TH8 3* Strategy [Works 90% of the Time]

So, I am looking through these recent posts, and seeing a common theme. "How do I 3* this TH8?" The answer is the same for most, if not all, of them.

Troops:
10 level 3 Dragons (Sometimes level 2 Drags work fine, too. However, don't blame me if the attack fails with lvl2 ;) )
CC: 5 level 6 Loons
BK 5+

Spells:
2 Lightning (5+ on Level 6 AD; 4+ on Level 5 AD)
1 EQ
1 Rage

Plan:
Drop 2 Lightning and your EQ on farthest AD from your attacking side. Then, funnel your drags towards the remaining 2 AD's, using the BK to help funnel if necessary. If you don't know how to funnel, look it up. Drop your CC full of loons behind your drags, as soon as the AD's start firing. Use your rage spell on the enemy CC troops. Don't forget to use your King's ability.


That's it. It's really that simple. Only time I can think of when not to use this strategy is when the enemy TH8 has 4 AT's near the farthest AD. Other than that, I'd consider this the go-to strategy for TH8.

Can you please record your next 10 attacks and show you 3* 9 of them please?

I hope these attacks are against upper level/max defense th8s. If not, it takes on much less meaning, as L3 drags do really well against lower level th8s...

And the go-to strat against max/near max TH8s remains hogs, either a straight hog run or goho, regardless of the resurgence of drags via EQ light

Well, I'm a TH9, so that won't work...

Also, any good base will have good DGB positioning, which counters hogs easily. There's really nothing that can be done about a good drag attack at TH8.

And yes, this attack will work on maxed TH8's. Once you get the 3 ADs down, it's pretty much a guaranteed 3*, depending on how many AT's / drags are left.

You say you are th9... Does this mean you don't have any/limited experience with this attack at th8?

And i can assure you that even if you get all ADs down, it is nowhere near a guaranteed 3*.

Lastly, hardly any bases have good DGB location, to say nothing about the fact that one DGB does not necessarily stop a hog run. It isn't like all hogs on the field die immediately...

So basically, because a couple noobs recommend the same strategy on every base, you think everyone should always run this strategy even when people with real TH8s in their wars know the answer on most bases is still hogs? What is the purpose of this thread? And yeah, there is a lot that can be done against a good dragon attack at TH8. I almost never see good double giant bombs on TH8 bases that make them unhoggable, but I see lots of anti dragon TH8s.

10 drags is what I do all the time in war, it works.

This troop composition will work on many TH 8's...but certainly not 9/10 times.

Position of remaining AD's in regard to blocking storage units, air sweep, and Archer tower/Tesla combos can make a huge difference.

Especially if Teslas and Archer Towers are upgraded to max.

Some bases can be attacked this way, many others are hoggable first and foremost.

One Hive, Powerbang gaming, JTJU, and Clash Tutor all have vids on this attack and when to use it.

This strategy is very powerful actually. Dragon attacks are very underrated at th8, even before the zapquake. I have been collecting some data about different th8 attacks for a while now. My wife and both kids are playing clash. They all started at the same time. One kid uses hog attacks only, other kid uses always dragons and my wife uses gowipe only. This has been going on for some while now, long enough for the attacks to show statistical differences. Here are the war stars they all got:

wife (with gowipe): 536 war stars total
older son (with hogs): 588 war stars total
younger son (with dragons): 620 war stars total

Interestingly though, my son that uses hogs gets 3 stars more often than my son with dragons, but when hogs fail they fail in style, and he usually gets 1 stars on failed attacks. My son that uses dragons always gets at least 2 stars, never less than that. And my wife's attack results might be skewed because she always insists on attacking higher than my kids do.

I'm not sure what one is to conclude about that. Early on at TH8, dragons rule. Once AD666 is in the game, one starts pausing. At max (non wall) defense TH8, drags really start to go by the wayside, or at least they should. If you disagree, please record these attacks, for I want to see a series of 3* against max defense TH8s.

It just doesn't work that way. I find the timing of a strong recommendation for an EQ light attack in a recent, different thread and it's failure rather humorous. Some of us pretty much knew it was going to fail, but many people jumped in and said, "Yeah! Go with that attack!" and it failed.

Hogs, be it goho or a straight hog run, seem to be, by far, the most consistent way to 3* max defense TH8s. Our clan does it all the time. And it isn't like we nail all bases the first time out, it's that we simply need to find exactly where the traps are and then they are overwhelmingly dead. Why? Because base construction is just very poor nowadays. Apparently, far too many people not only don't believe in DGB, even when they do, they don't have any clue how to setup a base for them to fire off correctly.

And GoWiPe is a very meh attack at any level (if one is going for 3*). It's very base specific & far too often the, "Duh, I don't know what to do, so I'll GoWiPe it!" attack. I'm still wondering if it isn't better to simply go ~7 Pekka (with supporting troops to deal with CC and such), but...
