improving max level units that are donated (clan perk)

so i really like the clan perk of donated units going up 1 level, and then 2 levels later on, it's really useful especially for low level players

the problem is when everything is maxed the perk becomes useless, max level units don't improve so it kind of feels like a bit of a ripoff

my idea is to have special max+1 and max+2 levels that would only apply to donated units, separate from the normal level progression so that whatever max+1/+2 is doesn't dictate what a new unit level would have to be in a future update

visual representation: no new models needed for max+ units, just an aura/glow around them to show what they are, also the level icon would be different colors for +1 and +2 with the actual number still being whatever the max level is

gameplay effect: instead of being a straight damage/health increase like a whole proper level, it would be a very mild buff or passive ability, slightly improved at max+2, and different for each unit

Barbarian: minor damage reduction against splash damage

Archer: slight attack range increase

Giant: defenses under attack from giants take a minor penalty to attack rate similar to the poison spell's effect on units (would not be cumulative from multiple giants)

Goblin: tiny amount of bonus loot taken from collectors, storages, and castles

Wallbreaker: this is the trickiest one to think about because wallbreakers are not normally donated. the running theme in all these buffs is that they make the units better in their role. i thought about it and the only way to improve the wallbreaker outside of a simple damage/health increase is to increase his probability of success. i've thought about outright invincibility, immunity to traps, immunity to splash damage, immunity to direct damage but not splash damage, invisibility to towers and only being effected by traps. The problem that comes up in my mind is the possibility of a new tactic (which is not the desired outcome of any of these they're only supposed to be mild improvements); a mass wallbreaker rush from a full clan castle. seems really op imo. this one will require some more thought.

Balloon: a fractional amount of splash damage in an area large enough to hit all buildings touching the target, maybe visualized as little cluster bomblets

Wizard: a magic shield that makes the wizard invincible, activates the first time a wizard would normally take damage and only lasts a few seconds, can only be used once per wizard (OR another way to phrase it is each wizard has the invincibility shield active from the beginning, and the first time the shield intercepts damage that triggers a countdown to make the shield go away a few seconds later, either way the effect is the same) does not protect against spring traps

Healer: small amount of temporary overheal (think medic from team fortress 2)

Dragon: buildings catch on fire taking a small amount of damage continuously, not cumulative with multiple dragons, continues for a few seconds if the dragon dies or stops attacking

PEKKA: minor damage reduction against all attacks except teslas

Minion: small chance that a direct attack against a minion will miss, does not apply to area attacks like wizard/sweeper or air mines

Hogrider: traps triggered by these hogriders will have a slight increase to the delay before going off

Valkyrie: small chance that direct attacks against the valkyrie when she is attacking will reflect off of her and damage nearby buildings instead

Golem: slight increase to damage against walls and a small splash effect against walls dealing damage to any building directly behind the wall (applies to golemites as well)

Witch: when the witch dies a number of skeletons appear in her place, separate from her normal maximum (max+1 death skeletons equal to her normal max, max+2 skeletons equal to 1.5x or 2x her max)

Lavahound: as the lavahound takes damage, it drops mildly damaging embers in a small area directly beneath it

one glaring problem that i've already thought of is that while all units are improved offensively, not all are improved defensively, but hey that's what discussions are for

another thing to keep in mind is that all of these buffs are meant to be very very mild, any percentage increase/decrease would have to be less than 10% possibly less than 5% so dont think this would mean golems are punching through walls with 2 hits or that barbarians would be immune to mortars

This is interesting. Requires lots of work from SC's side though. Obviously you e put some effort and you have some nice ideas as these stats of donated troops might change all the strategies as to which troop will worth carrying in clan castle. I am a bit concerned though if this would make some attacks OP.

things to consider if you're worried about things being overpowered

1: this would mostly be limited to the highest levels of play
2: availability is entirely dependent on what your clanmates have AND their generosity

another concern i've been mulling over in my head is clan war matchmaking, 2 clans that might be evenly matched based on what level towers/walls/units they have, but one clan may have a distinct tactical advantage by having the perk if the other clan doesn't have it as well, none of the other clan perks do this, which is why i stress the importance of the buffs being mild

Could be cool. A slight increase just in the CC is not going to make a poor player all of the sudden 3 star everything...

