Thoughts on Reddit AMA...

So first props for this even being done. I've long felt there's been a noticeable lack of interaction between SC and at least HD players so it's nice to see them putting forth an effort to connect.

But I was disappointed in the responses.

1. I didn't see anyone ask or complain about the CL derby achievements, though I glazed over most of the derby stuff anyway, so I guess those of us unhappy with them didn't have an ambassador today.
2. Last helpers was asked about but the question went completely ignored so if you're one of those unhappy with that feature then it doesn't look like there's any hope on the horizon for change there.
3. re: town "We're thinking about what's next for the town! So far we don't have any specific plans but it's on our minds." So I guess no town update anytime soon.
4. FYI Greg's boardwalk can only be obtained via the Wheel of Fortune.
5. No plans to return to drag n' drop events.
6. Re: movie tickets "Over time we have been experimenting with different configurations in regards to who sees movie tickets, how many, how often and from which partners. We are still working on the system until we have found an optimal solution." Which basically means no plans for everyone to get movie tickets. Also one of the mods confirmed that you do lose tickets when you buy diamonds.

I was surprised to see they've been discussing trading. "In our initial thoughts it have been a RSS slot, and would have a cool-down as well.. but those are just ideas on paper."

And there was this interesting bit: "I am going to share a secret on how things can go - we had planned a circus train for the game, with pretty amazing mini-games and whatnot, but during our internal testing, it just didn't work out. We had it all - animals, train, music, funny animations.. you name it. BUT, it didn't feel right and it felt too far from the Hay Day experience. So, we ditched it and continued to plan something different. That's how we ended up with the Derby. :) The core of the Derby is something we had as a feature in the circus train, but obviously the Derby is nowadays much much bigger."

But overall I felt like it was a huge sea of "no plans" comments and though I couldn't find the comment again it sounds like they're not done with derby updates either. Combined with their comments about how they can only focus on one thing at a time due to the small size of the team that wasn't very encouraging either.

Next update is possibly Q1 '16 and the only hint was "it will be something that you guys have been asking for a long time already". I'm clueless since everything I saw that HAS been requested for a long time was replied with "no plans" so your guess is as good as mine there. Maybe it's this? "We'll probably change the boat price thingy for the next update :)" Pretty underwhelming if it is.

Oranges...bananas maybe? :confused: That's been requested for a long time.

No drag and drop events. Hmmm...So I should ditch my woollies I guess. I really like those drag and drop events.

Circus...hmmm...sounds interesting. In a parallel world, their HD has a circus but no derby. I'd love to see their posts. ;)

Town updates: I don't like the town that much so that's good news. I'd prefer farm updates to town updates.

So typical sc response to legitimate questions. Either give a non-answer answer or totally ignore the question. Well that was helpful. As far as I can tell the above answers have been answered in the forum.

Edit: Yes this is a negative post by me. I was hoping sc was really going to address some issues and concerns of its players. But I wasn't holding my breath.

Hmmm, we tried to cover as many questions as we could, but unfortunately there will always be some that slip through our fingers. It is not possible to answer all of them, and if we spotted a question we already had answered to (or is in our "ruled out" post here on the forums) we skipped them to save time for new questions.

When we get a question which is "when is the next update going to be released" or "will you change this option to that", the answer will be as honest as we can. If we haven't set a date or even a time-frame for the next update, OR decided what to do with certain feature change requests, we can't give too detailed replies. That's unfortunate, but we don't like giving a "promise" we can't keep.

You guys are always welcome to ask us questions here on the forums at any time, but bear in mind that we just released our latest update, and now it is time for us to regroup and plan 2016. Thus we don't have anything carved in stone yet, and though we have ideas what we would love to do next (this is based on community feedback), we can't share that information yet. If we would, the expectations would be raised and then if we decide to kill that feature for any reason, the disappointment will be huge for some. We don't want to go that route.

Anyway, please keep asking us questions and we will provide as detailed answers as possible. Just keep in mind that not all questions can be replied to since we don't have plans for such requests, or we do, but they are not on the road map yet.

This was asked in the AMA if I recall correctly, and like we answered, yes there will be a special Holiday event in Hay Day. :) The prize will be something unique again (as usual) but I don't want to spill the beans yet what it is. :)

Finally....sc admits that you lose tickets after buying diamonds. I've been saying this forever and yet people on here tried to convince me it was a coincidence.

so why bother asking questions that the answer will be maybe in the future update..

Perhaps they did AMA because some people might want to ask intelligent questions. It is not reasonable to ask about updates they have not planned out.

I am not sure why players should ignore AMA's and such? We answered maybe hundreds of questions, out of which only a handful were about future features and plans. Those kind of questions are difficult to give an answer to (as I explained earlier) so I am not so sure why an AMA would be useless just because we can't talk about future features we haven't planned yet? We have no plans to change the decoration prices for this season. What happens next year is something I can't foresee.

