could play when I had a chance. Now, it's open way more often haha. I find myself opening the app when I'm supposed to be doing something else, and think "What am I doing? I didn't mean to open Hay Day", it's just habit.
Sometimes I get frustrated with the derby (thank goodness for the opt-out option now), and the lack of updates for the Town, but not enough to be so disgruntled that I stop playing. My personal feelings of course, I know others have different experiences.
Wish I could live in my farm
The game is strong. the chat about the game may be dying. there is only so much you can say about what do you think the next event will be, when do you think the next update will be, where are my movie tickets, and how can I play faster harder better smarter.
we will most likely get new forum members coming in after the holidays as they get their devices and begin searching for how to play this new game they downloaded. then activity will pick up again for a while. Then school and work will start back and it'll go back down.
While it's true that clash has around 5000 people on their all the time and hayday has closer to 500 or less. it's also a more laid back game that doesn't require constantly trying to out do others. I don't see the lack of conversation as a death knell for the game.
This is of course simply an opinion.
Shut the servers down for 10 minutes and this forum will blow up like the 4th of July...just saying :)
I wouldn't say Hay Day is dying, but I do think the forum seems to be. These forums are less friendly, less creative, and less maintained than they used to be (our moderators do a wonderful job but they cannot work miracles). Notices about Hay Day go up on Facebook but no notice of new updates appears here until a player comments 'Facebook says ...'. Contests happen on Facebook and have been discontinued on the forum, replys from Supercell are fewer than they used to be, player posts are less friendly and welcoming of new ideas, posts from newbies are fewer, and accusatory statements are more common. The atmosphere feels more like reading the comments on Facebook than the welcoming one I felt when I first joined the forums. *note - this is my perception. And I'm sure it's coloured by the areas of the forum I choose to hang out in and I've no doubt someone (or multiple someones ;)) will have a different opinion. But it is how I feel reading these forums lately and I find myself doing so less often because of it.
Hay Day itself has had a hard year in my opinion. And unless grand plans are in the future I fear stagnation is happening. 2013 had 11 updates, 2014 had 7, and 2015 had 5 (if my numbers are off I welcome corrections). Two years ago we might have had updates as little as three weeks apart. This year has averaged 2.5 months. I think the longest time has been 3.5 months. And every update this year has featured the derby quite prominently. It's easy to forget in the middle of the derby mania that we've also seen four production machines (pasta maker, Italian kitchen, hot dog stand, and hat maker) and two new types of pets (puppies and kittens), as well as a new horse, an update to the town (yes, that was this year), and lots of new land and decorations.
But those four new machines have given us only 11 new products between them, we've had only two products added to existing machines, one of those machines has no opportunity to expand past the two products it currently makes (pasta maker), and we've seen no new crops, fruits, or animals since last year (ducks). Why I think expanding product offerings is a possibility I don't know, as five of the last eight machines only make three products each and two of them only make two products, but I keep hoping. I see so many possibilities to keep Hay Day fun and new and build on itself but I'm feeling more and more despondent about where Supercell is taking it after this very derby-centric year.
That reads like I think there's no future with this game, and I certainly don't mean that. But it could be that this is as good as it gets. I would find this very sad, because I think there's so much potential to maintain the wonderful farm game I found three years ago and keep it engaging for players as they progress through to the triple digit levels. I just haven't seen much of it this past year.
I think when the pink Barbie machines came out, it was a sad day. There went the "farm".
I have mentioned in many threads there needs to be something more engaging for level 100 and up. All levels get the same events and same prizes. There are so many wonderful things that could be expanded on. It doesn't even have to be a new feature. Just add to what is already in place. I detest fishing but that seems like a neglected area imho. Town is a chore and a bore. Too much focus has been put on the derby (again imho) that other areas are neglected. I will not stop playing anytime soon, but my enthusiasm has waned of late.
All games die eventually. Sure there will be stragglers hanging on for as long as they can but death is inevitable.
I continue to play because I have only recently tried the hood aspect and am thoroughly enjoying getting to know my new friends and learning a new language while I am at it as I have joined a Spanish speaking hood.
IMO (and it may not be worth much), the Derby is the final cash grab before the game dies.
I hope not, just started it and love it.
Don't know whether the game is dying or not,
but with many of the regulars working on nine (ten?) derby tasks,
I think a lot of people are spending more time in the game
and less time 'here' reading and writing about it.
Well, I am not actively playing hay day since September, so its only dead to me
Does this in any way pertain to what's going on over in the CoC forums? I accidently stumbled over there through another members profile and got lost in the mayhem. It is a disaster...has anyone else seen what's going on?
I'd say our derby problems are pretty tame, lol.