Yes, having been thinking this for some time. There should be some bonus for donating already maxed troops.


As an aside...

it is nice to be able to donate 6 or 8 troops instead, and to have to wait less time to re-request after the newcomer kid gave level 1 barbs, but the only real perks are the +1 and +2 to donation levels at levels 5 & 10.

Level 5 is good, it takes a bit of effort to get there.

Level 10, after what, two years? OK, fair enough for a massive advantage.


The loot bonuses, and CC loot capacity increases, who cares?

I agree with the basic idea that you should get something for donating a max level troop if you have the +1 or +2 perk, I like most of these, and would not object to some sort of system like this getting introduced. However, if you are too worried about a clan getting an "advantage" from these types of bonuses, make it something as simple as getting an additional 20% donation refund per level added. Example: If you donate a max unit and are in a level 10 clan you get a 90% donation refund, 50% for the perk, and 40% for the two level bonus. If you are in a level 10 clan and donate a level 4 hog, you get a 70% donation refund, 50% for the perk, 1 level added, then 1 level over max means an additional 20%.

The easiest way to do this would be to add another level to all troops
(barbarians to 8, dragons to 6, valkyries to 5 etc)

Then make them unlock at Laboratory 9

Since Laboratory 9 doesn't exist, no one can unlock them to build, but the game has a stat that it can use for those MAX+1 troops that you manage to get donated to you.

When they release Laboratoyr 9 then you can build them (or if they decide that TH11 doesn't need L8 barbarians they can move them to Laboratory 10)

consider that lower level town halls are already easily overwhelmed by higher town halls in wars, now consider these max+ troops being used defenisively in lower level clan castles as an equalizer against higher level players

TLDR all of it. I play RPGs so I already understand the idea. I think you are right on alot of things. As for if it is right for clash. It could be, it might not be. There would have to be alot of planning involve. I think it could work with the right minds working on it.

Over all I do agree that it needs to be addressed. When we finally get a clan level 10, they will prob have max level troops anyways. Not to mention that ALOT of clans are already donating max level troops in a clan level 5+

1. Clans at level 5 and above already (most likely) have maxed troops. At lower TH levels, these maxed troops are OP anyway so I doubt it'll change much! AND most higher level clans don't have TH6 or lower in wars.

2. This post by OP is to highlight the general idea. Not the exact things that SC has to implement. Let us leave the actual updates and balancing for this idea to SC (to avoid OPness). That said, it is worthwhile to discuss which one(s) of them are very obviously OP and CANNOT be balanced by SC in its present form in any way. We then must suggest an alternative to the OP feature.

3. This idea about adding a new troop level that cannot be trained in-game but only be donated is a good idea and MUCH more logical and advantageous for SC. Since they have to balance these features anyway, they might as well add new levels and work on balancing them. Then, if they ever add another troop level, they only have to balance one more level.

With the OP's idea, if they add another troop level, they will not only have to balance another troop level but also the upgrades to that new level you'd get when you donated.

So, overall, I think addition of a new troop level is a more realistic expectation (and less work for SC), but I'd like the OP's idea implemented since its funner.

I thought about this a little more and realized that this is a bad idea for the following reason:

The troop level upgrades allow lower TH levels to donate max level troops. In this way they can contribute to the clan and feel a sense of "pulling my own weight". TH8s can donate maxed balloons, hogs and wizards. TH9s can donate maxed golems, hounds, wizards and most other troops. If this was implemented, it would again put the guys with maxed out troops under burden of supplying troops and the lower TH levels wouldn't get the satisfaction of being able to donate troops to their clanmates. I hope I don't have to explain my logic behind this thinking. Every clan would want guys to attack in war with the best troops.

SuperCell are generally pretty practical though.

I don't really like it. Imagine your clan are 10 TH8 and you only have 10 members, if you go against to war against a clan with 10 TH8 at war but have 11 members, and one of the members is a TH10 with maxed troops, just the difference in that would be too much in a fair war.

