Permanent banning of players from a clan.

I have scanned the sticky's and dont see this idea being ruled out.

I have to believe this has been asked for already so - apologies in advance.

I would just like the ability for clan leaders to have a (perhaps small) list of players who keep coming back banned by their player number.

Just to clarify some of the objections: I see this as a clan leader ONLY function that is permanent in the sense that the clan leader may leave the ban on as long as they wish - I did not mean to suggest that it would be irreversible.

I am NOT suggesting that "Ban" be a menu item off of the chat window or even off of a users id on the clan page - bury it in the settings screen away from day to day play where it is an option of last resort.

I have actually supported this idea for quite a while. There can be trolls out there who will just annoy a clan till the end of time for their own amusement. I actually read a thread here in this sub forum talking about someone trolling their clan. This idea is a :thumbsup:

The only issue I see here is leader's abusing this power but hey there are plenty of more clans out there.

I have seen it a few times. Its quite common for a popular "small" idea too become buried under the "big" ideas.

I really like the idea!

You are already banned for 24 hours from a clan if you were kicked.

Honestly, its not a bad idea just not sure if it's worthy having a complete blacklist feature. Perhaps just an expansion on the current system in tiers. Its already in the programming that if you get kicked, you're banned for 24 hours. Expand on that by saying 2nd kick is 48 hours, 3rd is 7 days, every kick after that is 2 weeks. Anyone still wanting to troll a clan should get bored rather quickly.

I'm not sure how a leader can abuse this. If a leader doesn't want a player in a clan then it's his prerogative to remove them from the clan. If they make it permanent then that is their right as well. No player has a given right to stay in a clan where they are not welcome...unless they are the leader.

I think a blacklist would help clans tremendously. In one of my clans we have 2 or 3 former members who still sporadically request with foul language and insults in their request (they know they are not going to be accepted). It's quite annoying and the only thing we can really do about it is to report the players which, at this point, only results in Supercell telling us to turn our chat filer on. Of course, they don't mention how awful their chat filter actually is.

some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s start stalking when we refuse to give them co-loader or something. they send join request with abusive words etc.
so banning user permanent is good idea. if not atleast 1 month ban . just 24hrs ban not enough.

One problem is that they don't stay long enough to be kicked. They post a screed and run.

I'm familiar with the OP, he's not concerned about hit and run spammers. This would be an acceptable feature that would help some problems. Especially the problem the OP is facing.

Although I do feel the pain of the other poster.

I think many people have requested the ability to kick from the clan chat window (which would solve that nonsense and kick in the beloved 24 hour ban)

The people that hop and donate giants for their friend in need accomplishment are super annoying. Many of them bookmark your clan and come back again and again - especially if you have a highly active clan and they know it.

Setting the clan to "Invite Only" is the only way to control that but if you are just starting your clan and desperately need members "Anyone Can Join" is really your only option and you are stuck with those jerks.

Unfortunately the 24 hour ban does not apply in our case where the troll is invited by another account that he has in the clan.

BTW: we figured out who the other account is and kicked him out... but he will be back... I have no doubt.

Thats true if you are dealing with a 12 year old with a 20 minute attention span. (which in fairness represents about 98 percent of the trolls out there).

There is never really a reason to set a clan as 'anyone can join'. Ever. You may have a bunch of people join, but they will quit eventually. 'Invite only' says you are serious about wanting to build a good clan, 'closed' is even better. If you are a th6 or 7 and this isn't working for you, that is because at th6 and 7 you don't have enough experience and shouldn't be starting a clan anyways...

Well I agree that anyone can join is a waste land. But I have found it useful in the beginning stages of a clan just to put butts in the seats.

Serious players don't tend to join clans with under 20 members.... so until you get there "Anyone Can Join" with zero requirements is the fastest way to reach that critical mass.

I have also used it at times when my clan loses a fair number of people and I want to fill it fast... of course I always regret it when I do.

If the leader is over lvl100-120 or so, they would have no problems pulling serious in members even if there is only 1 person in the clan. There is a reason people don't want to join clans with th6/7/8s as leaders. They generally don't make good leaders. Want to recruits? Get to th10, don't rush, then push to masters. Then go to global. The good ones will find you. Don't take just anyone.

Sure I can slug it out based on the level of my ID for 1-4 weeks... been there done that.

Filling the clan with noobs in seconds and then kicking my way to a good clan is how I roll.

Personally a black list and or ban button would be lovely for Co leaders and leaders .

Na, the permanent ban is nothing. Just reject it and its only 1 click to do it. Even if they keep joining after day and day, they will eventually give up. Bad Idea in my opinion.

Even with "invite only" we are annoyingly spammed non stop by requests to join. Not only do we need a very simple "blacklist" of banned players, we need a similar "whitelist" so that we can live "closed" but allow trusted people to come and go. NB. Inviting someone when they leave doesn't work if they leave to visit another clan.

That works great until you have a stalker that isn't a 12 year old with 20 minute attention span.

Get a guy in your clan with a real axe to grind that plants fake accounts in your clan and then invites his trolling account every day so you cant keep him out - see how you feel about a ban then.

Why too severe? If its your clan and you really don't want that person in... ever?

Are there not a million other clans out there that this person could bless with his presence?

A permanent ban would completely solve an awful lot of really nasty stalking and trolling scenarios that Supercell cannot or will not help you with... and really whats the down side? Who is really hurt?

