Why is he weighted higher?

It seem that skull walls and purple walls not really much difference in war ranking weight but defenses are.
But for th9, weight of level 10 walls weight really ridiculous. I was once with 70 percent lava walls the rest lego walls with level 2 both xbow, all level 10 archer tower but one level 9, all mortar still level 6, all cannons still level 10 and overall heroes level 42 ranked higher than a maxed defenses th9 with half skull, half lego walls with overall heroes level 20, at that time.
But in your case, still hard to comprehend given your overall defense looks better than him.

He is weighted higher because of the xbows. The homebase is the basis of your war weight even if you haven't edited your warbase.

You tested what? using the gold in storages? If yes then this is not that accurate to show the effect of upgrading troops/heroes. I was in a war with someone being both maxed in everything except heroes and troops for me and I was ranked below. Troops/heroes do have weight but it is not as big as the defenses weight

Likewise, I've tested it. My mini has done almost a complete TH of offence upgrades without a single defence, not even a wall. Was ranked just above a max-TH8... is still ranked just above a max TH8 - meaning a max TH8 who adds a level 1 airdef will go above me

Heroes do make some difference though - the last "defence" I added on my mini was AQ upgrades and that did increase the gold weight. Once you are past level 5 though each you'll need quite a few levels to see much difference though, I think.

This is the reason, OP...imagine if one of the bases had all level 1 troops still, while the other has maxed for the TH. They would be relatively far apart on the map.

Yeah, the point I was trying to make is your war ranking will ultimately come down to your defensive structures. Troops, heroes & walls don't count for very much in respect to what they cost vs ranking points. Ie : I was ranked above my mate, we had very very similar bases. Same walls, heroes & defence buildings.(all defence were max).I had max minions he had lvl 5. That's 1 mil DE difference. He upgraded a seeking air mine & jumped ahead of me next war. 2 mil gold vs 1 mil DE. Troop vs trap.
