I seem to be continually cutting down olive trees, such a waste. Could they not be turned into logs which could then be used to fuel some other types of machinery? Another idea would be to use the olive wood to make items for the gift shop.

Basically told hayday is a resource management game and grow enough to only cut down. But many have quit because the game is no longer enjoyable because of waste.
It is quite a good idea to use the cut down wood in some way, rather than that it just vanishes. I only have an issue with similar ideas when they turn into moans from those who haven't got the hang of managing their resources with axes and saws. Maybe some kind of wood turning bench or lathe to make wooden things?
I know SC would rather that people pay to have conveniences like Tom and extra WOF spins. Maybe they'd go for a recycling service, where you could pay coins or diamonds to have your dead trees harvested and "recycled" without spending axes or saws.
It would be nice if there were a machine that used the cut trees and plants. But only after they have been cut.
Perhaps the drop rate should then also be adjusted on the machine. It would be silly if we would have some kind of machine that doesn't work half the time because you can't get enough trees because your axes are gone :)
As you say wood is a "wasted" or neglected resource in the game, all those trees that are cut down anyway could be turned into logs sent to a new production building Sawmill, there they are turned into "wood" (as to not confuse with the barn upgrade part plank), later used in a wood shop to make either decorations or sellable carpentry.
Somewhat like the idea to use wood after cut down. Would this encourage people to cut down more trees? This would increase need for axes and saws. Could make things worse for those who cannot get the nack of resource management now.
s long as the quality of "log" provided by cutting down trees are balanced with the requirements for production, this should not be a problem. Consider all the trees being cut down, from lemon to apple, if the demand for woodproducts is in range with the demand for fruit products, it won't cause an imbalance in the need for saws.
The cost of the trees have to be increased slightly to compensate for the added value of the end products. Apart from that I see no gamemechanical or coding obstacles
The only obstacle I might see, if it this new wood product would need to be stored in the barn. Even as large as my barn has become, I do not need another item filling it up before it can be used in the machine, nor even the product from the wood filling up my barn.
