Cause lots of people saying it isn't worth it!

Things i will do before going th8.5:
All lv6 teslas
All maxed defenses
Upgrade lv8 walls up to 45 (20% of maximum walls)
All traps maxed

Things i may do before going th8.5:
Level 9 barbarian king
Level 3 pekka
Level 4 minions

Definately upgrade your king to level 10 first. Your gonna want to probaly concentrate on your archer queen at th9 for a while. Getting level 4 hogs is probaly a must for people who enjoy war, your gonna want level 5 hogs for wars at th9 so get the lvl 4 upgrade done now since it's expensive and quite a long upgrade time. And you should get lvl 3 pekkas for gowipe attacks. Other then those things if your a active farmer then go right ahead you can probaly catch up the rest.

you should get pekkas done, king to 10, hogs to 4 and golems to 2 before moving up also

I recently went 8.5 and have been upgrading elixer requiring things fast, but I don't know what to do with my gold. Can anyone help me?

Well im afraid to do walls because the new update said they count more in weight. Also is it safe to buy extra storages?

Are all your elixer pumps maxed. If there not then you can just go to one and hit upgrade and then cancel and do that over and over till your gold is at the point you would like. If there all already maxed then sorry but that obviously won't work for you.

Obviously I want to use the gold for a good purpose. I was mainly asking of its ok to upgrade traps and buy new ones .

I would totally buy the storeages and upgrade all traps (including buying any new traps - though not the tesla as I consider that a defense and not a trap).

And even though walls carry some weight, you still want to upgrade them.

That is if doing the true 8.5. Personally I went to full 9 as quickly as I could.

No not even close. You don't even have hog 4 and the only reason people go th8.5 is war related and you clearly gowipe or don't care so why even bother?

Yes you can. They are not weighed at all. Do your walls. When you hit queen 7 build all defenses but xbows and take them to th9. Your goal is Legos by 15/15 heros.