That said... of course I want my thread to remain visible.

I think perma banning is a bit too harsh, although I like Axion's idea.

1. I don't want to see thread after thread about how someone apologized and they need to "unban" them.
2. I don't want to see threads about how some temporary leader banned someone they shouldn't have.
3. Permanent anything probably doesn't make sense in a situation that could be fluid (because you might not always be the leader of that clan).

I would think a 30 day ban would be sufficient for most things.

Well fair enough,

Re: 1 and 2 you are always going to see threads where someone is complaining that someone else in a clan did something they don't like. Kicking is not going to go away so those that are not banned just get kicked and you get the same threads posted.

Finally, the "permanent" ban does not need to be implemented as an irreversible button click. It could simply be a dialog where the clan leader edits player IDs (although the simple button click would be much cleaner to implement and easier on the UI - The total number of bannable players could also be kept short with the oldest dropping off the list too.).

When I weigh the benefit of being able to forever remove the truly bad guys (the Stalkers, Harassers, and Trolls) against the negatives you cite its pretty clear to me which wins...

I have no doubt that there are clans and individuals out there that are forced to shut down clans and rename their player Ids to hide from these people - of course they can still be found.

On the other had I do agree that for 99% of situations 30 days would do the trick and I would be thrilled to have even that... but right now my clan is the in the 1%

I take "permanent" to be "irreversible", otherwise it's not really permanent. I think the idea of a list or something would be fine to suit the purposes requested. Essentially an indefinite ban able to be lifted at any time.

I like the idea of a permanent ban list that only the leader can change. I don't see any reason for co or elder to have access to it.

lol... well we are definitely splitting hairs here... but it is permanent as long as the person who does the banning wants it to be. :)

They already have this feature. Click the clan castle, then click "Clan", then press "Edit". Change the settings so that your clan is closed. Problem solved.

Wrong!

Any Elder can invite through a closed clan and leaving a clan closed prevents people from requesting an invite that you can vet.

A ban is keeps a specific user that you have identified and don't want - out... without affecting the operation of the rest of the clan.

Problem not solved... not at all.

Just my 2 cents....but I don't see SC giving a player the power to ban another player from a clan. It just seems too "absolute" ....similar to the power SC has, which I don't think they want share.

I read your other thread, so I am aware of why you want this feature....just not sure that SC would allow your idea as the solution.

First off I see this as a clan leader only function (not just any member, or even coleader). This idea is for keeping out the really bad guys only. It could also be implemented in such as way that it is reversible by the leader too.

Frankly I think this would eliminate a lot of the severe trolling and ♥♥♥♥ing problems that supercell is [often reluctant] to deal with directly.

Further, I have no doubt they have considered it already, and it has been asked for before. But it appears to neither be on the sticky or the ruled out ideas either.

Yes, I have seen this asked for before, not frequently though.

Don't get me wrong, I believe there should be something implimented to deal with this issue. In the past, I had a similar problem, luckily though, I was able to figure out who the culprit was and kick them from the clan.

I think the idea of it not being permanent, or just a long cool down period would be better. It's just that the word "permanent" is something I believe SC would shy away from; unless they are doing the "permanent" banning. :rolleyes:

Also how would you unban them? Inviting them? Probably.

Depends on how it was implemented in the first place.

If its implemented as a UI page where the leader enters the player IDs - a simple list of currently banned players would be presented and one could delete them.

People are right to point out that "permanent" is a word that concerns a lot of people but my personal opinion is that this really not a huge issue.

If it was a menu where you could select who to ban and possibly urban them I would accept it. But it just seems so.. unfriendly to outright ban a player. Even though in practice it doesn't make a big difference, it would physiologically make some players sad that they are "banned" from their dream clan and it conveys a feeling of hopelessness and doom from joining the clan.

Surely if its come to a player being banned they must of done something fairly major to receive it, so why would you want to unban them.
I've come across a couple of players over time that I've mentally banned from our clan and nothing would change my mind!!!

Andrew... perhaps you have not been the leader of the clan being relentlessly trolled by someone that will not go away... I think if you had... you would be much less concerned about being friendly to them.

There are millions of clans out there to choose from.

This is an idea only to be used in extreme circumstances... 99.999% of the time a kick is all you need to do.

Putting ban on a menu would lead to concerns of people accidentally banning.

It shouldn't be called "permanent banning" but a "clan blacklist". Editable by the leader, maybe by coleaders.

This is not extra power. The leader and co-leaders already have the power to kick, and to kick with an abusive private message.

i have kicked three people, many times, for being abusive trolls. It is not so rare. Each were teenagers, kicked for rudeness of some form, and were not happy because they had friends still in the clan. That kept them returning, to plead to rant or abuse. For months. It only came to an end when their friends left my clan. In terms of protecting children (kids I know in real life), that was a complete failure and is something SC should be obliged to address.

of course the blacklist should be editable. If you can do something, you need to be able to undo it. Finger-press mistakes happen., etc

I've been looking for this for a few hours so I wouldn't post the same request! I really, REALLY want this!

If we can ban players that are abusive (Ask to be in war and don't battle, curse before they ditch you, harass other members before getting kicked, etc...)

Bored people that are not good at the game, tend to troll around making it difficult on everyone else. I understand it will happen regardless, but why can't we protect ourselves from it happening twice from the same troll? That should not be too much to ask!

Perm Ban - I believe it should be a priority.
