Why does Trophies matter all of the sudden?

Most of the update is geared towards defending your base, gaining trophies and losing loot. I predict the next couple of sneak peeks will conclude things we already knew about, but getting milked by supercell for additional time. (TH11, the wizard hero, eagle defense)

The point of the matter is - what is the point to getting to higher leagues now? Before - the answer was simple; TH snipes for extra loot.

We all know that loot up in these leagues is scarce, with plenty of people dumping there loot into walls. Now, there will be NO economy added to the game stage up there, even though there are more targets, more people will be behind a "shield" and able to attack.

What is the point of going up that high for an irrelevant number, when one can sit in bronze/silver/gold and do collector raids off dead bases.

This is light criticism, but I think Supercell has to work on ways to make these higher leagues more inviting for players to reach. I know many players in my clan that haven't left silver league in TWO years. This isn't a lot, most wanted gems and did that part. But after that, they immediately drop.

I posted the defense bonus thread, I am also posting this thread. But supercell, you need to take advantage of this system you are underutilizing, and you can do wonderful additions to make higher leagues worthwhile, because right now, barely any players are bothering doing this even with your changes to the trophy system.

Because pushers spend the most in this game. It's all about money. Sad, but true.

First, trophies only matter if you want them to matter. This update has no effect on that. You can defend your base to keep loot or trophies or both. It's your choice.

Second, the loot isn't so bad in the higher leagues (at least up to champs), and IMO the bonus more than makes up for it. We'll have to see how having to defend affects that, but I expect the loot situation to improve most in the higher leagues after the update, so I'm optimistic.

This is wrong by many things
First, Your Right all we have seen is defensive stuff. but There also have been Attacking and Offensive stuff (Such as DB lvl 8) But we Can gain plenty of loot by attacking by a few things (Inactive bases) Also it's not like when they raid they will take ALL of your loot there is still a percent on which how much they can take.

I'm not sure because my friends who are near max TH10 from Titan are already decided to drop down to at least champions to find easier bases to sustain their progress. Our TH10 champions are dropping to masters and seeing what happens there naturally. At least one of my acc is dropping to gold or crystal to compete for the collector bases. So it seems overall the incentive is actually to drop trophies..? Except maybe those very competitive players/gemmers who want to stay at the very top and look cool.

All legend league means is you probably paid a lot of money or time.. It is not really a testament to skill. TH8's in Titan is something else.

But what do trophies give? Acknowledgement, but that isn't going to make people take advantage of the system in place that's coming.

Just think about it, casual players will be able to push higher then before, but this idea isn't fun for most to sit there nexting for the perfect base. Most would rather build their base slowly.

Just my two cents. If supercell wants to go in this direction im fine but it needs a better system to use.

It's completely true that loot incentive for being higher is actually being drastically reduced. Trophies will matter even less than they did before.

You go to legend or Titan and tell me it isn't a testament of skill. th8s in champ are just snipers galore and the new system will send them back down

supercell asked for community feedback, and I am sharing my thoughts. I'm glad we can post in a rational, clear voice, unlike many other threads :)

League perks sound like an EXCELLENT idea. People do not want to wait for hours for their army composition for a chance at the storages attacking max TH10s. Even in war conditions, 50% destruction 2 star is considered a success!

Why should SC care if players want trophies or not, and why should they entice players to gain trophies? SC already awards players in higher leagues with loot bonuses. At least part of that is likely because it costs more to compete at the higher levels. Beyond that, why should they care?

Exactly. I've been to Champs for the gems. Loot was awful and will get worse with them taking snipe loot out of the system, lower league bonuses (most attacks are probably under 70%) and higher army costs. Unless they increase the bonus by 2 to 3 times the "significant" increase I will stay in Silver.

because attacks are going to cost more now, and the only way to recover to the cost of your troops will be to cover them with the bonus, the loot you earn from raiding will go towards your upgrades.


available loot will get better from raiding, since more people will be in the pool with high loot offers. However overall loot in your storage.. I donnu maybe it will be easier, maybe it will be harder. I personally already always do full attacks and attack like once an hour w/proper trooops (helps me work on my war attacks) but if I see I snipe while searching for 200-300k storage I definitely nab it. I'm guessing I get around 500k a day or so from snipes, and 3m a day or so from storage/collectors. If the offers become that much better (ie seeing 400-500k storages) then I'll be way ahead, but if it stays the same I'll be short about 500k a day not including how much more frequently I will get hit since I won't be getting sniped.

