Forum "Like" Button

Hello I was thinking that it would be a good idea to implement a like button for forum posts that way people will be notified when they agree with you. For example: this thread. If people "like" my idea, then instead of having people say: "I agree 10 chars", they can just like it and move along.

SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON!!!

We used to have something similar to this which was the "Rating System" and it was abused very frequently. This idea would also be abused as well.

Because there are people who will put down whatever for the fun of it. There will be people who don't like you and but a :thumbsdown: just to. Other people coul easily create multiple accounts and spam :thumbsup: or :thumbsdown: Lets leave the support or dislike to ideas in the comments. You can just created a poll to have people vote if they support the idea or not.

I don't recall talking about a dislike button in the first place. I didn't mention it cause of dislike trolls. Also I find it pointless to waste your time making multiple accounts just to like someone else's post/your own because if you really want to see how people support your idea, why spam likes?

Ah, I did not know you were suggesting just a like button. Seems a little fishy. Why not a dislike button? It would be good to know how many people dislike the idea as well. That is why I stated negatives for that.

I have seen a like button being used on other forums however I saw little use of it...IMHO it'd be more of a waste based on this.

If people "like" the idea, not much more to add is there? But if people dislike the idea, then they have feedback to make the idea either better or point out how it won't work. For example: I have to choose between two button down shirts. One is blue the other is dark green. I ask my friends for feedback, cause they know me very well. Sherry says: I would love to see you in the blue shirt, it matches your eye color. Not much more to add.. so "Like" button: enough said. Jake on the other hand, disagrees. "I don't think it will fit well with your red flip flops, put dressing shoes on and you will fit better in the dark green shirt. No point leaving a dislike button if they aren't gonna give feedback. Now, after hearing feedback from both friends, I can make an easier decision.

Ah, I understand your point of view now. This would help with useless bumps that say " I like your idea." I still have an issue with not having a dislike button though. Lets say an idea seems extremely popular. It has tons of dislikes but throughout the whole thread it contains a large amount of people disliking the idea. How can we determine the ratio of people who like and dislike the idea? It may seem like a good idea when a person first looks at an idea because it has a lot of likes but it may contain a lot of downsides through the thread in the comments itself.
