War matchmaking algorithm gone wild?

Got a new (for me) problem with war matchmaking. So far my clan had little problems, as long as searches were limited to a few minutes all went OK and we got very fair/balanced matches.

This WE we got a very, very unbalanced match. All pieces were several levels behind (Golems, for example, us:1 them:4/3). Same for the defenses (e.g. XBows us:1 them:3/2). Clank Perks: us:3 them:7. Potions: us few 4s them all at 6/5. TH very pretty well balanced (10 players) but all the rest was way off.

Has anything changed in War match-making recently? How is such an unbalance possible?

Hello, nothing has changed recently in war matchmaking. First of all, clan levels and perks are not counted when searching for a match in war. You can also not compare few defenses spells and troops as what matters is the overall attacking and defensive power of each clan.

Thanks for the hint. Problem is I cannot find one single component where we were not outmatched. Everything was off, even the barbarians were off! I am not counting one or two resources, I am counting them all!

Clan perks not used? Well, they give one extra upgrade, at least at that level...

Sorry to say but if you have TH9s with xbows BUT lv1 golems and lv4 spells then it's your fault more than matchmaking's.

So, you're saying that the matchmaking algorithm only looks at the THs? That sounds very unreal, I hope the developers did not get to do something so stupid...

It looks much more at the defensive side than the offensive one

So say you have an overall defense weight of 90 (random number)
Opponents have def weight of 95 (bit higher)

But opponents have offensive "weight" of 100 while you have 60.

According to the algorythm this is a balanced match while it's actually not

Fine. If we look just at the defensive side, the other team had, for example, walls almost max'ed out starting for the second to last players, something that we had (partially) only in the two top players. Same for the active defenses (XBows, Wizard towers, mortars, cannons... you name it).

There was not one single component (defense or offense) where we we were not out-numbered at the level of players. Never seen it before!

No, TH level doesnt really matter but some defenses weigh more than other in war matchmaking. In the link below you can see a spreadsheet on how much each structure in you base weights. It is outdated but you can get an idea on how it works.

Thanks, but I fear that the spreadsheet will not help. It is not one component that was off, ALL the components were off. Attack and defense, active and passive.

Dont look at this individually, you shouldnt compare the power of one player with its mirror in enemy clan. You can calculate your clans war weight and you enemys clan war weight and see that they are similar.

You might have left the search running too long. ANything outside of 15 minutes can be inaccurate.

Hello Manyolo,
we are a small clan and I know the levels of all the players. We are pretty well leveled and I know who is weak and were. However...

I went through the enemy bases one by one, before and during the war. All of them were very much leveled. Much higher then us. Starting from the second-to-last player they all had a level similar to our top three's. All of them, no exception... I would understand some inequalities, some peaks, some weaknesses. I could not find any beforehand, and even the war results reflected this (they did 28 points while we did 18). All their attacks gave minimum 2 points, all of them (and they had 2 attacks spare). We are not very experienced, but we are not beginners neither.

Believe me, something was wrong.

Are you on a win streak? I sometimes feel that war opponents are more difficult when on a win streak. I do find it odd, and I'm sure SC is working on it.

No, this is our second consecutive loss. And the other War was very fair... as well as our two previous victories.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the war matchmaking criteria.
