When to move up to TH5?

Hello all, I recently started and I've been doing some research on the game. The general consensus, from what I've learned so far, is to max everything before moving your TH up. Luckily I was only up to TH4 when I learned this so I've been upgrading everything recently. I'm getting to the point almost everything is maxed excluding my barracks, laboratory (And the upgrades for troops), collectors, and of my course my walls. I've included a screenshot as well to give a better idea of my base.

My question is when to upgrade my TH. I plan on upgrading my barracks and getting my collectors close to max (Maybe level 7 for all of them) but should I take the time to get the last upgrade on the collectors as well, or even concern myself with upgrading my troops/lab now? And what about my walls? From what I've read each wall costs 16.2k to upgrade to level 4 each. That's a decent chunk of change for 75 walls. Regardless of that, should I take the time to literally max out EVERY thing or go ahead and move up to TH5 before the walls, lab, and collectors get maxed?

Also, any suggestions for raiding armies? I currently use 5 giants, 3 wall breakers, and 30 or so goblins. Any advice for a cheaper set up that's still effective/cheap?

It's really good that you're joining the forums at this low of a level, you will learn many strategies and avoid noob mistakes. It's also really good that you have 4 builders, they help a lot. If you can ever get the 5th, I recommend it. Back on topic, the "max everything" rule doesn't really apply until town hall 7, as town hall 7 is the best town hall for getting loot. The reason people say to max everything is because of something called the "loot penalty" where, put simply, lower town halls gain more from higher town halls, and higher town halls gain less from lower town halls. This is why it's bad for people to upgrade their town hall too fast, because you won't have a good enough defense to protect from lower town halls or steal enough loot due to the loot penalty. However, until town hall 8, the loot penalty benefits you, as you will be able to attack higher town halls and steal more than someone of a higher level town hall. For example, if a town hall 8 attacks a town hall 8, he may be able to steal 200,000 gold. If a town hall 6 attacks the same town hall 8, they'd be able to steal 300,000 gold. My advice to you: upgrade all your army camps to the max, upgrade your lab to the max and always have something upgrading in it, upgrade all your barracks to level 5, you shouldn't be using anything above that in every raid for a while. Upgrade your storages as you need more loot for upgrades. Upgrade your mines and collectors to level 5, as they are a lot better from the below levels. On defense: Upgrade your clan castle as much as possible, it is the most underrated defense. Upgrade your mortars and wizard towers(when you get them) to the highest level, these both do splash damage(hit multiple opponents at once) and can help a lot in a raid. Plan your town hall upgrade so that you can max archer towers and cannons while it's upgrading. Also air defense may not be extremely important for a while but don't neglect it forever. And if you have extra gold before an upgrade, use it to upgrade walls. Welcome to the forums, and happy clashing :D

It's awesome that you are learning how to use the forums i made the mistake of not using them when I started but you should absolutely max EVERYTHING out for best results!

Thanks for the replies, guys. :D Really speedy response. I was looking into the 5th builder now, another $10 won't really hurt so I'll probably do it soon-ish. I'm a little worried about setting up my base defense, I still need to add the anti-air in. I completely forgot about that. >_< I'll probably hold off until I rank my TH up again so I'll have more walls. I was iffy on the collectors upgrading, also, because I heard it was sorta useless at higher levels. Well not useless, but not very effective.

On a side note, any tips for a raiding army? I use 3 wallbreakers, 5 giants, and the rest goblins (About 30 or so). Is that too expensive? Or too slow? Love some advice on that as well :D

Depending on your army camp size you should probably use 5 wall breakers to make sure you get in a base the giants are good but I prefer archers goblins are weaker and have the brains the size of walnuts;) go with archers!!

if you are close, you will be fine up until 7 to 8 and up as was mentioned but its a great habit to get in because you'll be we'll prepared as you have all these new goodies and upgrades to get!

The one thing i would caution is don't fall behind on walls. Mines and collectors not a big deal if you raid a bit but walls will start to add up. You'll have more pieces AND more levels. Some people don't pay that much attention to walls until its such a massive project they are overwhelmed. With four builders you can make it happen and you'll be the envy of all TH 5's ;)

until th7 just upgrade walls and buildings until the walls are maxed. above th7 max everything. the extra wall levels over your piers is a godsend

Like MXA said, it is good to be on a game forum as a beginner. But I mean I would get all my walls to at least level 2 before moving on. Just leave one or two defenses or structures like a cannon or a few walls before upgrading so you have a place to dump some gold during the upgrade process so it doesn't get stolen. As for the collectors, I wouldn't worry about them, since for most people the passive income from there is only about 10% of your total daily income; the other 90% coming from raids. So I would just keep the elixir collectors at the same level as your TH and the gold collectors about 1-2 levels higher.
