Alternative war types
I had a random thought earlier today at work and let my mind go to work. The idea is different war types. Instead of the typical "most stars wins", these would be special rule style wars. These could vary is a number of ways, but could include some of the following:
Reduced/no spells
No heroes or no abilities
Reduced walls (half, or minus a certain amount per TH level)
Double trap damage
Specific troop composition
Reduced time or bonus for speed attacks
Total destruction (stars are irrelevant)
3 team wars with each member allowed 3 attacks
Maybe offer these once a week so matchmaking wouldn't take forever. Have your clan "opt in" at least 2 days before the special war to avoid overlapping a current war and have them automatically start prep day in 4 or 6 hour increments on the set war date. This might be a terrible idea, I'm sure the forums will let me know. Feel free to add anything to my thoughts, as I'm just typing out loud.

Oh a war with a handicapped.
I remember playing a fighting game, streetfighter with a playmate and give myself 60 percent health just for the fun and challenge. ;)

Lol, nah. Some variety in war would be fun but keep it simple.

Stills needs some thinking to make sure it doesn't affect REGULAR wars badly in anyway.
Your idea of making once a week....... is good though.

The big 2 I think would be best and simplest are no spells and no heroes. The no heroes hits home for all of us. One wouldn't have to decide "am I in or out of war?" It's a nice way to learn different ways to attack while burning a few days off the upgrade time without being a handicap in war.