You are seeing it as a maxed out base doesn't have perks at a LVL10 clan but in reality maxed out bases care more about the Lvl9 clan which adds you a 25% bonus to war and a 50% elixir back on donated troops. The Lvl10 clan is more for lower TH clans and to incentive them to constant war. When you look at it Higher TH get their perks first.

Exactly this. This idea would again shift the burden of donating exclusively to th TH10's in a clan. At least today the TH9's and some TH8's can also contribute.

This is just the normal advantage that a good clan has over a bad clan... not sure you need to worry about this.

It's like expecting a TH7 to be able to feel like they are contributing...

Feels like you're just listing things that could happen, and assuming that everyone will agree that they are a bad thing.
Really they're just a consequence of getting better troops...
(Remember too, it's the difference from L7 archers to L8 archers etc... which would probably be 5% stronger anyway given what other high level troop upgrades tend to give)

Yeah. In my opinion, it is perfectly good reason for it not to exist. Let me tell you, our main clan is level 7 and I could donate a LOT of stuff! Our feeder is was level 4 and people had to either make do with level 4 golems and level 2 hounds or had to go to our main to get maxed golems and hounds for war!

Now that we're level 5, it is MUCH better. This is one of the little things that don't seem much, outwardly, but they are actually VERY useful and convenient.

Case in point, till level 4, our war CCs were filled by TH9s and TH10s, so it was a big burden when approx. 10-12 hounds and golems were donated by 1-2 TH10s. Consequently, our war CCs weren't completely filled till late into prep day. Also most golem requests went to main and hogs/balloons requests weren't filled quickly since we had to either take TH8 level hogs/balloons or wait for some TH9 to come on.

Now, war CCs are filled in 2-3 hours max. Wiz, hogs, balloons requests are filled within 10-15 mins.

If we further upgraded max level troops, it would again bring back the problems of level 4 clans. I don't want it.

FINALLY, TH7s contributing isn't relevant since they won't be able to donate maxed troops (that clans want donated in CCs). TH8s CAN donate some max troops. If people cannot get more than maxed troops, then it allows TH8s to share some of the burden of clan donations (something which TH7s cannot do).

ALSO, I think that wanting to be able to contribute to your clan is very satisfying and nothing to sneeze at! (Even if you are a TH7) If you are able to donate the highest level of troops in the game, then others cannot give troops better than what you are giving. So you might as well donate those troops without the hesitation of thinking that the requester could have got better troops if you hadn't donated.

Its a very human thing to want to contribute. And being able to contribute EFFECTIVELY.

I don't really understand the first sentence here.

You're looking at only L7 to L8 archers/barbs/wiz. What about golems, hounds, balloons, hogs, witches, PEKKAs, giants? Their final level upgrades weren't just a 5% improvement (granted I didn't check stats for all of the above listed).

And either way, its still not desired (in my opinion). In war, you'd want to have the best chance to 3 star the opponent base. Most people, therefore, will definitely opt for over-maxed troops in their CCs. Its just the way it is. You yourself would want it (a golem for example, even though it could be just a 5% improvement).

And the enemy CC would most likely have over-maxed troops as well. So by not taking the over-maxed troops, you'd just handicap yourself.

I like your ideas and their creativity as well as your reasoning about how when your troops are maxed the perk is useless. Like what some people say imo the ideas are a bit too op for being a clan perk since in a clan war it would suck a bit being a level 1 clan facing another clan with troops with these buffs. So how about when your troops are maxed+1 they get 1% more health and maxed+2 they get 1% more attack, so that you at least get something for your hard work of making it to max troops and getting your clan to a high level, that isn't too game changing.

Yeah, we both just have different opinions.
I think it would be nicer to be able to have 'over-max' troops (a handy term, thank you)
At the moment it feels like I am paying the cost of building all maxed troops, but donating the same troop as a TH9.
I pay 4000 for a wizard to donate L6 wizards and a TH9 pays 3500 to donate L6 wizards.

I think the benefit outweighs the potential downside.

That's why it's helpful to have a forum, people see the benefits and downsides differently which helps judge whether an idea is good or not.
