Suggestions For A Different Usage Of Gems
We all use gems for in-game advantages, whether to finish upgrades sooner, boost barracks, resource collectors, or fill our coffers. It all gains us an advantage in one way or another in the game. But the end state of our village is one and the same. By this I mean the #1 ranked player globally at the present (BossHog) has the exact same village the 200th ranked player has. There is very little uniqueness to either aside from some minor decorations. They are both maxed out TH11's. Of course they spent tons of gems to be maxed out quickly enough to protect their rankings. Those rankings are what stand them apart from the rest of the clash world. But how do the casual gamers that play this regularly stand out? What would be our incentive to buy gems to add something unique to ourselves, to our experience?
I think the answer is in our own achievements, albeit small. If there were items in the village shop that correlated to our in-game achievements that unlocked after we hit a certain plateau, we'd be more than happy to purchase that for display in our village. A symbol of our proud work. For example, the Heroic Heist achievement pays the gem bonus once you've raided 1,000,000 dark elixir. What if at 10,000,000 dark elixir a specific flag unlocked that only you could purchase for 500 or 1,000, or however many gems, to place in your village.
This type of acquisition might motivate players to spend gems more toward obtaining these specific goals as well as the item itself once accomplished. Currently the only way to see what someone has accomplished is to look through their profile. Neat, but not very fun. An actual decoration in the village stands out more, it makes the village itself more unique. Something to boast about because the item is only available to the player that unlocked it through actual play. Personally I would see it more as a reward I'd be happy to purchase and display. The target audience includes the grinder that wants to achieve as much as possible while spending as little as possible or nothing at all. These items would not grant any advantages in the actual game. Their sole purpose would be to add a unique rewarding experience. No gem bonus would be given in order to purchase these. A player would either save up gems collected or make a purchase.
If you believe there is merit in this I'd love to hear feedback, criticisms, tweaks, etc.
