Very simple.
Necro threads happen occasionally (perhaps deliberate perhaps from someone using search and finding it)
It's almost always an irrelevant thread now and the forum community put their Angry-Forum-Police hats on and post a "Don't resurrect dead threads" comment.
Why don't we just force closed any thread that's over 3 months old?
or hasn't had a comment in a month?
Problem solved.
The three months old idea is a bad one, because some ideas get popular and stay at the top of the list for months on end. The no comment idea could always be abused by the op commenting, or someone they know commenting. The system should stay as is.
You think mods have the time to close threads after three months?
PS: No 'Forum Police', simply making people aware of the rules does not make you the police.

How many three month old threads have any value? A tiny tiny fraction. So it wouldn't be a great deal of work to mark it as 'Retained" or "Do Not Close" or something.
And of those that are old and do hold value, how many of them have anything useful added to them anymore.
To be clear, I am perfectly happy to see negative feedback, but in this case your facts are just wrong.
Honestly, this is a bad idea UNLESS a manual option is needed. Many popular threads in this forum are not made as stickies yet and can be "force-closed" by the AI mechanism of this idea. The "manual option needed" I was talking about is the ability of the Moderators to mark those popular threads as "Unclosable" so that the Necro AI won't close those threads.
Hey there, don't call other people's opinions "rubbish", you're being rude to them that way. Don't call my opinion "rubbish" (or any negative comment) as it is simply my suggestion to tweak it. If the manual option can be implemented, then I'll vote on this +1.

That's not an opinion, that's an assertion of fact.
And it's not true. Other forum systems can do it. So I called it "rubbish", and I will continue to do so on the forum when people pretend they are experts on something.
I think the fraction of threads older than three months that hold any value now is so minuscule that it would not matter. Remember this isn't removal of those threads, just no ability to post to them again.
Let's face it even the most famous old thread of all, Mastermind's Quests barely has a useful post added to it anymore, it's all just pointless "I like this too" bumping.