I too feel the game has become hay Derby as opposed to hay day. Such a shame. I've got excited about the new event then realised nothing new is available unless we reach the goal which I would love to receive. So as much as I would like the global gift I have stopped calling boats etc. Supercell need to listen to us, because as much as Nick says repeatedly they read the forums they are obviously ignoring us. The amount of posts I see about the Derby shows that it is not as popular as they'd hoped, and that as someone posted above is seen as a last chance to cash grab rather than an addition to the game. The town and fishing areas needed help and development. I personally feel they've bitten off more than they can chew and don't have the ideas or maybe knowledge (I don't either so it's not a dig!) to keep up with 4 areas - farm, town, Derby and fishing. Maybe they should leave the Derby well alone and develop the other parts that came first. And yes something needs to be done for over level 90-100 and not just a tree!
I agree with Besta and 00becker. I agree that the forum is less friendly and fun than it used to be. It used to be compulsory reading, now I can ignore it for days and only come on to see what players are griping about now. That says it all. I agree that the new Barbie-look machines are a disincentive, but I have enough native trees to hide the worst of them. I was gutted when the pasta kitchen was modified shortly after I had mastered it and gained a tablecloth for my restaurant seating. That was very hard to forgive. IMHO the derby is a disaster. More of my hood have opted out than are playing these days.
I personally have reverted to farming the way I did in the beginning, ignoring the derby and the town and just losing myself in farm chores and keeping my machines running, in the vein of "Hay Day is cheaper than therapy". (It's been another tough year).
I read through some of the AMA responses and looked at the sneak peek of new decorations and am quite looking forward to them, simply because I already have an area I call my "Zen garden" on my farm and the new decorations will really identify it as a true Zen garden. The potted cherry blossom tree, the sand garden and the entrance portal will look great there. I just wonder how long we will have to wait for them, and how many dozens of diamonds SC will charge for them? It's about time we had some deco come out that we can purchase with absurd amount of coloured vouchers we have amassed. Another aspect of the game SC has totally neglected in it's lust for diamond revenue.
Anyway, that's my thoughts on the matter. Hay Day isn't dying, but it is stagnating through lack of attention from SC.
I became bored with hayday once I had all the machines and had expanded all my farm then said I was going to quit when I reached lvl 100 (now lvl 110).
The derby was introduced so that brought about renewed interest but now I don't enjoy playing the new format and after opting out for a time I'm back playing in the current derby.
The town is tedious but necessary to keep up my supply of saws and axes. I rarely fill boats but like helping others out.
I wld love to start from scratch again, oh the challenge!
Every game has a life cycle and I think Hay Day has seen it's......Heyday.
Still breathing. But given that there hasn't been much new content since the Derby was introduced I agree it is suffering from lack of attention.
The Seasonal Events now are really just copies of normal events.
If I was just starting Hay Day I wouldn't worry about it dying any time soon.
It might even hang on for some time as Hay Derby. I don't know.
But given that there are games that are competing in the same genre with even more content, creativity, long term playability, Achievements and ever changing Events I don't see Hay Day surviving much longer than another year or two.
Perhaps SC has a plan and are okay with Hay Day slowly dying while they are getting ready to unveil something fresh, new and fun. Goodness knows the company has the people with the skill and the vision to stay in mobile games for a long time to come.
To me Hayday is dying.
The house-achievements (Serve X visitors, get a point and some diamonds) has taken a giant step in the wrong direction with the "Stay in the top derby league for X weeks".
Before I was in total control over, when i got those achievement points and that has always been the goal for me to have them all.
Now i have to drop out of my NH and make a NH with only me in it to be able to go there.
The derby has gotten a WAAAY to prominent place in the game as well...All anyone is talking about is the derby and its one endless "Throw away useless sub-200 point tasks and hope there will be a 250+ task in 30 minutes".
I almost retired a few days ago...I got fed up with the derby.
Played for 2 years and am at level 90 (Not bought a single diamond) and 99% of my Facebook friends that played have dead farms now aswell.
I agree more or less Glade. I am playing less but still daily but mostly because real life has been extra busy of late. I have only participated in one derby in the last few weeks for the same reason. However I do service the town. I enjoy the town and it gives great XP. It would be so nice to be able to get decorations with vouchers though, one can only hope😀
i still enjoy playing and it is, usually, relaxing😀
Indeed, the Derby isn't popular with the forum readers but does this sample size represent the views of millions of players? Is its unpopularity in the forum supported by internal tracking data showing that players are logging into HD less and spending less after the Derby was introduced in March?
I wonder who are on the Hay Day Team and what they contribute to the success and viability of the game. There are of course the coders and the artists. As Community Manager, Nick gathers feedback from social media and various forums and shares it with the team. He is the de facto voice of HD.