Like Boom team, you can even hold one few days before update and the team and fans could discuss, better than sneak peeks. At Least you know what is coming a few days before update!

I would've been pretty satisfied with something like "We have big plans for the town, stay tuned!" if you actually had anything coming up for it.

I was disappointed because I didn't see much evidence SC plans to address things players have been complaining about for years. Reading that movie tickets are intentionally exclusionary was ♥♥♥♥. How is that considered a fair practice? You know how much advantage someone getting even just 1 diamond a day over someone who doesn't is? That's not even including the other stuff they get like EMs. And, seriously, what other game does this? I've never heard of a game with rewarding ads only offering them to select people and removing them as soon as they spend money on the game. :confused:

And yeah the last helpers question was pretty noticeably ignored. Questions had slowed to a crawl at that point and it really looked like you were cherry picking the most frivolous ones to respond to before wrapping up like "How much wheat could a wheater wheat, if a wheater would wheat wheat?" :rolleyes:

I think the problem is that 2015 has literally been the Year of the Derby so I can see why people would be upset at not being thrown any bones for any other kind of content coming soon.

And I'm really not trying to discourage AMAs and am glad to see you'll continue with them despite any negative feedback. On the plus side I was pleasantly surprised you've at least been talking about trading options. +1 to Cami's deco sneak peek too.

But that doesn't change how disappointed I was to see no plans to address existing things, not future things, that've made a lot of players unhappy for a long time.

I don't blame them at for not being specific.

All it will take is a casual mention of some possible crop or feature from someone in an official position for it to quickly spiral out of control.

People will assume that's something that will happen, and will be disappointed/furious when it doesn't: "WHERE ARE THE ALMONDS YOU PROMISED US!?!? #almondgate"



However, if doing another AMA close to an actual update would allow you talk about actual upcoming features, then that's a great plan.

I read the AMA and found it somewhat interesting. And while I understand the shortcomings that people are referring to, I think it was on par with what I expect have read other AMAs in the past, which means the disappointed people had unrealistic expectations.

That makes no sense to me. On one hand not disappointed that there were no details, but on the other hand dissappointed that they chose not to share them.

Phrases like "thinking about it" are just a nice euphemism for "Plans for future versions can't be released so stop asking already!". It's not just about the disappointment that will be created if they change their minds. It's also about not telling the competition what the plans are.

Ohhh it's so fun! SC picks an item or a range of items, like say, winter woolies for example. The event then has us contribute x number of woolies to add to a given overall global goal AND your own smaller goals that have tiers where when you meet those, you get prizes.

Last October (2014) we had a pumpkin pie and pumpkin soup event.

Last winter we did the wooolies and also the year before that from what I recall. Last winter we didn't meet the goal which awarded everyone that bell deco you see now in your deco tab. That was hard on players. That bell was desired by many players.

One New Year's we contributed popcorn.

On one or two previous SC birthday (s), we contributed cream cakes.

On Valentine's Day of 2014 I think it was, we contributed cookies.

Some are harder than others LOL. There were more, that's all I can think of for now.

Those events were fun. Remember the b&e shortage? LOL. However I think i got my diamonds worth from Tom getting red scarves at my farm for one woolie event.

I also LOVED LOVED LOVED those drag and drop events and hope sc will reconsider. Sometimes it's just fun to get out of normal routine and make one thing over and over again on a certain machine. Forces you to do things differently in other parts of the gameplay to compensate.

Anyway, RIP drag and drops, we'll miss you. :(

I loved those events so sorry to see them go. If the prize was the usual 5 diamonds we would not have been so disappointed when we didn't meet the goal. I hope they reconsider & bring them back. I remember looking everywhere for eggs ....lol... Finally bought the rest of the chickens during that event!

Loved seeing the photo of the team & putting a face to the name. It was obvious that a lot of players did not read the rules but the staff was really patient with them.

Also understand that if something is in the development or testing phase, then it makes no sense to comment on it. If it does not work & has to be scrapped, players would start with the "broken promise" stuff again. I was surprised at a few of the players that commented on lack of info on upcoming additions.

I was not able to participate but read the entire session. I learned some things I did not know & have been playing for a long time. I give a thumbs up👍👍👍👍 and hope they continue to do the AMA.

That's very interesting. Harvest fairs and agricultural festivals are such a big part of farming, maybe SC could reimagine their circus idea more in that direction. It would be culturally and historically more in tune with farming.

I'm sure I've seen American "state fairs" as ideas proposed in the forums. It could be so amazing. A whole new area like that could be a happy balm for those burned out by the grind of the derby. This has so much potential and could be so enchanting. Blue ribbon bacon! Do it, SC. Pleeeeease.