Your troops won't cost more, you can still barch. Dead bases will still be dead and players will always quit. There will always be collector bases. There is reason to make bigger armies, but I think a simple giant/healer/gob army will still be efficient for most storage bases.

As with the bonus to league ratio, and now progressive scale from 0-70% granting loot, a TH10 offers little chance (the CASUAL player, they're claiming to help) to take a fully maxed Th10 at Champion One or Higher and get 70% for the full league bonus.

This simply will not happen.

Daz, you continue to post well written material. I seem to agree with almost everything you write. You share my thoughts, only in a much more correct, well articulated, and intelligent manner.

I suppose trophies have always mattered, but the current system allowed people to bend the rules Super Cell wanted. One thing I'm excited about is goblins targeting the town hall.

This. Shields now go to everyone in higher leagues with their TH out. Soon more rich bases will be shielded because people wont risk a war army on somebody offering little loot.

Maybe the competition for trophies does that, but not extra rewards. If people care about trophies, then they will compete for them, if not then they wont. Why would you provide extra perks to get people to do something that they don't want to do?

This goes hand in hand with eliminating th snipes in order to keep the balance fplant. They said this was direction they wanted to go, to make defense matter. You cannot do that by doing nothing.

Trophies matter less then ever before because they removed one of the main reasons for moving up.

Most snipers will go back to barching dead bases and premmie bases in Silver/Gold.

No it doesn't. TH sniping was a loophole that they plugged so that everyone would have to defend. There is no requirement to defend, and you might defend to protect trophies or to protect loot. They just wanted to eliminate the ability to trade a small amount of trophies for not losing any significant loot.

Exactly. The 70% mark needs to be lowered and/or triple the bonuses or it will be a ghost town at the top. No one who wants loot will go there.

It comes back to the original intent of the game, much of what we have read and heard about this coming update is getting back to the core intentions of clash of clans.

To attack when you can [allowing attacks through shields]
Attack bases in their true form [by making the hall a high loot target players will protect it]
And want to win on defence. [again want to protect the hall and now have much lower re-arm costs]

All of these things support the intent of the game.

However, the missing link is making players want to have a high trophy count; which I also believe is the original intent of the game. I still believe loot conditions will remain the best in gold/silver leagues due to cost benefit.

To make cost benefit clear. That's loot gained vs cost/time of troops required.

While league bonuses are higher up north, it's quite clear that isn't enough to produce a greater cost benefit due to the sheer volume of powerful players in Gold/Silver.

You could also argue cost benefit actually got better in Gold/Silver because there are no high value snipes in the high leagues anymore either.

I am hanging out in masters to see if they add any gem bonus for Titans league.
If they do I will push up to get them.
If they don't, here I come gold and silver! :)

One thing you can't really judge cost benefit is greatest where all the players are. There cost benefit at higher leagues is very very immense. But the cost to be able to achieve that cost benefit is a lot of activity to not only farm but maintain trophies and risk your resources. Because when you are in a sea of highly developed and competent attackers, it usually doesn't matter where you TH is if you have loot.

You can infer the type of leagues someone is based on your preference, base strength, and activity levels. Also, since people are starting at the bottom, they may not have experienced the ridiculous cost benefit ratio of high league bonuses for no time or resources as a complete bonus to normal raiding.

Higher lvl TH at the bottom are sponging all the resources around them while a higher percentage of their peers don't have the strength to attack them back for the resources, which is currently happening when a TH10 is staying in silver for example.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that point. I haven't heard them say anything about wanting to encourage anyone to play in higher league, and I believe that trophy pushing is just one aspect of the game, and most people don't care about that aspect. I believe your suggestions would only encourage those that would rather farm to move up to higher leagues by making it more profitable in the higher leagues, but they would still be farming, just with more trophies.

