My perception is SC changed the weight of King/Queen a lot, and the weight of troop levels as well. The defense buildings are very light weighted. So the .5 strategy will end up hurt ourselves in clan war match. Because we will face an opponent with almost same strong troops and much better defenses.
What do you think?

Defenses are not lightly weighted, one inferno is 4K. Walls are very very high weight now. Definitely don't recommend any th9s maxing out walls. Heroes weigh more, but are weighed properly.
.5 doesn't work with one base. The main thing is, just don't be a fool and drop two infernos or xbows, when you haven't even upgraded one war troop,yet lol. Everyone wants to max defense asap. All that does is pull In tougher opponents that will still 2-3 star your base. Keep your offense ahead of your defense. That's all you need to do. Don't just upgraded defense every time you have enough gold. There is a point that it is just adding weight and not making your base much harder.
I went with the .9 approach, so it's a lot worse for people like me. Plus I can't necessarily give much on opinion since Im a TH X.9 and not a TH X.5.Quote:

This is the key to a well engineered base. I disagree they are weighed properly, heroes offer the largest offensive boost but impact defensive weight minimally. Yes, I'm sure their offensive weight is significant, but I'm also sure offensive weight doesn't significantly impact matchmaking. Simple formula: max heroes, ignore splash. And OP, yes x.5 is still intact.Quote:

Also now that walls are weighed much much much more, even if you don't upgrade defenses, your walls still do add a more significant amount of weight. IMO, once you get your offense fairly upgraded and have done all the elixir upgrades.. DE drills, Dark Barracks, storages and what not, just make your way up to TH9.
I followed the 8.5 path but for farming and it worked quite well. But I didn't take part in wars, so I can't help you much on that
You have to realise, what you draw in practice is based on what's available at the time. And if you look at playing trends, people tend to rush more than they max.
Most people can't be bothered waiting for the entire lab time at TH8 and/or hate being stuck boundless elixir while they grind out walls and DE for lab. Most people can't be bothered to grind out 1 Billion gold/elixir worth of walls and 4 million+ DE for heroes at TH9.
Once most people are done maxing defences at a TH, that for them is maxed, they will move on. Hence why you see so many defensively heavy but offensively weak TH9s and TH10s with weak heroes mostly complaining about matchmaking.
So statistically you will face more higher rushed bases than you would lower maxed THs.

It will keep your war weight lower than clan mates with Xbows so it does help with war. My experience is you will still face opponents that have a full TH9 war base.
