Defending loot in the 30% threshold era
So with the introduction of the 30% threshold to get a shield, some questions have been raised as to what this means for farmers.
From what I've read/thought about, most of the potential issues seem to revolve around the possible negative implications of having a good base design. Namely, if a base design is good enough to limit damage to under 30% and ~2 storages, that base is effectively no better (and possibly worse) at protecting loot after 3-4 non-shield attacks than a crappy base design that allows for a large amount of damage on the first attack.
So given this issue, what can be done to limit the loss of loot?
It seems like there are a few different strategies to employ:
* Design a base that gives up 30% of the base relatively easily to an all out attack, but preferably not much more than half the storages. I imagine there is the potential for base designs that are designed into two distinct halves, with a difficult to cross middle section.
* Use a teaser base. Teaser bases may have more farming potential in this new era, especially since trap reload costs will be reduced. Rely on dumb attackers to quickly give you a shield and not lose too much loot in the process.
* Use two bases. For those who log on/off frequently to raid (i.e. me), a well designed base that protects all the resources would be nice to have in-between raids. When a raid session is up, it makes sense to switch to a more poorly designed base or a teaser base that entices an all out attack quickly before my collectors build up too much loot and attract multiple all out attacks.
* Stick with a good base design. It's possible that the worry about multiple attacks is much ado about nothing. Maybe a good base won't lose much more loot on average than employing one of the above strategies. I will say though that the semi-recent all out attacks on my base that I can recall never achieved more than 30% damage, leading me to believe that sticking with a good base only will not be the best course of action.
I'm sure other potential strategies will come about after the update is released but right now I'm thinking the two base strategy may be the way to go for me personally. Of course, I'm sure purposely swapping back and forth from a good design to a crappier design to gain a shield wasn't supercell's intention, but farmers are going to come up with ways to combat their inelegant solution to TH sniping.