The only ones who TRULY care about trophies are those at the top or those trying to reach the top, or those that push just to reach some arbitrary number. Otherwise, we all choose our trophy range to match the way we like to farm. Your suggestions would not change that, they would just make higher trophy ranges more palatable to farm in.

I like it in champs, which I think most would consider a higher league, but I still drop trophies to stay in the range that is fun for me. Even those like me that like to live in the higher trophy ranges don't really care about trophies other than to stay in the range that we want to stay in.

As you can tell, they're eliminating farming methods to the game, and also encouraging defense. (no more town hall snipes)

So fplant, if these aren't the original intention of the game (as they suggested they're getting back to basics), why introduce them at all?

The fundamental theme here that we're seeing is that they want to encourage better attacks, and higher level gameplay strategy with defense.

This would suggest that they want to make trophies relevant, but for most it is too time consuming. If you're following along this far, great, youre understanding the concept about where supercell is going with the game.

This is just another piece of the puzzle we have to solve through Dev action and community feedback.

1. Collector raiding may be boring for some, but waiting two and a half hours for spells is certainly boring for many too. Also, training a full war army vastly increases the amount of DE you need actually make a profit - in my case my DE cost for my war army is 3300, so I am trying to 70% a base just to train more troops.

2. A lot of people who play this game couldn't care less about pushing to Legends and let's be honest, most of us can't afford to do it. It also is impossible to do if you want to actually save loot for an upgrade.

3. It does sound good in theory, but those 80% of bases you mention are still going to be hidden behind a shield, it will just take them a bit longer to get the shield and then a lot will simply gem an extended shield anyway.

Lets hope there are a lot more fixes done before this update drops besides the welcome reduction in the already overpriced re-arming costs.

Why would you suggest that? Again, they simply eliminated a loophole that was allowing a high percentage of the players to not defend at all. Now we will all have to defend. That's it. Show me one place where they say that they want to encourage more to trophy push?

I think you're reading into this more than what they're saying.

Listen to the interview with Jonas, this update is building block to longevity to clash of clans. You can read between the lines during that interview on where the game is going, I don't think youre listening well enough.

When I was a new TH9, I was in gold farming for my upgrades, the sweet spot.

After a couple of days, Yes, DAYS, it dried up. Nexting became a pain. Decided to move down to Silver. Again, I hit the sweet spot. Same thing, it dried up in a matter of days.

This happened on a daily basis, jumping up and down the leagues looking for that sweet spot. Even reached Masters III just looking for Loot.

Realizing how good the "Loot bonus" was in Masters, I stayed there until my TH9 had max defences except heroes and walls, which I later did (lego walls w/ a few zap here and there).

I decided to head on to Champs III to farm for the loot bonus. Not collectors, not storages, but for the loot bonus itself. Then I got greedy. I wanted more. Decided to head on to Champs I. On my road to Champs II, I was devasted. Cup offers were now 1-3 mostly 1s, 3 cups was a FIND. I thought to myself, "this is gonna take me months to get me to Champs I !!". From there I stopped climbing.

I'm happily in Masters II now, farming for my TH10 defences, slowly but steadily.

With the new coming update and adjustments on the cup system, you bet your a$$ I'm gonna hit that road once again.(no offence)

So to answer your question reasonably short, Yes Trophies Does Matter. No more jumping up and down in the lower leagues. No more searching for that sweet spot. Just head on up!

Good luck 70% for the full bonus up there bud. I made it to 3600 and against Max heros which is commonplace I was in the 50-60% range. You will not get the full bonus now, which is cause for adding additional features.

Not for us TH9s! That's why I'm staying TH9. Wars are funner, and all those max TH10s will upgrade to TH11, so it should make it easier on TH9s.

That is, unless they release some new dark troops for TH10, then I might make the jump.

- really, you've obviously never attacked a max 10 with barch. Taking all their loot and 50% is a rush like no other. Clan wars don't come close.
- absolutely. And if I'd spent 10k in gems I'm sure I would be able to.
- please don't regurgitate false information. One Sunday morning in one league there were 5 attacks, 4 happened to be snipes, meaningless...

