I have a really premature TH8 and I have th4 defenses, should I reset?

have you spent any money on getting to where you are now? how many builders do you have?

Its not the end of the world at th8. If you've spent any money then i would just carry on, I was the same at th8 and my th9 is 8 days away and my base is almost maxed (15ish walls and elixir collectors are left).

If you can, buy the 5th builder if you dont already have it. Tis will benefit you in the long run. Concentrate on maxing your mortars and your army camps first. If your lab is not maxed, do that first instead. When your lab is maxed, concentrate on maxing the first five troops; barb,arch,gobs,giants,wallbreakers. Upgrade which ever you use most of first.

With lvl 5 troops i am easily able to get 250k gold each raid, so affording the upgrades shouldn't be a problem. If your unfamiliar with raiding, check out some threads on here or search for it on youtube. stay between 1000-1300 trophies for the best gold raids. 2500-3500 is great for lv5 troops at th8!

Yea you're probably pretty premature. But if you have 4-5 builders I'd just stick with it. Max out lab and army camps first. Raiding will be the best way to make cash. And with low lvl buildings you'll always be able to spend the cash you raid that way you are an undesirable target except for trophies. So keep your th outside for free shields. Just farm, farm, farm and you'll be fine :).

Yup, just get your collectors up quickly because that'll help the most.
