You could snipe your way up to masters if you want. But no skill in that, sniping will be over soon.
If you just want the achievement and easiest way snipe thoose th 's
i'm also looking to become a better attacker with hogs, so sniping is out of the question!
would it be worth the effort for the 1k gems?
I suppose. But your probably better of finding a 2 hour block, boost barracks and BK and just barch your way up. Basically you just want to attack more often than you get hit. It's easier than trying to build 2-3 star worthy armies and try to overcome the losses you'll take. You'll still find snipes and should be able to 50% your way up.Quote:

It is possible and I did it with my second account. I have reached maxed TH8 with that account and do not plan to take it forward. My primary account is mid TH9 now.

My ultimate aim is to reach champ league with 3200+ trophies. And, I don't do just TH sniping to reach there. If I get a base with TH outside, I offcourse take it but I don't hunt for those bases only. So, not cribbing much about the upcoming upgrade. I use the following army to attack mostly-

I scout for bases which offer more than 30 trophies. It can be TH8 (which I find very rarely) and mostly TH9. I look for bases where town hall is not exactly in the center but bit on edge where I can use 4 EQ to break open inside walls and use wall breakers to open outermost wall. Then its standard GoWiPe. Main idea is to reach to town hall and take it down. Couple of extra archers sometimes help to clean outside unprotected building to make it 50%.

About defense, outside town hall really helps and gives me 12 hr shield. At masters league, I find 7 of 10 attacks taking out just town hall instead of destroying my base saving my trophies with just one star loss. I do have teslas and traps around town hall but they don't help much. Once in 50 attacks someone falls in that trap loosing attack and giving me trophies. This is going to change with next update. I will receive lot more full attacks than just TH snipes and may be, I will not be able to continue my progress... not sure ... lets see how it goes :)

I don't spend much time with this account though. I attack twice, sometimes thrice a day and do 2 defenses giving me 12+12 hrs of shield. Since I keep a target of 20+ trophies per attack, even if I loose 8-10 trophies per defense, I make progress of around 10-15 trophies on an average per day. Sometimes there are bad days where I loose attacks or get hit by lower league TH9 or TH10 loosing 40-50 cups in a single day.
The biggest advantage I have here is no care for resources. I am already maxed with all defense and offense. But sometimes the available loot attracts attackers to get inside my base stealing and me loosing more than one star :(

As you mentioned lvl 4 hogs, I use hogs a lot at TH8 as well as TH9. And I am very good at 3 starring with them most of the times. But for trophy push using TH8, I don't think they will help you much. With lvl 4 hogs without 4th spell and without AQ, you cant take out TH9 bases. They are not sufficient to win against defending AQ and x-bows so you are limited to hitting TH8 bases only. And unfortunately, there are not many TH8s pushing beyond crystal league so you wont find bases offering 10+ trophies. So, it i must you can hit TH9 or TH10 and to do that GoWiPe variants is the most preferred option. I also tried with drags or drag + loon combos but they are not very effective :(