I'm speculating the following. There's another team member who also play an important role but hasn't been mentioned yet. Let's call this person the Data Analyst (DA) who has been with the team since HD was conceived 3 years ago. The DA's function is to review data and predict trends. What if DA reported to the team in the past the folllowing: When new users download HD, they become quickly addicted and log in several times a day to play and are very active in the first few weeks to months. But when they reach higher levels and unlock most of the machines, they lose interest and play a few times a week and adopted a casual style of playing. The solution is to add more content by introducing more machines, products, and decorations to engage the veteran farmers. But the spike in activity lasts only a few weeks. The team brainstorms ideas to sustain HD and engage all players from low to high levels. One of these ideas is most likely the Derby.
I'm curious to know if the internal data reveal the Derby has motivated the base of high level farmers to play more often than before it was introduced. Has the Derby also increased activity across all levels of farmers?
The DA knows, don't you? Maybe you should join the HD Team for the next AMA on Reddit. :)
Well, I have been play hay day for 7 months and stopped playing a three months ago, I started redecorating my this week, but I'm about to quit again. I'm trying to figure out why I liked this game to begin with, it's actually extremely boring. So yes hay day is dead to me, I won't try any other supercell games, so supercell is dead to me too
Yes, it's dying. Derby kind of killed it.
There are less new players for sure and a part of that is the amnt of land they need to expand.
if i was a new player and i found out the amnt of land I'll need to work on expanding i will definitely not play hayday
when i joined 2.5 years ago the land was decent and with the time came more land but to me it seemed less
now everytime i see a farm that has triple the size of its 'in use' land to expand i feel so bad for them
There me were also less machines and things to aim for and there was no derby
its 100 times harder to start off as a new player nowadays . Very discouraging
you don't *have to* expand all the land though. Also, these things come naturally as you level up and I wonder if people really worry about that.
There are many different types of farmers, forum visitors, derby players (and more, of course) in Hay Day. I reply to make it more meaningful to the people whom I'm quoting, like right now.
It will, but not to the extent of other subforums (Clash of Clans, early December and Boom Beach, March 2015).
I play another game which has features that seem to be as interesting as what Hay Day offers.
The farmers who have more land than what they use might be using the land that way because they don't want to let the land become filled up with dead trees or bushes. They might be doing that to reserve space for more machines.
I don't think that it's 100 times, but rather just about 2-3 times harder for the new players to start. If it were 100 times harder, then the new players coming in would decrease enough for SC's income to decrease in some way (my thoughts only). "Starting off as a new player" refers to only the lower levels (for me, I define it as levels 1-30). After level 30, players would know more about what they can do with strategies. So, it's not discouraging for new players, but not encouraging either (because of what I am about to say directly below).
I don't believe that Hay Day is dying, but I believe that it is somehow leaning towards the dead side. Here is why Hay Day is not dying for me:
- I can think about what orders to satisfy, and orders to replace so that I can satisfy my current needs (coins, experience, achievements, derby, etc.)
- I can think about what derby tasks to choose and to have replaced
- I can interact with the newspaper and visit farms to get their helps done
- I can place ads in the newspaper to get help by other people
The only real reasons that Hay Day isn't going to exist for a very long time are that events are repetitive and that lower level players that have to get a lot of coins within a relatively short period will be at a disadvantage, and may even leave the game because of that.
Here are 2 other reasons why Hay Day is dying:
- I don't have much interaction between closely related farms (neighbors)
- There is limited choice of town visitors to pick up
These are just my preferences, and I can resolve these later on.
Of course they have focussed on it. It's a new feature and one that has required quite some tweaking in order to get it as good as they are going to get it. I think that's fair and to be expected. I don't think they will always remain focussed on derby, because at some point it will have its place like all the other parts of the game. They just had to solve a bunch of issues and tweak it over the past few months.
I agree Derby development seems to have overrun Hayday ~ come on supercell let's have more machines, animals, crops and trees that everyone not just Derby fanatics can enjoy.
I have been playing for more than two years, I still play everyday, but not as much as I used to.
I am in a two person neighborhood and we both tired of the derby and quit playing.
The DD is awful, just about the only things available are grains, eggs, red hats and tofu dogs. You used to be able to find lots of goodies, but no more. It's not worth looking at. I do put lots of goodies up for sale, atleast two times a day, things like cheese, cream, cakes, sugars, jams, etc. Unless you have someone in your NH that shares, you aren't going to find them.
i don't keep up my town, kinda boring, I do the boat every now and then and do help others with their boats. I wish you could get nice decorative items with coins instead of diamonds. I have 6.5 million coins that are pretty much worthless.
Oh well, just my thoughts.
