TH 8.5 moving up (TH8.5+)

Having an 8.5 TH with maxed non defensive buildings, I'm starting to plan ahead and see how I could slowly move to TH9 when time comes. For now, I'm still improving my troops to have a better army. Here's my question....

What would be best profitable been in a war clan ? I would like to make small improvements to my 8.5 without having the weight of an TH9. So is it better to max out the already existing defenses of the TH8 to the max level of the TH9... or to start building the new defenses of the TH9 (the x-bow been last).

My objective is to weight as less as possible in wars and to move slowly to TH9. Topping TH8 defenses to a TH9 level could be a TH8.5 Plus (8.5+) ?

Well, the whole theory behind the strategy is to work on your offense while completing minimal defensive upgrades. I am not going to type out the entire design of your th9 journey but here is a little bit of what to do at the start:

1.) Upgrade and build all new traps to th8 level (DO NOT BUILD ANY NEW DEFENSIVE BUILDINGS)
2.) Upgrade your cc, laboratory, spell factory and dark spell factory
3.) Get AQ to 5 asap
4.) My personal order of lab upgrades are as follows: (I use hogs a lot, specifically GoHo so thats why I chose to upgrade Hogs/Golems near the beginning. You might want to do Heal after Golems but it's totally up to you.)
1. Hogs to 5
2. Loons to 6
3. Golems to 3
4. Jump to 2
5. Giants to 6
6. Heal to 6
7. Golems to 4 (in progress right now)
5.) DE Drills to 6 (It's a grind but well worth it)
6.) Dark Barracks to 6
7.) Continue working on getting the AQ to 10
8.) WALLS WALLS WALLS - as many legos as you can make!

Thank you for giving an answer.

I'm already well into 8.5 as I have finished all non defensive building upgrades; lab, army, traps, spell factory+dark, cc, de storage and drills. All done. Walls are skulls with 100 legos.

AQ is already 13, same as king... pushing them 15 asap.

Army research is getting there; lava 2, loons 6, drag 4... as I air attack often.
Will work on ground soon; hogs 6, golem 3, jump 2 etc.

My question was towards moving up from an 8.5 to slowly fulfill the th9.
I will start moving forward when research time left on army will be near the projected build time of defensive buildings taking in account hero upgrade.

Just wondering if anyone had tried maxing existing th8 buildings to an th9 max level and see the impact on their weight. That vs building new defenses and bringing them to th8 max level.

if you have hogs level 5, 10/10+ heroes, golem lvl 3 - plant the xbows

8.5 is just a strategy to help you out and ensure that you don't get a severe mismatch while waiting for the lab ups to finish.

i brought my 4th ad to th8 level first, then i build the rest of my extra th9 defenses up to th8 levels.
once that was done, i maxed teslas, i dont think they carry a ton of weight, they dont take up much space, and they hurt pekkas bad, which you will see quite a lot of.

After that, i put down my level 1 x-bows

now i am working up my archer towers th th9 levels, then probably my wizzies towers, and eventually cannons. i may just leave the mortars at th8, i dont really see the need to move them up

Did you see a significant move upwards in clan war matching ?

Did anyone tried maxing out existing buildings to th9 levels before adding the new defense ? Just to compare the difference in both strategies.

I still have a few research to do before moving up, probably hogs and golem.

While I agree with doing mortars near the end of the upgrades they are pretty effective against Witches which you start to see more and more against your base in CWs as you move up in TH9.

I recommend air defenses all to six and second sweeper to 3 first (both have low weighting).
Then teslas. Four level seven teslas will wreck some pekkas!
The teslas at level 7 are your highest DPS point defense in your base at Th9.
They take forever to upgrade but do not be lured by easy cheap cannon or mortar upgrades - do the teslas!
Then archer towers for range then cannons.
Then splash, mortars before wiz.
Xbows last due to highest weighting and low initial DPS.

If you are consistently three starring your mirror, continue a slow, deliberate upgrading of defenses along that path. If you start to repeatedly falter with your offense, continue research and wall/hero work until you are doing well again.

Hey, do you recommend to immediately build the new AD and Tesla or wait until your lab, army camps, spell are done first?
Also is it okay to build new gold and elixir storage immediately right?

I'd just build stuff and don't drop xbows til you have 15/15 heroes and some good troops. All the other defenses done to TH8 level(with no xbows)and some to 9(teslas, etc) only put you up to about 62000, a maxed TH8 is 55000.

An extra AD to TH8 level, a sweeper and a queen take you to about 58000.

I wouldn't worry about it too much and just have fun. I finally dropped my bows the other day after about 4.5mo and my heroes are going 18AQ/23BK

You gotta have 4 air defenses or you're basically worthless in a smaller clan war.

lab and spells absolutely come first, then camps, but you can incorporate the ad in as well, so a th8 cant dragon you
you can put down storages, but i dont see the need

I'll probably slowly move up. Once I'll reach 15/15 heroes, I'll put my AD, sweeper and tesla to move them to TH8 levels. Then probably move my teslas followed by AD to TH9 levels. I'll get the rest of new defenses (except x-bow) up to max. By then I should be a max TH9 without x-bow. I'll put them down after.

It's a work in progress, so I might change my mind and put the x-box a bit earlier but it shouldn't be before all new defenses being up to TH8 level.

So far the matching is good... our clan is not unbalanced overall and half of the time I get a TH8 (3*) or mid-low TH9 (mostly 2* for now and a few 3*). Defense wise... mostly 2* and a few 3* (cleanups). We war mostly at 35vs35.
