To the mods: This post contains a suggestion. I put it in general because it is a discussion topic and I want healthy debate and input on a game feature of which I add a suggestion at the end. If you think otherwise, please give me the benefit of the doubt for a couple days. Thank you.
The time limit is all too familiar and frustrating to just about every player in Clash. I've had several war attacks in which I had an excellent attack where I was very close to a wipe, but I was foiled by having my three minutes expire. Not that it matters that I had a minute left for cleanup, the loons or the hogs or the Wizards or what have you just can't run fast enough to get to the last building or two. I'm going to outline the pros and cons of the time limit so everyone can see both sides of the issue.
Pros:
- allow replays to be saved for a little while by reducing file size
- make it so that trolls cannot keep a player offline by "filibustering" an attack
- keeps war attacks sensitive to an efficient deployment and foresighted troop use
Cons:
- denies competent attacks wipes and provides for much too many heartbreaking 99% attacks
- limits ingenious attack strategies with 3 minutes
There are obviously both pros and cons with significant merit. The pros balance the cons too much to allow for the doing away of the time limit. However, I am of the opinion that 3 minutes is really too short for the way game balance has evolved. It's like the expansion of the grassy clearing where your base was located when new town hall levels were introduced-- there's really too much content for 3 minutes to hold the same purpose it did 2 years ago. I can prove it-- an attack can generally be judged to be a wipe or not around the 1.5-2 minute mark, not the 3 minute mark. This means that 3 minutes does not discriminate against bad attackers that can't wipe, instead it does so against good attackers who earned a wipe but won't get one. I can say off the top of my head that about 5% of attacks in a competent clan war are timed out near wipes-- that number should be something like 1% or lower. I propose extending the time limit to 3.5 minutes or 4 minutes, like in Boom Beach. I think that is a reasonable suggestion for the points aforementioned.
Closing remarks: If I have earned a wipe, I want that wipe. It's like predatory loans-- people have the opportunity but are denied it because of something they could not see at the beginning. Anyone can avoid a predatory loan but few actually do. I've seen more 99%s than close 100%s. On the flip side, if an enemy has all but wiped my base or a clanmate's base, I want to call GG and let them have the stars. I respect a good attack. I don't propose an extension or some sort of change to a very much outdated system that hasn't been messed around with since the origin of the game for my own benefit-- when I speak here, I speak for the good of all. Moderators, move this thread to suggestions if you will, but for the love of all things good and gracious let it remain in general for a couple days so it may be seen.