I thought the AMA was a great initiative on SC's part, though I thought the list of questions that were "ruled out" was going to make it tough to get things going. I found the responses rather light weight at times, but was pleasantly surprised by the sneak peek of upcoming decorations and found the revelation of the circus train interesting. Not sure how you got from brainstorming a circus train to turning Hay Day into Hay Derby, but I guess that's what Brainstorming is all about - coming up with something totally left field.

If I had been able to be on line at the time, my question would have been around the coloured vouchers and why SC is not enabling at least some new decorations to be bought with vouchers instead of making everything cost diamonds? How about letting us spend some of our vast amount of vouchers on deco, Nick?

Yes, yes, yes - a thousand times, yes!
County and State fairs, especially in farm country, are a huge hit in the Summertime, in the U.S. There are all kinds of activities at the fairs: farm animal shows and judging, horse shows, dogs leaping for Frisbees and other antics, concerts, art displays, fireworks, farm equipment for show and sale, parades, games of skill and chance, rides, all kinds of specialty food and treats, demonstrations of all kinds - horseshoeing, veterinary, cheese making, glassblowing, hot air balloon rides, cooking, sculpting with butter and ice, baling, tractor pulls, horse-drawn farming equipment, antique cars,....

At some Medieval Summer Fairs, there is jousting, swordplay, archery, ancient craft demonstrations, Shakespeare in the park,....

In the fall there are horse/tractor- drawn hayrides, Apple cider and spiced donuts,...

In the winter, there are exhilarating sleigh rides.

There is so much that could be done with a fair theme.
Fairs are very, very popular in our part of the States. There is always something fun and interesting to do at the fair!:caticon:

A couple of days ago, I got a gold voucher. Instead of my usual excited "Yay!", I realized I have so many hard-won vouchers now gathering dust - what on earth am I going to do with yet another one?

Although I wasn't available to participate at the time of the AMA, I enjoyed very much reading all the Q&As posted in the comments. I think SC is doing a fantastic job.

That being said, however, I found one thing glaring me in the face that so deeply disappointed me: "We don't have any crops, animals or fishing spots planned at the moment, but anything is possible! ;)"

This answer was stated several times to several comments. I'm just thinking, Really? Absolutely Nothing new is being planned for?NOTHING?!?! There have been So many requests and suggestions for So long about these things, especially new crops and machines. I just can't express enough the incredibly huge sadness and disappointment I feel to find out, finally, that nothing is being planned for any of this.

I actually enjoyed the AMA on Reddit. I had until recently stopped posting there as my posts were being removed and I could not understand why. I've since had the admin team say it should never have happened so will start posting again.

I advertised the event in many places and was happy to see the questions and replies. Some of the key replies I passed on as well as some questions from Facebook users. Some Facebook players are not Reddit users so was happy to act as a conduit for this.

In regards to the Town Circus Train. I saw this on my visit to Helsinki and would love to have told the world but as you can see some ideas don't get pass the final stages which is an important factor in Supercells development. It's very easy to kill something if it goes against the original principles of the game or does not work as wanted. This pleases me as my main game focus is still farming. The derby, town, fishing areas are additional. Yes id like to see some changes for higher players and I do say some of the ideas I have or am told in my videos.

For or me the event was a good way to chat to the team and I wish we could have had separate chats so we could focus on one person.

i.e
Cami (Game Designer), talk about imagery, concepts etc.
Diego (QA), service issues and solutions to issues.
Stefan (Programmer), Derby Qs
Demi (Game Lead) future dreams for the game
Nick (Community Manager) general Q&A.

Maybe be for next time this could be a good idea.

In addition I think bringing in some gamers to talk with other players about general playing tips and design/layout ideas would make the chats better.

One thing I did like about Reddit was the fact the mods helped maintain the session. There was no spam and the topics could flow well.

The imagery Cami and Nick posted of the Elephant and the Japanese concept designs were well taken. I'd like to actually see more like this in the chats. Even if they are killed off ones or possible future ones that may or may not survive the process. The possibility for community discussion on these ideas could help the team focus on future updates and let players feel they have an input into the game.

For myself in 2016 I have to get the Hay Day team more involved in the videos I make, set up a live stream (which I need help on), and maybe be as a future option I could bring some forum members into a video chat to talk about the game.

I look forward to the next AMA by the way.

Any website developers around?
Perhaps they can make a special website for the AMA, anonymous questioning, as ranger suggested, different sections for 'Questions answered by All', 'by Cami', 'by Diego', etc.
When posting a question, allow choosing a category, like 'Derby', 'General', 'Future suggestions', 'Town/Fishing', 'Non-game related', etc. So the specific people as ranger suggested could answer questions from their field. SC as well as random people can filter the questions by these categories.

The website would also have a new button of 'question answered', i.e. the posted question is answered. The Mods/Staff or the poster can only mark the question as answered.