Very much agree with op, other then getting the gem bounus there is no point to trophy pushing.
I have 3 accounts 7, 9 and 10
I never go above 1400, how would it help me progress in the game and do better in wars?
SC needs to thin out trophy pushing with zones and give better perks so trophy pushing helps a player biuld their base.

The only reason why ppl have loot in their storages is that they have been able to accumulate it under shield. Now they will get a full attack every 12h, only long enough for collectors/mines/ drills to make up the difference they lost.
you get those high storages because you are probably the 8th person to hit them after 7 snipes.
smart players are going to boost, dump everything into walls & then give ppl nothing to take.
many ppl are saying that's what they will do, just tap & war & take the losses, others are quitting.
The economy will not be the same. Don't base anything on past results.

I'm a TH10 now and plenty of TH8's still show up in my searches. Just as plenty of TH9's will once I go to 11. I may get less available loot from a TH9, but I won't need an expensive army to do it. They may even become the exact bases I will be looking for.

I really hope things are not going to be as bad as a lot of us expect them to be with what has been released so far.

I'm a TH10 now and plenty of TH8's still show up in my searches. Just as plenty of TH9's will once I go to 11. I may get less available loot from a TH9, but I won't need an expensive army to do it. They may even become the exact bases I will be looking for.

I really hope things are not going to be as bad as a lot of us expect them to be with what has been released so far.

What league are you in? It probably happens more in the lower leagues, but I think I've maybe seen 1 or 2 TH7s in all the months I've been in masters and champs as a TH9.

It's fairly obvious that Supercell intend for players to be in the highest league their base strength and attacking skill will allow. They don't want players fishing in leagues below their strength level and picking on weaker players.

League Bonuses were introduced to incentivise players to push to their potential, but Supercell failed to address the flaws that arise in the highest leagues and the bonuses were also exploited with the sniping mechanic.

The upcoming update will introduce features that may end up frustrating players who don't play in their "rightful" league. It seems more stick than carrot on face value, but time will tell how it plays out.

I generally sit in Crystal 2, but after the update, gold may be a more viable option to try and find more TH9's so I can actually make a profit on that sweet, sweet DE. There will be zero profit hitting TH10's & 11's at this stage unless they fix it before the update drops.

Edit: a nice TH9 in Masters & Champs will be a very juicy prospect after the update if they only need part of their army to wipe it.

The game now needs to take the extra step of giving incentive to players to want to be in high leagues. There is where we need league perks. Faster training time, higher rate of production of collectors etc in higher leagues. Also give a defensive bonus if you win and the attacker uses more than 1/3 troops. Higher bonus in higher leagues.

Make players want to have more trophies.

Loot helps you build your base, not trophies, and if you can get similar levels of loot in a low league then why go higher? - this is why trophies never mattered.

I'm not saying there isn't any skill in trophy pushing, but it has almost always only been possible by spending money or lots of time playing (certainly reaching the high end of the leaderboard) - this is again why lots of people never bothered with them

I are in agreeance; I tried a myriad of army comps with both my TH10 and 9 accounts and unless I uses a high cost army then it is not worth the loot bonus not to mention the TTT...

Great post and I only disagree with the carrot v stick - SC know that good players will adapt and weak players will leave but then they always do once the level of gameplay gets "too hard". Hence the abandoned bases in S and G leagues....

Trophy does not matter. With new matchmaking algorithm, you can attack full base at any given league, the difference is that at higher league you get better loot bonus. Now that loot bonus is more troublesome to attain and th snipe is gone, keeping loot will be more difficult, especially at higher league. I don't see any point in going to any higher league.

Nailed it.

I've pointed this out since I started playing but the league game is garbage. Your using CW army's to bust easiest possible bases for max loot. Issue is the resources and time it takes isn't rewarded enough to cover lost time and resources. You end up net zero. It's a basic game of boar slaying with no actual reward but a stupid stamp. Only reason I play this game is because I enjoy the social aspect of the clan and Clan Wars.

It ain't working out if you ask me
